Lewis pips Mercer
Tyson beats Bruno again
Tyson regains a portion of the heavyweight crown after destroying WBC title-holder Frank Bruno in three rounds.

Bruno appears predictably apprehensive before the fight and barely lands a worthwhile punch. His performance is more credible than that of WBA champion Bruce Seldon, who loses to Tyson in a round after falling from a glancing left hook.

Once again hailed as an invincible fighting machine, Tyson signs to fight the ageing Evander Holyfield, but in an upset as big as the Douglas defeat, the champion is battered over 11 one-sided rounds.

Lewis fights just once a ten round points win over American Ray Mercer. Nominated as the mandatory challenger for the title, Lewis accepts 4m from Tyson to step aside and instead line up a fight against former conqueror Oliver McCall.

Did you know?
Before he upset Lewis, McCall was more famous for his work as Tyson's chief sparring partner. Legend has it that McCall frequently got the better of his employer.
