Lewis sees off Bruno
While Tyson serves his sentence, Lewis tries to further his claim as the world’s best heavyweight.

His first defence of the title is an underwhelming points win over faded ex-champion Tony Tucker. But he is more disappointing in a ‘Battle of Britain’ contest against Frank Bruno.

Lewis is outboxed for the majority of seven rounds, before landing a big left hook which renders Bruno an immobile force against the ropes. Despite the win, doubts are raised over Lewis’ technique and the tactics of his trainer, American Pepe Correa.
