Lewis v Tyson

Lewis raises his arms in celebration after a heavyweight bout against Al Malcolm 1986 Mike Tyson weighs in for a title fight

By Sanjeev Shetty, BBC Sport Online

 AUDIO CHOICE
Tyson stops Frank Bruno
Millions of Britons stay up till the early hours of the morning as Frank Bruno challenges Tyson for the undisputed heavyweight title.

Floored in the opening 15 seconds, Bruno gets up and stuns the champion with a solid left hook. Despite that, Tyson overcomes his sluggishness to stop Bruno in five rounds.

By now, the New York native is divorced from Givens.

He follows the Bruno fight with a first round knockout of top contender Carl Williams. Another potential blockbuster is lined up, with Tyson scheduled to fight Evander Holyfield in June 1990.

Lewis’ professional career gets underway, although he receives plenty of criticism for his choice of opponents.

Did you know?
Neither Lewis nor Tyson threaten as much after the halfway stage. Lewis has one knockout after the seventh round, a similar record to Tyson, who has not gone the distance since 1991.
