Colin Jackson captures the world record
men's final :: Stuttgart 1993
If there's one criticism that can be levelled at Colin, it's that he can sometimes succumb to pressure in the big races. But this was his hour, a race when he proved beyond doubt that he is one of the greatest sprint hurdlers the world has ever seen.

Powering out of the blocks, he was first to the first hurdle and continued with wonderful fluency. His trademark early dip for the line clocked him 12.91secs - beating American Roger Kingdom's four-year-old world record by one one-hundredth of a second.

It was a great day for Britain - Tony Jarrett knocked a huge 0.13s off his personal best to take the silver, and the British pair celebrated by hugging joyously as the times came up on the scoreboard.

The final marked the beginning of a wonderful run of form for Jackson. From 29 August 1993 to 9 February 1995, he was unbeaten in 44 consecutive indoor and outdoor races.

Six years later in Seville, Jackson was to take the world title for a second time.
