Handball player Mark Hawkins is confident that breaking his hand will not affect his chances of selection for the Great Britain Olympic squad.

The 25-year-old played both of Team GB's World Cup qualifiers last month but sustained the injury on domestic duty in Iceland.

He told BBC Sussex: "It's been frustrating but it's come at one of the better times it could have for me.

"I'm pretty confident it will be a short recovery time."

The left winger added: "There's always a concern as injuries can come at any time. Nobody wants to get injured for an event like the Olympics.

"I'm trying to stay fit and be ready to go away with the national team in January.

"If I had not been fit, someone else could come in and take my place.

"Hopefully I'll stay out of trouble for the next six or seven months and give myself a good springboard into the Olympics."
