Daniel Purvis wins 2011 World Cup series after taking bronze in the Tokyo Cup

Great Britain's Daniel Purvis has won the 2011 World Cup series after taking bronze in the Tokyo Cup.

Purvis, 21, scored 89.631 to finish third across the six events, with home favourite Kohei Uchimura claiming gold with 93.565 and Germany's Philip Boy second with 90.098.

Purvis scored highest on the floor, with 15.4 and also scored above 15 on the rings and vault.

He beat Ukraine's Mykola Kuksenkov, who was fifth, to the World Cup crown.

Purvis, who won bronze in the all-around at the European Championships in Berlin in April, narrowly missed a surprise medal in October when he finished fourth in the men's all-around at the World Gymnastics Championships.

He also won bronze on the floor in the 2010 European and World Championships, and was a member of the Great Britain team that won 2010 European silver.
