Channel Island champion Aimee Ponte aims for more golf titles
Guernsey's teenage Channel Island golf champion Aimee Ponte says she is aiming to break the record for island titles.
The 16-year-old retained the CI crown after an 11 and 10 win over Jersey's Virginia Austin-Walker to add to her three Guernsey crowns.
"I want to win it a few more times to compete with Veronica Bougourd's record of 17 island titles," Ponte said.
Jersey's Matthew Parkman took the men's title, beating Guernsey champion Garry McFarlane four and three.
But Ponte says there needs to be more young players taking up the sport in the island, with 12-year-old CI bronze division champion Stephanie Ballay identified by the Guernsey golfer as her only young rival.
"Steph's coming up but that's about all there is.
"We have a good field of ladies and Channel Island golf is strong for ladies," Ponte told BBC Guernsey.
Ponte is now focusing on the South of England regional championships at the beginning of next month.
