Perez aims for title with McLaren
Sergio Perez wants McLaren to fight for Formula 1 title
New McLaren signing Sergio Perez says his ambition is to fight for the Formula 1 championship in his debut season.
The Mexican, recruited to replace Mercedes-bound Lewis Hamilton, joins after two seasons with Sauber.
"Hopefully we can have a very strong car and fight for the championship. That has to be the target," Perez said.
Perez, 22, said it would not be easy to replace Hamilton but admitted he would have to be competitive from the start.

"I don't feel the pressure but obviously you have to deliver here in McLaren," said Perez, who will get his first taste of the 2013 McLaren at the first pre-season test in Jerez, Spain from 5-8 February, ahead of the start of the season in Australia on 17 March.
"You are coming here to deliver results, to win championships. This is the target when you come to McLaren, the best team in F1, you have to really deliver the results."
Perez pledged to "do my very best, give my very best to McLaren".
And he added that he expected no problems working with team-mate Jenson Button.
"I think we will work very well together for the team but obviously the target is to beat him and all the others. But I think myself with Jenson, we are a very good team."
Perez was talking on his first day working for McLaren at the team's base in Woking, Surrey, where he arrived at the wheel of one of the company's open-top sportscars.
He compared his feelings to those of making his F1 debut with Sauber two years ago.
"It's similar in terms of emotion," said Perez, who is 23 later this month. "It's something new for you but this is a lot bigger."

@196,197 etc. - Glad you have been entertained & would not disagree with most of what you say. However what is the forum about if not how F1 fans, with differing perspectives, view events and present these events as evidence to support their argument.
You are right, there is no room for personal insult and Ifs & buts are pointless however we all have a view & a little passion does add spice!

@195 Chris
Thank goodness somebody else can see it!
It is fantasy F1 for kids - my dad is bigger than your dad, nah nah.
The results are what they are and there is no way to uncrash, undo a bad pit stop, unmake a poor tyre choice, unbreak an alternator/gearbox/hydraulic pump or unmake it rain.
The past cannot be changed, move on FCOL!

I agree the comparison is meaningless, but I enjoy the way the two camps twist and present facts to shine the most favourable light on their chosen hero. eg driver X scored the most 5th places in the third quarter of 2009 and this clearly shows their superiority over driver y. Best of all are the woulda shoulda coulda posts as you can manufacture pretty much any scenario you like. Keep it up

@194, now thats just wild speculation. If we're playing that game then I reckon Button would have won in Korea had he not of retired. lol no chance of that.
I pray that Perez destroys Button next year and wipe that smug little smirk of his face. What was it he said on the team radio after AUS, oh yeah, 'its just like 2009 all over again'. Sorry Jenson didn't quite work out for ou did it.

Please stop with this infantile LH JB comparison, it's totally meaningless. I am a JB fan but would be the first to admit LH is in a lot of respects the better driver. But face it people he has left and comparing old results is completely irrelevant. It's next years results that count.
