Driver profile: Max Chilton
Max Chilton is Britain's fourth driver on the Formula 1 grid in 2013.
Still only 21, Chilton is from a racing family and has risen quickly through the ranks, with the help of a substantial family income.
Chilton's stats and facts
- Team: Marussia
- Team-mate: Jules Bianchi
- Previous teams: none
- Born: 21/04/91, Reigate, Surrey
- Nationality: English
Unusually, his first steps in senior motorsport were straight into Formula Three, after a couple of seasons in the T Cars series for 14 to 17-year-olds.
Through three seasons in GP2 he progressed to the point that he won two races on his way to fourth in the championship in 2012. In a one-off appearance in free practice at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, he was a respectable one second off team-mate Timo Glock.
Chilton clearly has talent, but the learning curve will be steep.
