Shrewsbury Town: Akpa Akpro signs following Tranmere exit

Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has taken his tally of summer signings to 11 by bringing in striker Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro following his release by Tranmere Rovers.

The 29-year-old Frenchman has scored 30 goals in six seasons with Grimsby Town, Rochdale and Tranmere.

He failed to find the net on loan with Bury for the second half of last term.

"After meeting the manager, I had a good feeling and decided to come here," Akpa Akpro said of his latest move.

Keepers: Mark Halstead, Jayson Leutwiler, Callum Burton, Harry Lewis

Defenders: Dom Smith, Nat Knight-Percival, Mark Ellis, Mickey Demetriou, Jermaine Grandison, Ryan Woods

Midfielders: James Wesolowski, Dave McAllister, Aaron Wildig

Wingers: James Caton, Ashley Vincent

Strikers: James Collins, Scott on, Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro

"I could see he wanted me and he knew how he wanted to use me.

"My strength is attacking but in a team you have to defend, so I will try to bring everything to the team."

Akpa Akpro started his career in 2003 with home town club Toulouse where he spent four years before moving to Belgian side FC Brussels for a season before Grimsby brought him to England.

Mellon has now more than doubled the size of his squad since taking charge a month ago.

Having inherited just eight players, since when he has lost midfielder Jon Taylor to Peterborough United, he signed winger Ashley Vincent and defenders Mickey Demetriou, Mark Ellis and Nat Knight-Percival.

He then made his first raid on his native Scotland to bring back striker James Collins from Hibernian o the club, before making the double signing of another forward, Scott Vernon from Aberdeen, and Blackpool winger James Caton.

Mellon also signed former Middlesbrough keeper Jayson Leutwiler, and Blackpool keeper Mark Halstead, along with Oldham midfielder James Wesolowski.
