That's it folks for Saturday's European football live text offering. We move over to Italy on Sunday for Serie A's Parma v Napoli.

  2. 21:03:
    Real Sociedad 0-4 Real Madrid

Maybe Gareth Bale will become a Champions League winner in his first season. His team hold a 3-0 advantage over Dortmund going into this week's second leg.

They then host Almeria at home next Saturday at 21:00 BST. That match follows Granada v Barcelona at 19:00 BST.

Leaders Atletico are at Getafe at 18:00 on Sunday.

    The top three:

Atletico 79 pts from 32 games

Barcelona 78 pts from 32 games

Real Madrid 76 pts from 32 games

    Tight isn't it?

Jody in Aberdeen: How about Paul Lambert? Champions League winner with Dortmund?

  4. 20:55:
    Real Sociedad 0-4 Real Madrid

Did you enjoy that? I must admit the first 45 minutes weren't great. I expected more from Sociedad today, but credit to Madrid's central midfield who did not give the home attack much space after the break.

And then there was Bale's goal. You pays your £85m and you get a finish worthy or that price tag. Scored by a man with a hole in his knee (see earlier entry).

It'll be interesting to see if he plays a part in this week's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Borussia Dortmund. His thigh was heavily strapped after he came off late in the match.

Zakir Hossain: Everytime CR7 was not playing a game Bale stood up to the task. Not to mention that money well spent!

Giles Brown: John Charles without a doubt is the best British export. Juve have a statue of the guy!

  6. 20:50:
FULL-TIME- Real Sociedad 0-4 Real Madrid
  7. 20:49:
    Real Sociedad 0-4 Real Madrid

I never thought this would be the scoreline, at half-time. Huge credit to Gareth Bale, whose superb goal broke Sociedad.

  8. 20:45:
GOAL- Real Sociedad 0-4 Real Madrid - Alvaro Morata (88 mins)

One of my favourite players scores Los Blancos's fourth. Angel Di Maria threads a lovely pass through to Alvaro Morata, who runs on to the ball and slides his shot under Claudio Bravo.

  9. 20:44:
SUBSTITUTION- Real Sociedad 0-3 Real Madrid

Golazo scorer Gareth Bale is replaced by Alvaro Morata. The Welshman's thigh gets heavy strapping - it was his knee that was damaged in an earlier injury.

  10. 20:41:
GOAL- Real Sociedad 0-3 Real Madrid - Pepe (85 mins)

Great corner. Great nod back into the six-yard area from Sergio Ramos. Nice volleyed finish from Pepe. That is that.

  11. 20:40:
CLOSE!- Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid

Dani Carvajal makes a great block to deny Sociedad's Antoine Greizmann before the Frenchman forces keeper Diego Lopez to dive down low at his near post to keep out a drilled effort.

  12. 20:38:
SUBSTITUTION- Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid

Isco is replaced by Angel Di Maria, who has had a stomach bug and lost more than 2kg. He needs a good feed by the looks of it.

  13. 20:35:
    Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid

... but Madrid's Pepe clears under the pressure. Good defending by the Portugal international.

  14. 20:35:
    Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid

Sociedad have 13 minutes to salvage something from this - they have a corner...

Chibuzo C. Ejike: Bale? Not yet. There's Kevin Keegan, Mark Hughes. But Bale can be it.

Chris Graley: Whilst Becks & Bale have been great exports to Madrid, Laurie Cunningham deserves a big mention. Trailblazer.

  17. 20:30:
SUBSTITUTION- Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid

Sociedad central midfielder Ruben Pardo comes on for Mikel Gonzalez.

  18. 20:29:
    Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid
Lee Majors as the Six Million Dollar Man

Gareth Bale is running far more freely now. He's like a modern day Colonel Steve Austin.

  19. 20:23:
GOAL- Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid - Gareth Bale (66 mins)
    Gareth Bale celebrates scoring

Huge mistake by Claudio Bravo but an exceptional finish by Gareth Bale, who you recall has been hobbling after he picked up a hole in his knee. As you do.

The Sociedad keeper appeared to try to find one of his player's with a placed kick, but instead found Bale, who from out on the left drilled in his effort from 25 yards. Excellent opportunism.

  20. 20:22:
HITS THE BAR!- Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid

Madrid's France striker Karim Benzema launches a cracker from 22 yards that comes off the crossbar.

  22. 20:18:
    Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid

Gareth Bale has a hole in his knee. He seemed to catch Markel Bergara's stud as he landed on the turf after being sandwiched by two players. The knee is bleeding now. I think he might need more than a plaster. He hobbles back on though.

  23. 20:15:
    Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid

Real go close again as Xabi Alonso curls a free-kick from the left that Claudio Bravo does well to push away low to his left. Nice of Gareth Bale to give the ex-Liverpool man a go.

  24. 20:13:
    Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid

Gareth Bale's powerful curling shot from 12 yards almost knocks the head off Gorka Elustondo. It didn't. The tough midfielder marches on.

  25. 20:10:
    Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid

Gareth Bale's header into the turf goes wide of Sociedad's right-hand post. Close-ish.

  26. 20:09:
    Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid seem to be stepping it up now. They have another corner.

David Alsatian: What about Paul Lambert and John Collins?

Charlie Gill: Bale is definitely the most exciting, not necessarily the best.

  29. 20:05:
HITS THE BAR- Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid

That was almost the perfect start for Madrid. Sergio Ramos's header crashes against the bar from Xabi Alonso's free-kick. It's still shaking.

  30. 20:02:
KICK-OFF- Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid

    We are back under way.

UnSimpleSimon: Wait a little bit longer. Defoe will be making a claim to be one of the best British exports.

Is Gareth Bale the best British football export?

  33. 19:57:
AS THINGS STAND- Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid

It'll be back to as you were when it comes to the gap between the top three in La Liga.

Atletico Madrid have 79 points following their win over Villarreal.

Barcelona have 78 points after beating Real Betis.

And Real Madrid will have 76 if they defeat Real Sociedad.

It's going down to the last set of fixtures isn't it? Atletico play Barca on the final day, in case you didn't know.

Mark Onyango Ojuok: A bit too early to judge Bale, Mark Hughes for me is top of the lot.

Robert Smith: Kevin Keegan picking up consecutive Ballon d'Or awards for Hamburg has to be one of the best British exports.

  35. 19:49:
HALF-TIME- Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid

And that is half-time. Talk about timing.

  36. 19:46:
GOAL- Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid - Asier Illarramendi (45 mins)
    Asier Illarramendi

One minute he was blocking a goalscoring chance for the Sociedad and at the other end he pokes in against his old side. Karim Benzema cuts inside and launches a fierce low drive that Claudio Bravo could only push into the path of deep-lying midfielder Asier Illarramendi.

  37. 19:45:
    Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

Action at Anoeta. A free-kick is launched into the Madrid area. Antoine Griezmann's turn and half-volley is blocked by the chest of Asier Illarramendi.

  39. 19:40:
YELLOW CARD- Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

Madrid's Xabi Alonso goes into the book for clattering into Carlos Vela. I thought Alejandro Jose Hernandez Hernandez was a little harsh in booking him. Yes the referee has two Hernandezs in his name.

Is Gareth Bale British football's greatest export?

  41. 19:34:
    Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

It's all turned a little messy with both sides conceding fouls in midfield. So far only Sociedad's Antoine Griezmann has had a decent legal effort on goal.

  42. 19:29:
    Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

That was awful Gareth - it didn't clear the wall. We gave him the big build-up and that's how he treats us...

  43. 19:27:
    Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

Gareth Bale tries to run between two defenders but is pushed over. Free-kick - within Bale range. Yikes!

Sadozaie: Ronaldo is world class but Messi is way ahead of him. Difficult to take but its true!!

  45. 19:23:
CLOSE!- Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

He's good that Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman heads over from eight yards following a good left-wing cross from partner-in-crime Carlos Vela.

  46. 19:22:
    Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

Real Madrid have another corner. This is slightly better from Carlo Ancelotti's side. Remember they are without Cristiano Ronaldo tonight. However, it is once again cleared easily.

  47. 19:20:
SUBSTITUTION- Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

Left-back Jose Angel is off having picked up a knock earlier and on comes Jon Ansotegi to replace him. Ansotegi goes to centre-back.

  48. 19:17:
WHAT. A. SAVE.- Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

OK it was offside in the end. Diego Lopez produces a superb point-blank to deny Carlos Vela at the far post.

  49. 19:13:
    Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

The corner is cleared comfortably by Sociedad - the home side haven't been troubled by the men in orange so far.

  50. 19:12:
    Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid
Luka Modric (right) vies with Real Sociedad's midfielder Markel Bergara

Real Madrid have a corner - it's been quite a while since they've been in Sociedad's final third.

  51. 19:10:
    Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

Another great block by Sergio Ramos, this time to prevent Jose Angel's shot inside the area from troubling Diego Lopez.

  52. 19:05:
GOOD BLOCK!- Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

Great defending by Madrid defender Sergio Ramos to block Carlos Vela's 12-yard strike from the angle. It's all Sociedad at the moment.

  53. 19:02:
    Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

There is a cracking atmosphere at the Anoeta.

Gareth Bale, who has scored 12 goals in the league this season, has started out on the right. Isco is on the left, while Karim Benzema is in the middle.

  54. 19:01:
KICK-OFF- Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

    We are off.

  55. 18:58:
LINE-UPS- Real Sociedad v Real Madrid (19:00 BST)

Real Sociedad XI: Bravo, C.Martinez, Mikel, Elustondo, Markel, Inigo, Griezmann, Vela, Canales, Zurutuza, Jose Angel

Real Madrid XI: Diego Lopez, Pepe, Ramos, Benzema, Bale, Xabi Alonso, Carvajal, Nacho, Modric, Isco, Illarramendi

  56. 18:55:
Real Sociedad v Real Madrid (19:00 BST)

Real Madrid's attacking midfielder Isco starts in place of Angel Di Maria, who is ill.

Forward Cristiano Ronaldo has a knee injury so Welshman Gareth Bale moves into his position, while Asier Illarramendi, Luka Modric and Xabi Alonso make up the central midfield.

Sociedad do not name striker Imanol Agirretxe in their first XI, with Mexico's Carlos Vela leading the attack.

  57. 18:52:

The team news is coming up, but first tell me about the other key matches in the Spanish title race.

Atletico Madrid opened the day with a 1-0 victory over Villarreal thanks to Raul Garcia's strike, before Barcelona responded with a 3-1 win over Real Betis.

Atletico still hold a one-point lead over the Catalans with six games remaining.

So, it's up to Real now - they cannot afford to slip up again.

  58. 18:49:
    Gareth Bale

Here's a simple question for you: Is Gareth Bale British football's best export?

The £85m world record signing made a slow start to his Real career, no thanks to injuries, but has still managed to score 12 goals and provide 12 assists in La Liga this season. Remarkable.

He also scored his fifth Champions League goal in eight appearances for the Madrid side, against Dortmund on Wednesday.

We've had David Beckham, Ian Rush, Mark Hughes, Gary Lineker, Steve McManaman, Kevin Keegan and, if we go back a few years, John Charles to have all plied their trade outside the UK.

Is Bale at the top of that list?

    Glenn Frey

If I was in charge of the music at the Anoeta Stadium I'd consider playing Glenn Frey's 1984 hit The Heat In On for today's visitors Real Madrid. Not because they're fans of the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack, but because this is a huge month for Los Blancos.

Real made a good start to it with 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

They have a Copa del Rey final appointment with Barcelona on 16 April, and today they play arguably the toughest of their final seven league fixtures, without Cristiano Ronaldo.

Stay here for all the action.
