Raja Casablanca target Champions League glory
Raja Casablanca winger Zemmama Meroune believes his team are in a good position to win the Champions League.
The Moroccans, who reached the Club World Cup final in December, began their campaign with an 8-1 aggregate thrashing of Diamond Stars.
"We have a great team and a good manager, I think we can win it," said Meroune, who scored in his side's 2-1 second leg victory on Saturday.
"It will be hard for us but I think we have the team to do it."
Raja are still on a high after their superb run to the Club World Cup final at the end of last year, where they lost 2-0 in the final to European and German champions Bayern Munich.
And they have made a flying start to their campaign to lift the Champions League trophy for a fourth time - following wins in 1989, 1997 and 1999 - with a comprehensive success in the preliminary round.
Leading 6-0 from the first leg against Sierra Leone side Diamond Stars, it was a formality that Raja would complete the job on Saturday in the return.
While the margin of victory was much smaller, Meroune feels it increased his side's self-belief ahead of next tie against Guinea club Horoya.
"It was good to win away from home. It gives us a lot of motivation and enthusiasm for the next round.
"The fans who have followed us have been very good for us. We have won the competition before and with all the motivation we have, from the board to the fans, I think we can do it again.
"Raja Casablanca is the greatest club in Africa. I don't see why we can't do it."
