Will Hughes: Gareth Southgate says Derby man right to stay a Ram

England Under-21 manager Gareth Southgate tells BBC East Midlands Today that highly-rated Derby County midfielder Will Hughes is in the right place to learn his trade and should not rush to leave.

The 18-year-old is a regular for the Rams and has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League but Southgate believes playing consistently at Championship level for a manager with Steve McClaren's pedigree is good for his development.

Hughes is one of several players from the region who could figure when the England side take on Wales in an Under-21 European Championship qualifier  at Derby's iPro Stadium on 5 March.

As well as Hughes, Southgate can also call on Derby's Patrick Bamford and Andre Wisdom, Leicester City defender Liam Moore and Nottingham Forest centre-half Jamaal Lascelles.
