Everton 2-1 Aston Villa: Villa excellent despite defeat - Lambert

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert says he could not fault his players for effort, despite his team losing 2-1 to Everton at Goodison Park.

Villa were leading going into the closing stages of the match thanks to Leandro Bacuna's first-half goal, but Steven Naismith levelled before Kevin Mirallas struck a superb 25-yard free-kick with five minutes remaining to send the visitors to a defeat.

After the match Lambert said he did not want to make excuse for the defeat, but said Wednesday's 4-3 win over West Brom had been a "gruelling" match to recover from.
