Boxer Curtis Woodhouse takes over as Goole boss

Professional boxer Curtis Woodhouse has taken over as the manager of Goole.

Former Mansfield and Lincoln boss David Holdsworth left the Northern Premier League First Division South club after Saturday's 3-0 home loss to Coalville.

The game was marred by an incident that saw defender Karl Colley attempt to punch a Coalville fan after being sent off - the club subsequently sacked him.

Woodhouse, who had been Holdsworth's assistant, previously had a short spell as Sheffield FC boss.

The 33-year-old said on Twitter:  "I would just like to confirm that I have accepted the position of manager at Goole AFC - looking forward to the challenge."

The former Sheffield United and Birmingham City midfielder is set for the last fight of his boxing career when he takes on Darren Hamilton for the British light-welterweight title on 22 February.
