Anton Forrester's strike ensured Bury secured a vital three points against fellow strugglers Wycombe Wanderers.
Forrester finished off a swift counter-attack to claim the only goal which allowed his side to leapfrog Wycombe into 20th place.
Chances were restricted but Forrester had a late effort to seal it blocked.
While Bury are now two points clear of the drop, Wanderers find themselves above 23rd-placed Torquay on goal difference alone.

Bury manager David Flitcroft told BBC Radio Manchester:
"Some of our play was brilliant, apart from the cutting edge.
"Once we got the goal, we tried protecting it a little bit and then it became a football fight.
"The short-term goal is to win matches this season, but with the chairman's vision and the detail and the obsession that I've got - we try to play the game right and build for next season as well."
