Garry O'Connor agrees short-term deal at Morton

Scotland striker Garry O'Connor has agreed a deal with Morton until the end of the season, though the Greenock club is still awaiting international clearance to complete the move.

The 30-year-old last played for Russian side Tom Tomsk more than a year ago.

O'Connor, capped 16 times, has had two spells at Hibernian and also turned out for Lokomotiv Moscow and Birmingham.

If clearance is received, he could make his Morton debut when Raith Rovers visit Cappielow on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Craig Reid, Stephen Stirling, and Jake Nicholson are all leaving the Championship outfit. The trio are out of contract this month and have not been offered new terms.

On Friday, Morton completed deals for David Robertson and Jamie McCormack.

Midfielder Robertson, 27, was released this week by St Johnstone, who he joined from Dundee United, while 21-year-old defender McCormack had been let go by Wigan Athletic.

The additions followed the capture of free agent defender Darren Cole and loan signing of forward Barrie McKay from Rangers.

Forward Nacho Novo and defender Mark McLaughlin were released by the club shortly after Kenny Shiels took over as manager, with McLaughlin joining Dumbarton and subsequently playing against the Greenock side on Saturday.

Dumbarton's 2-0 win over the Greenock outfit leaves Shiels' side nine points adrift of Cowdenbeath at the foot of the Championship.
