Peter MacDonald's double gave Dundee a win over Dumbarton to keep them top of the Scottish Championship.

MacDonald got the opener minutes after half-time when he latched onto Jim McAlister's pass before firing into the bottom-left corner.

Kevin McBride added a second, hammering in from 12 yards after being found by Gary Irvine.

And MacDonald rounded off the scoring in the final minute with his first-time, left-foot shot.

It is now two wins on the trot for John Brown's men after stumbling versus Cowdenbeath a fortnight ago, and they sit two points clear of Hamilton Accies at the summit.

Meanwhile, Dumbarton boss Ian Murray will be keen to improve on the recent form which has seen them lose three of their last four Championship matches.

The Sons' best chance at Dens Park came in the 22nd minute but Bryan Prunty's header was smothered by Kyle Letheren.

Dundee always looked dangerous and visiting goalkeeper Jamie Ewings had to be alert to deny McBride in the second half.
