Tottenham appointing Andre Villas-Boas was a gamble - Gary Lineker

Former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker says the Spurs owners should take "massive responsibility" for what has happened at the club because appointing Andre Villas-Boas was always a "gamble".

Tottenham sacked manager Villas-Boas on Monday after their 5-0 home defeat by Liverpool. Former Spurs player Tim Sherwood was then appointed caretaker boss before their League Cup exit to West Ham.

The Match of the Day presenter thinks Sherwood has a "great footballing mind" and understands the game well, but backs Glenn Hoddle as a full-time replacement for Villas-Boas.

Watch Match of the Day on BBC One this Saturday from 22:20 GMT.
