  1. 2237:

Right, that's a wrap then. Europa League o'clock tomorrow, big weekend of Premier League action and then the Champions League draw on Monday.

Forget the Christmas shopping - football all the way. See you later.

  2. 2234:
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris WaddleBarcelona 6-1 Celtic

"Celtic were eliminated early and had nothing to play for. They couldn't get into the Europa League. Barcelona are a fantastic team but it' s disappointing for Neil Lennon all the same. They're playing at a level that they're not used to. They've played against a team who are on a different planet."

  3. 2229:

Arsene Wenger has just joked that his side may as well fly straight to Manchester tonight. They face Manchester City at 1245 GMT on Saturday. Wenger not happy with the early kick-off...

  4. 2223:

Having seen that second foul again, Mikel Arteta was very unlucky to be sent-off. There was minimal contact to be honest, but he will now miss the first leg of the last -16 tie.

  5. 2221:
    MANAGER REACTION- Napoli 2-0 Arsenal
    Mikel Arteta

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger on Mikel Arteta's red card: "He's absolutely convinced that he didn't make a foul and it was very harsh but he already had a yellow card. It's always difficult in the middle of the park. I felt it was a very harsh second yellow card."

Laurence Chaffey: Haha wow! The worst teams that Arsenal or City could play are better than the best teams United or Chelsea could play.

Michael Kennedy: On current form United or Chelsea wouldn't have qualified from Arsenal's group. Arsenal were written off when the group was drawn.

Adeniran Olawale: Why is everybody saying Arsenal are doomed? Napoli had to go for it. Arsenal knew they had gone through so they relaxed.

  7. 2220:
    MANAGER REACTION- Barcelona 6-1 Celtic
    Neil Lennon

Celtic manager Neil Lennon: "Barcelona were fantastic as we expected them to be but we were very poor. There was no bravery on the ball and it looked like our heads went down at 2-0.

"We were weak and that is something I have to address.

"There were only three players who really showed anything - Mikael Lustig, Virgil Van Dijk and Adam Matthews. I'd excuse the goalkeeper as well.

"There were a lot of half-hearted performances out there and that was the most disappointing aspect. I'm angry and disappointed but it's something we need to get over quickly. We are better than that."

  8. 2217:
    MANAGER REACTION- Napoli 2-0 Arsenal

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: "The most difficult is when you are in between, do we attack or defend? As long as we didn't score, they had hope. Maybe what helped was that Dortmund were drawing 1-1 and maybe they put the handbrake on, that's why we didn't get too much pressure in the end."

    Text us on 81111

Tristan, via text: So Zenit win one once and qualify. Galatasary get a -6 GD and qualify. Napoli get 12 points and get knocked out?

Vince in London, via text: What's all the fuss about? Arsenal now can't face Drogba in the last 16. I'm happy.

Adam in Manchester, via text: We just got through a tough group with Dortmund and Napoli in it, when most people doubted we could even do it at the start of the season - I wouldn't count us out yet!

  10. 2216:
    MANAGER REACTION- Napoli 2-0 Arsenal

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: "We are happy to be through because it was very difficult. We took it very seriously but in the second half we dropped physically a lot, we had a game on Sunday. Naples played very well tonight but we were a little bit on edge for some minutes, it was nervous in the end, but we got through."

    Text us on 81111

Paul via text: Credit Arsenal getting out of that group BUT how they surrendered the top spot when in control for most of it is a blow.

Will in Leicester, via text: Does this mean if Leicester beat Man City next week we are better than Bayern Munich?

Tom in Manchester, via text: I think both Pellegrini and Wenger will be praying for a last 16 draw against PSG or Atletico Madrid. They seem the weakest out of the lot!

  12. 2212:
    Barcelona 6-1 Celtic

Spanish football writer Andy West at the Nou Camp: "Barcelona have won 18 of their 24 competitive fixtures so far this season, drawing four and losing just two. They have won the Super Cup, won their Champions League group and are sitting atop La Liga. Yet last week sections of the Spanish media were determinedly insisting there was a crisis at the Nou Camp and that new boss Tata Martino doesn't know what he's doing. And you think the British press is fickle?"

Harshad Pathak: Hoping that @chelseafc draw @GalatasaraySK in Champions League only to see #Drogba play at Stamford Bridge again.

Joe Reid: Arsenal should have played a stronger team tonight and now they're going to regret it.

Kamran Sheikh: Well it was obvious, Arsenal were going to slip up in the end. Just a shame it had to be now.

  16. 2209:
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris Waddle

"I think out of the four English teams, Manchester City have the best chance of winning the trophy. I think they'll get a lot of confidence from winning away at Bayern Munich last night."

Richard Powell: With this being Arsenal's best chance of winning The Premier League for years, would an early exit from Europe really be catastrophic?

Lukas Shajko: Chelsea need to avoid Zenit St Petersburg because with them competing for the Premier League a long trip to Russia will hurt.

Kasun Munasinghe: People are forgetting how people were saying that Arsenal had no chance in that group when it was drawn. Credit to them.

Andrew Harvey: Whatever happens there will be some excellent matches in the last 16! Imagine Arsenal v Real Madrid and Man City v Barcelona!!

Kavit Garda: Arsenal will face either PSG, Athletico, Real, Barca, Bayern. Wenger surely is going to regret this. Should have topped the group.

Jordan: We'd have to face the Barca's, Madrid's and Bayern's later in the competition so why not in the next round. Bring it on.

  21. 2159:
MANAGER REACTION- Chelsea 1-0 Steaua Bucharest

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho speaking to Sky Sports: "Normally we have to score more goals and win comfortably and give more emotions for the supporters, but we had the game always under control.

"We had the chances and the dominance and pressed very well, but the second goal did not arrive and the opponents is then always alive.

"Every time we played short and fast finding Eden, Willian and Oscar, we had creation speed and intensity, but we did not have enough patience and went back to things from the old days sometimes.

"Now we forget the Champions League until 2014."

James Willson: Napoli go out with 12 points. Zenit qualify with a pathetic 6 points. Mental.

Samson Olapade: The usual story of Arsenal, played well but lost. Compare this to Man United who played badly but won. Arsenal lack the mentality of winners, will exit the UCL and at best end up in 3rd or 4th position in the league. Arsene Wenger needs to step aside for a more aggressive, trophy-hungry coach. Otherwise, Arsenal will continue to be a laughing stock.

  23. 2154:

I'm already looking forward to the last 16 now. That slip-up has really cost Arsenal!

    What's their best bet? PSG?

Alternatively, life looks reasonably sweet for Chelsea and Manchester United, who probably want to face Olympiakos...

John Mack: If anything highlights the woeful quality of Scottish football, it's tonight's result. Celtic, unbeaten in the league, lose 6-1 to a team missing their best player. Nothing more to be said.

Russell Shaw: Celtic play in a league that we would call the Conference.

Claudio via text: So proud of Napoli. We threw the kitchen sink at two of the best teams in Europe. Out with 12 points will go down in history. Will we hear 'do a Napoli' from now on?

Magnus from Glasgow, via text: So Arsenal will play one of Chelsea, United, either Madrid team, Barcelona, PSG or Bayern Munich. A lot has changed this year, but they still make things as difficult for themselves don't they?

Dan in Malvern, via text: To be honest, there are no easy draws in the last 16, sure there are favourable ones but no easy ones. As someone said earlier you have to beat the best to win this contest so going through second in a group isn't that much of a poisoned chalice for Arsenal.

  26. 2151:
    PLAYER REACTION- Napoli 2-0 Arsenal
    Per Merteascker

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker speaking to Sky Sports: "We were always on the back foot, we took a little break today I think but we will be back on Saturday. It's always the same, you give 10% less mentally because we knew we were through."

Milan progress with group winners Barcelona.

Elsewhere Zenit St Petersburg qualify from Group G despite losing 4-1 to Austria Vienna.Porto's 2-0 defeat to group winners Atletico Madrid ensured the Russians progress.

  33. 2143:
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris WaddleNapoli 2-0 Arsenal

"Napoli looked a different side in the second-half when they took off Goran Pandev for Lorenzo Insigne and moved Jose Callejon forward. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be very annoyed because I thought his team were excellent in the first-half. You thought they'd go on and win the game but they seemed to come right off the pace. They looked tired and ragged."

    Napoli celebrate Gonzalo Higuain's goal

What a last 10 minutes in the Champions League! Napoli gave it their all but they were undone by events in Marseille, ultimately. How important will Arsenal's failure to win the group prove to be?

  35. 2140:
    Group F

Here's the final Group F table then. The mathematical poser we started the night with came true, all teams finished on 12 points! Dortmund go top on goals scored.

  42. 2134:
    Napoli 1-0 Arsenal

It's all gone quiet in Naples as news of that Dortmund goal trickles around the stands. Moments, moments away from qualification and now they are heading out...

  43. 2132:
GOAL- Marseille 1-2 Dortmund - Kevin Grosskreutz (87 mins)

Massive goal for Borussia Dortmund! And Arsenal! And Napoli!

Moments from going out, Dortmund are now topping the group. Napoli are out as it stands...

  44. 2131:
DISALLOWED GOAL- Chelsea 1-0 Steaua Bucharest

Chelsea are still toiling and creating without actually making an impression on the scoreboard. Demba Ba almost gets on the end of a low cross before a Steaua defender stretches out a leg to block. The Senegal striker then hammers into the top corner from Frank Lampard's pass only to see the offside flag raised. Into added time.

  45. 2130:
GOAL- Barcelona 6-1 Celtic - Giorgos Samaras (89 mins)

Giorgos Samaras scores! A header from Charlie Mulgrew's inswinging free-kick.

Richard Powell: It could be argued that the best bit of business Tottenham did in August was missing out on Willian. Taking a while to settle.

William Jameson: Chelsea just lack that killer instinct, Hazard takes too many touches, Mikel looks clueless in the final third. Frustrating.

Russell Moore: RE: 2114, Virgil van Dijk?? Is that Dick van Dyke's cousin from Tracey Island? No wonder it's 6-0..

  48. 2128:

AC Milan may have weathered the storm as they enter the last 10 minutes still goalless with Ajax.

The 10 men of Milan have been up against it for long periods but Ajax look as though their spirit is flagging as they are struggling to break the Italians down.

An Ajax win would send Milan out, otherwise the Italians progress with Barcelona.

  49. 2127:
    Marseille 1-1 Dortmund

Marseille have been down to 10 men for most of the evening but are withstanding a barrage...

Arsenal are on course to win Group F, with Napoli joining them in the last 16. Dortmund would be OUT.

Chelsea are winning Group E, with Schalke also going through. Basel are heading out.

  52. 2124:

Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski: 0:1, but still 15 minutes left! COME ON AFC!

  54. 2122:
    Napoli 1-0 Arsenal

It was a great individual goal from Gonzalo Higuain - that's why he's a £40m striker. Big game, big goal. Arsenal don't need to panic though, as it stands they are safe as houses - and winning the group.

  55. 2121:
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris WaddleNapoli 1-0 Arsenal - Gonzalo Higuain

  58. 2119:
RED CARD- Napoli 1-0 Arsenal - Mikel Arteta

Now then! This could make the last 15 minutes very interesting! Mikel Arteta is sent off for a second yellow card, a nibble on Jose Callejon. Not much in it but he's off.

Don't forget, a 3-0 win for Napoli could see Arsenal out.

Adam Gill in London, via text: It's ridiculous that just 3 days after such a high pressure, high energy match, Arsenal have to then go to the Etihad. Going to be exhausted!

  60. 2118:

As it stands then, Borussia Dortmund are going out. Napoli are heading through along with Arsenal.

A goal for Dortmund in Marseille will change everything though...

  61. 2117:
GOAL- Napoli 1-0 Arsenal - Gonzalo Higuain

There it is! It had been coming and it's a fine goal by Gonzalo Higuain, who swivels on a sixpence inside the penalty area and fires in left-footed. Low and hard. What does that mean...?

  62. 2117:
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris WaddleNapoli 0-0 Arsenal

"I was surprised Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey didn't start even though we knew he had a slight injury. He's been a massive player for them this season. The Gunners have definitely come off the pace. Napoli are playing some good football with a lot more urgency than in the first-half."

Rosie Dodds: Great text from Ollie in Oxford on the #bbcfootball. Hear Hear. Can't wait to watch Oxford United on Saturday.

  64. 2114:
GOAL- Barcelona 6-0 Celtic - Cristian Tello (72 mins)

Six! Celtic pulled hither and thither by Barcelona, a cross from the left finds Cristian Tello and he fires in, the ball taking a huge deflection off the shoulder of Virgil van Dijk on its way in.

  65. 2114:

Borussia Dortmund are currently heading into the last 16 of the Champions League, drawing 1-1 at Marseille.

Things are far from sorted in Group F though as a Napoli win at Arsenal, where it is 0-0, would see last season's finalists exit the competition if they fail to win.

  66. 2113:
    CLOSE!- Napoli 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal have kept Gonzalo Higuain pretty quiet tonight but he is played in by a neat pass around the corner and gets a shot away, it's a tight angle though and he's closed down well, the Argentine can only fire over the top.

  67. 2113:
    Barcelona 5-0 Celtic

European football writer Andy West in Barcelona: "Nobody's talking about Neymar not scoring anymore. By my reckoning, that third goal makes him Barcelona's first non-Lionel Messi Champions League hat-trick scorer since Samuel Eto'o got a treble against Panathinaikos in November 2005. I still think Messi will manage to get back in the team when he returns to fitness though..."

Opta Joe: 10 - Neymar's hat-trick was the tenth scored by a Brazilian in Champions League history; the most of all nations. Samba.

  69. 2111:
    CLOSE!- Chelsea 1-0 Steaua Bucharest

That is a chance - and it's fine play by Chelsea substitute Andre Schurrle. The German receives the ball by the corner flag on the left wing, he beats one man for pace, another with a trick and when keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu can only shovel his cross back into the danger zone, a stretching Eden hazard can't keep the ball down and heads over the top!

  70. 2110:
    SUBSTITUTION- Napoli 0-0 Arsenal

Chris Waddle calls it. Change for Arsenal as Aaron Ramsey replaces Santi Cazorla- just over 20 minutes to go.

  71. 2109:
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris WaddleNapoli 0-0 Arsenal

"I think Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger should freshen things up now. Napoli have upped the tempo. They've been playing some good football since they've changed their system. Arsenal look a bit leggy. A few of the players in red shirts are struggling to keep up with the pace of the game."

Listen to all the action from Napoli versus Arsenal with full match commentary on BBC Radio 5 live and online.

  72. 2108:

Ajax are piling the pressure on at the San Siro as 10-man AC Milan cling on to a place in the Champions League last 16 by their fingertips.

The Dutch side are pouring forward in search of the win that would see them qualify from Group H with Barcelona. It's currently 0-0 which is good enough for Milan.

  73. 2106:
    CLOSE!- Napoli 0-0 Arsenal

As we enter the final half hour the hosts have noticeably stepped it up a notch. Jose Callejon finds a yard of space on the right wing and hits an early shot across the bows. Wojciech Szczesny is able to watch it go harmlessly wide.

  74. 2105:

Are Arsenal genuine contenders? And why have Celtic struggled in Europe after relative success last season?

Nico Jones: Regarding Mikel, am I meant to believe that Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant, Luiz Felipe Scolari and Roberto Di Matteo, amongst others, with numerous leagues, Champions Leagues, cups and even a World Cup, and a combined 200 years in football between them know less than guys who spend their matches writing to the BBC website from their armchairs?

  76. 2104:
Julian Draxler celebrates scoring for Schalke

In Group E, Schalke leapfrog Basel into second spot, after two goals in the space of seven second-half minutes gives them a 2-0 lead. Julian Draxler opened the scoring before Joel Matip doubles the lead.

Basel, who are down to 10 men, only need a draw to qualify but are up against it now.

  80. 2100:
    GOAL- Barcelona 5-0 Celtic - Neymar HAT-TRICK (58 mins)

Just brilliant stuff from Neymar! We may see some of this at the World Cup next summer as the Brazil forward terrorises the Celtic defence, a drop of the shoulder and a shimmy inside before popping a nutmeg through the legs of Efe Ambrose and then curling into the bottom corner. Wonderful, wonderful feet.

  81. 2059:
    Napoli 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal put together a sensational, flowing counter-attack which starts with a deft touch from Tomas Rosicky in the middle and sees Mesut Ozil and Kieran Gibbs combine down the left. It is worked into the area, Mathieu Flamini steps over the ball but Olivier Giroud is crowded out. Superb movement throughout that midfield.

Brad Remus: With all the attacking talent in front of him, wouldn't Lampard be far better served to stop the useless long shots, and pass?

Amin Elhassan: #Mikel is a great football but only when he plays for #Nigeria. He is terrible for @chelseafc

Henry: Nice to see the 'young' keeper Mark Schwarzer get his Champions League debut tonight.

  83. 2057:
    Chelsea 1-0 Steaua Bucharest

Not much sign of movement on that Chelsea bench as we tick past the 55-minute mark. After their recent defensive troubles I imagine that Jose Mourinho will be happy with a clean sheet.

  84. 2055:

Zenit St Petersburg now trail Austria Vienna 3-1, with Tomas Jun and Philipp Hosiner giving the Austrians the lead.

Zenit should qualify from Group G though with Porto, who need victory, trailing Atletico Madrid 2-0.

  85. 2055:
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris WaddleNapoli 0-0 Arsenal

"I've never seen Mathieu Flamini get forward so much. He's supporting Olivier Giroud as a second striker. Arsenal have started the second-half just as they finished the first. They're confident and passing the ball around."

  86. 2054:
    Napoli 0-0 Arsenal

Mesut Ozil slams a shot well wide from 25 yards as Arsenal continue to look comfortable. Destination: Last 16 at the minute for the Gunners.

  87. 2052:
    CLOSE!- Chelsea 1-0 Steaua Bucharest

Ashley Cole is caught by a flying boot and goes down in some pain but is able to continue. In front of him, Eden Hazard has been tricky and he starts a lovely move, weaving across the field and finding Willian on the right, he pings the cross back into the six-yard box and Demba Ba lashes it over the top. Terrible finish!

    Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Mustafa Alkhaddar: The most important signing Wenger made wasn't Ozil, but Flamini..he's shored up that midfield and given them some bite.

Grant Cameron: A second-placed Arsenal would play either Barcelona, Atletico, PSG, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. They MUST finish top.

Sean Barman: This Napoli team have been very disappointing considering all the money they spent.

  89. 2050:
GOAL- Barcelona 4-0 Celtic - Neymar (48 mins)
    Neymar celebrates scoring for Barcelona

Neymar's second Champions League goal doesn't take long to arrive. He collects Xavi's pass and slams a rising left-footed drive into the top corner from 20 yards. Wonderful finish and this could get very ugly for Celtic.

Dave Sansom: John Obi Mikel is honestly the worst player I've seen in a Chelsea jersey in my 27 years. I'd personally drive him to the airport if I heard he was on the way out.

Luke Branislav Horgan: Mikel gives away possession too easily. He turns like a rusty gate!

Back under way at the Bridge. So far, so good for the Blues.

  93. 2045:
    Napoli 0-0 Arsenal
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger (left) and Napoli boss Rafael Benitez

Napoli haven't kept a single clean sheet over their last 12 games in the Champions League and Europa League. It's at the other end that they need to step it up though. Don't forget, a 3-0 win for the Neapolitans would put them through.

Warren Larter: Arsenal are giving Napoli a footballing lesson!

Yasir Ali Khan: The Arsenal game needs a bit of pace. Maybe bringing on Ramsey, Wilshere and Walcott will help.

  95. 2042:
    Napoli 0-0 Arsenal

I forgot to mention there, just before half-time Wojciech Szczesny had 'a moment'. He hesitated as he tried to clear a backpass and only managed to chip the ball up and straight to Gonzalo Higuain. If he had been able to control it, he would have scored. Classic Szczesny.

  96. 2041:

It is half time in all of the Champions League matches. Group G winners Atletico Madrid are leading Porto 2-0, while Austria Vienna have levelled at home to Zenit St Petersburg, with Philipp Hosiner making it 1-1.

As it stands, Zenit progress with the Spaniards with Porto needing to win to stand any chance of qualification.

Group H is less cut and dried with 10-man AC Milan and Ajax goalless. The Dutchmen need to win to qualify with group winners Barcelona, while a draw is enough for AC Milan.

There will be a few nerves at the San Siro.

    MARVELLOUS MATHIEU- Napoli 0-0 Arsenal
    Mathieu Flamini

Simon in Lincoln will be pleased to see that Mathieu Flamini has been getting well and truly stuck in, as his touch graphic suggests. The Frenchman has been playing a little further forwards than usual this evening.

Simon in Lincoln, via text: Flamini, What a player, What a signing by Wenger. He always gives 100%. Constantly presses the opposition, always talking, always getting stuck in.

Adam in Darlington, via text: Unusual but Carzola has been a tad poor tonight; losing the ball too many times. On the plus side, Koscielny and Mertesacker have been rock solid. Arsenal doing the job that needs to be done.

Ian in Seville, via text: Going back several months I groaned aloud when Arsenal's group was drawn. Now with only 45 mins left it is still wide open. It is imperative to win the group. There are some seriously strong group winners there. Stress.

  100. 2037:
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris WaddleNapoli 0-0 Arsenal

"Arsenal are streets ahead of Napoli in terms of quality. They've been in control of the game and they've had a couple of chances. Napoli are too anxious and impatient. They need to start playing football if they're to get the goals they need. Manager Rafael Benitez needs to settle them down at half-time."

    BA-VELLOUS- Chelsea 1-0 Steaua Bucharest

That goal has now been given to Chelsea's Demba Ba. He got the last touch to flick in after Oscar had headed across goal.

  102. 2036:
    Barcelona 3-0 Celtic

European football writer Andy West at Barcelona v Celtic: "Neymar finally got the goal he needed (see 1928 and 1912) and he deserved it after an excellent all-round first-half performance, including a wonderful assist for Pedro's second goal. And his celebration was one of relief - he obviously didn't want to head into the knockout stages with people still asking when he would score his first Champions League goal."

  103. 2034:

Should the scores stay as they are, Arsenal will win Group F, with Borussia Dortmund joining them in the last 16.

  108. 2031:
GOAL- Barcelona 3-0 Celtic - Neymar (45 mins)

A classic Barca goal. Alexis Sanchez flicks a dinked pass over the top to Martin Montoya on the overlap, he pulls it back past Fraser Forster's dive and Neymar has a tap-in for his first Champions League goal.

  109. 2031:
    HALF-TIME- Chelsea 1-0 Steaua Bucharest
  110. 2030:
    Napoli 0-0 Arsenal

Chris Waddle's not wrong, it's getting a bit niggly in Napoli. Laurent Koscielny is tripped after a long run forwards before Mathieu Flamini is also decked.

  111. 2029:
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris WaddleNapoli 0-0 Arsenal

"The crowd are getting very, very frustrated with Napoli. They're playing into Arsenal's hands. Their centre-halves can't seem to pass or tackle and the players in front of them are persistently fouling. Arsenal have dominated the game barring Christian Maggio's chance."

Porto look to be heading out of the Champions League as they fall 2-0 behind at Group G winners Atletico Madrid.

Diego Costa adds to Raul Garcia's opener, with Porto's Josue having missed a penalty in between the two goals.

A Porto defeat or draw guarantees Zenit St Petersburg's progress whatever their result at Austria Vienna, where they currently lead 1-0 thanks to Alexandr Kerzhakov.

Group G looks to be all but sorted.

  113. 2026:
GOAL- Barcelona 2-0 Celtic - Pedro (39 mins)

Lovely stuff. Neymar is too good for Efe Ambrose, beating him for pace and trickery before pulling the ball back to Pedro who hammers in on his 50th Champions League appearance.

  114. 2025:
    CLOSE!- Napoli 0-0 Arsenal

The Arsenal defence suddenly looks very lopsided as one pass frees overlapping right-back Christian Maggio. He bursts into the box but Wojciech Szczesny comes flying out, death or glory, and Maggio clips the ball over him but also over the bar. Good opening though.

  117. 2024:
ACROBATIC EFFORT- Chelsea 1-0 Steaua Bucharest

Frank Lampard drills a trademark 25-yarder over the top as Chelsea push forwards. A second goal would just ease the mood a tad.

Another Chelsea corner causes havoc in the Steaua box, Demba Ba misses his header and then attempts an overhead kick but clatters keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu in the neck. Chelsea have looked like scoring with every corner so far.

  118. 2021:
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Chris WaddleNapoli 0-0 Arsenal

    Barcelona 1-0 Celtic

Spanish football writer Andy West at the Nou Camp: "It's extremely comfortable for Barcelona, with Sergio Busquets particularly imperious in midfield. Their ability to pass the ball has never been in doubt but they need more penetration to match their overwhelming dominance of possession. Fraser Forster hasn't been forced into a meaningful save since the goal and, considering their total control of the game, Barca should be creating more chances."

  123. 2016:

AC Milan's task has just got a lot harder with Riccardo Montolivo sent off for a late tackle after just 22 minutes, with the score 0-0 against Ajax.

Ajax need to win to qualify from Group H, while a draw is enough to see Milan through.

Porto are in real danger of heading out in Group G after going 1-0 behind at group winners Atletico Madrid, thanks to Raul Garcia.

Zenit St Petersburg will qualify in second place with victory over Austria Vienna, but anything other than a Porto win will also see the Russians through. Zenit are drawing 0-0.

GREAT SAVE!- Chelsea 1-0 Steaua Bucharest

What a stop this is! Again Chelsea look a threat from a corner as Eden Hazard collects a short one, looks up and fires in a cross which Branislav Ivanovic flicks on, only for Steaua keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu to turn it over. Great reflexes there.

  128. 2012:
BBC Scotland's senior football reporter Alasdair Lamont in BarcelonaBarcelona 1-0 Celtic

"Comparing the start of this match to Celtic's last visit here, Neil Lennon's men are offering less of a threat to the Barcelona defence. They simply can't keep possession for more than a few seconds, while Barca look like they have a point to prove to some of their critics following recent defeats by Ajax and Athletic Bilbao."

  129. 2010:
    CLOSE!- Napoli 0-0 Arsenal

Best move of the match by Arsenal as Mathieu Flamini threads a delicious pass into the run of Olivier Giroud, he doesn't mess about, lashing in a left-footed shot which Napoli's stand-in keeper Rafael beats clear. If Aaron Ramsey was playing he would probably have snaffled the loose ball. But he isn't. So he didn't.

  130. 2010:

The Neapolitans line up a beautifully worked free-kick as Dries Mertens lofts a disguised chip over the wall which totally flummoxes the Arsenal backline. Jose Callejon is in if he can control it - but he can't. A real centre-half's touch. A centre-half from the United Counties League as well.

    CLOSE!- Napoli 0-0 Arsenal

Napoli carve Arsenal open for the first time, Dries Mertens picking out Goran Pandev with a slick pass over the top, the forward gets a low shot off but it's easily held by Wojciech Szczesny. Jose Mourinho said the other day that his side are so bad at defending set-pieces even the dummies they use for a wall are scoring goals. Conceding six goals at Sunderland and then Stoke is fairly remarkable for a Chelsea side under Jose.

Anyway, here come the players, Jose looks in decent enough spirits as he bounces through the tunnel.

Barcelona's Neymar leads the attack against Celtic in the absence of Lionel Messi, who will not be available until after Christmas.

Coach Tato Martino says he is not concerned about his lack of goals although the Brazilian has scored only four in total this season and none in Europe.

"For a striker it is not just about goals but also how they play in the team and Neymar has all the facets to do well. He has the right attitude and the goals are going to come," he said.

Barcelona need a point to finish top of Group H after they lost at Ajax in their last match, while Celtic will finish bottom.

Barcelona: Pinto, Montoya, Mascherano, Pique, Adriano, Sergi Roberto, Busquets, Xavi, Alexis, Neymar, Pedro. Subs: Oier, Puyol, Iniesta, Song, Jordi Alba, Tello, Dongou.

Celtic: Forster, Lustig, Ambrose, van Dijk, Matthews, Brown, Biton, Ledley, Boerrigter, Pukki, Samaras. Subs: Zaluska, Stokes, Commons, Balde, Mulgrew, Atajic, Fisher.

    Referee: Sergei Karasev (Russia)

  177. 1918:
    Napoli v Arsenal (1945 GMT)

The biggest test for Arsenal tonight may be their own mentality. Do they go out not trying to lose 3-0? Play for a point? Or go for the win?

With Dries Mertens, Goran Pandev and Jose Callejon supporting Gonzalo Higuain, Napoli can cause plenty of trouble on the counter attack.

Infostrada Sports: Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer is the oldest #UCL debutant at 41 years, 66 days and the 2nd oldest player ever in the Champions League.

  179. 1914:
Chelsea v Steaua Bucharest (1945 GMT)

Chelsea's bench today sees Petr Cech sit alongside Ramires, Fernando Torres, Juan Mata, Andre Schurrle, Kevin de Bruyne and Gary Cahill.

It does not get much stronger than that.

  180. 1913:

Until we know the full list of 16 qualifiers - and which teams topped their groups - we won't know which teams are likely to be drawn against each other in Monday's draw.

But we do know this: Teams who win their group - like Manchester United - will play a team who finish second in their group - like Olympiakos.

However, teams cannot face another side from their own country, or a side that was in their group. So there can be no Manchester derby in the last 16, and Manchester City will also be pleased to know that they cannot face Bayern Munich.

Paul Moore: Ashley Cole is still one of the best left backs in world football. If Chelsea don't want him there will be plenty of takers.

Rian Hoskins: Glad Schwarzer and Cole start but I would have rested Ivanovic, Terry and Hazard as they really need a rest.

  182. 1912:
    Barcelona v Celtic (1945 GMT)
    Barcelona v Celtic

European football writer Andy West at the Nou Camp: "Barca only need a point to win the group but they're under heavy pressure to deliver a convincing performance as well. They were lambasted for poor displays in recent defeats against Ajax and Athletic Bilbao, with manager Tata Martino facing by far the strongest criticism of his short reign. And Neymar could do with a goal - the Brazilian hasn't broken his Champions League duck yet despite starting every game, and plenty of media stories have been reminding him about that."

Emmanuel Dominic: Chelsea will definitely top their group.

Kaba Konate: It's going to be a great match indeed but Arsenal will remain top by defeating Napoli 2-1.

Christopher Uche Uwaonu: Chelsea are through. The big match tonight is in Naples. The first litmus test for Arsene and Arsenal.

    Jurgen Klopp

Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp insists there will be no complacency as the Bundesliga side travel to Marseille knowing a victory will guarantee their qualification in Group F.

Marseille have yet to pick up a point in the Champions League this season but Klopp believes the French side will bow out of the competition fighting.

He said: "We know that Marseille is going to fight in this game. We can say however, that Marseille is not usually the last one in the group. They've played good matches at European level."

Krishna Kumar: I hope Arsene knows the importance of topping the group. In recent seasons, the runner-up spot has proved costly for us.

Sledgey: Dortmund will fail to win and go out. Napoli to beat the Arsenal 1-0 so they both go through.

Josh Pain: Title contenders Juventus and Napoli to be knocked out of CL at group stage?! AC Milan who are 9th qualify?! Madness.

Jason in Belfast, via text: Took a night off from studying for a maths final after Christmas to watch the football and then you hit me with that doozy. Thanks guys, thanks a lot.

Mr M Pellegrini in Manchester: Still trying to calculate it. Can I have a bit more time please?

Laurence Woburn Sands, via text: I hate predicting things where Arsenal are involved but Napoli are missing Reina and Hamsik plus more or less a full squad for Arsenal. Surely they won't lose by 3 goals!

  188. 1903:
    Napoli v Arsenal (1945 GMT)

Arsenal fans, would you sacrifice Mesut Ozil for Gonzalo Higuain?

The Argentine striker was high on Arsene Wenger's shopping list in the summer but eventually made the move to Napoli instead, with the Gunners using the dosh to buy Ozil on deadline day.

How will the big number nine get on against the Gunners tonight?

  189. 1901:
AC Milan v Ajax (1945 GMT)
    AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli

AC Milan may be having a season to forget in Serie A but striker Mario Balotelli has to be happy with his form so far this campaign, with 10 goals in 17 appearances.

The former Manchester City man starts up front for the Rossoneri, who will be hoping the Italian can link up with Kaka to help eliminate Ajax in Group H.

  190. 1858:
    Paul Pogba

Hammam's tweet there is a timely reminder for an update on Juventus.

You may recall that we lost a game last night when Galatsaray's match with Juventus fell victim to the Istanbul snow.

Well, the match resumed this afternoon and a late, late goal from former Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder was enough to see the Turkish side through to the last 16.

Juventus couldn't believe it. A big gun gone from the competition...

Nathaniel A: The maths for tonight's game is significantly harder than my fourth year medicine exams.

Francesca: If only I could have questions like this on my maths exam this Friday. It'd be tough but worth it. Hoping for Napoli to qualify

Hammam Ayoub: Dortmund and Arsenal to go through I think. But we know what happened to Juventus earlier so I won't be surprised if Napoli go.

Opta Sports: 2 - Borussia Dortmund have only scored twice in their 8 European games played in France. Rare.

  193. 1855:

If there's one manager I would back to know every single permutation, coefficient points, goal difference and head-to-head record it would be Arsene Wenger. He'll be clued up...

  194. 1854:
    Napoli v Arsenal (1945 GMT)
    Arsene Wenger

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: "We have some players who have little muscular problems, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere a little bit, and they have played a lot as well so they have been rested, but not with the Manchester City [game on Saturday] in mind.

"I was thinking about Theo Walcott starting but we are not very much in the need to take a gamble but he is one of the first I will think of if there is a need to score.

"We are a team than likes to go forward and to not do that would be very dangerous for us. We have done our job until now and we want to finish the job. The Champions League is always difficult to get over the line so that's why we need to be highly focussed tonight."

  195. 1852:
AC Milan v Ajax (1945 GMT)

AC Milan are bidding to put their dismal Serie A form behind them by gaining qualification for the Champions League last 16 at the expense of visitors Ajax.

A point is enough for Massimiliano's Allegri's men, who currently sit ninth in Serie A, 22 points behind leaders Juventus and 14 adrift of the first Champions League qualifying spot.

Ajax kept themselves in contention with a surprise 2-1 win over Barcelona last month but need to beat AC Milan to progress out of Group H with Barcelona.

The Dutch side go into the game in decent form, having beaten NAC Breda 4-0 last time out.

Ryan Smith: #Galatasaray qualify with 7 points...and #Arsenal or #Napoli could be in the Europa League with 12 points. Crazy.

Tunde Akere: In all these calculations, Dortmund may be on the safest side because they are playing the weakest team in Marseille.

Riz Zabar: Cannot see Arsenal losing 3-0 tonight. Comfortable win for them and Dortmund to lose tonight.

Ankur Goyal: Win & top the group. Simple maths. COYG

  197. 1849:

In Group E, Schalke and Basel are in the hunt to qualify alongside Chelsea. Basel can top the group if they collect more points tonight than Chelsea do; while Schalke can still top the group if they beat Basel this evening and Chelsea lose to Steaua.

Atletico Madrid have already won Group G, and Zenit St Petersburg will join them in the last 16 if they beat Austria Vienna. Porto can qualify, but they need to beat Atletico in Madrid and also hope that Zenit do not win.

Barcelona have qualified from Group H, but need a point from tonight's clash with Celtic to secure top spot. Below them, it comes down to a face-off in Milan between AC and Ajax for the other spot.

A draw is enough for Milan, while Ajax need a win to go through.

Opta Joe: 41 - Mark Schwarzer will become the third oldest player to play in the Champions League tonight (Ballotta, Nioplias). Veteran.

  199. 1846:
Alasdair Lamont, BBC Scotland's senior football reporter Alasdair Lamont in BarcelonaBarcelona v Celtic (1945 GMT)

"For the second time in just over a year Celtic are in the Catalan capital to face Barcelona, only this time it's a dead rubber for the Scottish champions, who can no longer qualify for the latter stages of European competition. No Lionel Messi for Barca because of injury, but Xavi and Andres Iniesta are back to full fitness and Neymar is expected to play through the middle for the home side. Celtic manager Neil Lennon just wants to bow out from the competition with a bit of pride and a good, competitive performance."

  200. 1846:
    Napoli v Arsenal (1945 GMT)

Arsenal make two changes, with Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini coming in to the midfield, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey having the night off. They start on the bench.

Napoli are without on-loan Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who has a thigh injury.

Napoli XI: Rafael; Maggio, Fernandez, Albiol, Armero; Dzemaili, Behrami; Callejón, Pandev, Mertens; Higuain

Arsenal XI: Szczesny, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Flamini, Arteta, Rosicky, Cazorla, Ozil, Giroud

So has everyone got the abacus out? Worried about Arsenal's chances? Will they cruise it? Can Jurgen Klopp do it again for Dortmund?

Has Ashley Cole got a long-term future at Chelsea?

If - and this is a long shot - you've got any maths exam anecdotes, tonight is the night to give them an airing as well...

  202. 1840:
    Barcelona v Celtic (1945 GMT)

Unfortunately Celtic are destined to finish bottom of Group H no matter what happens this evening, but there is nothing dead rubber about facing Barcelona. Ever.

  203. 1839:
Chelsea v Steaua Bucharest (1945 GMT)

Over in Group E, it's all a bit more straightforward for Chelsea and Jose Mourinho.

The Blues have already qualified for the last 16, and a win tonight would ensure that they finish on top of the group.

If they do not win, then Basel can win the group if they better Chelsea's result tonight. Basel head to Schalke.

  204. 1838:
Chelsea v Steaua Bucharest (1945 GMT)

As expected, Ashley Cole returns to the Chelsea line-up while there is a Champions League debut in goal for former Fulham and Boro man Mark Schwarzer.

Chelsea XI: Schwarzer; Ivanovic, D Luiz, Terry, Cole; Mikel, Lampard; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Ba

  205. 1836:
HOW CAN ARSENAL QUALIFY?- Napoli v Arsenal (1945 GMT)

Here we go then. This is how Arsene Wenger can guide the Gunners into the last 16...

    1. If Borussia Dortmund fail to beat Marseille this evening, Arsenal will qualify

    2. If Borussia Dortmund beat Marseille, Arsenal must avoid a three-goal defeat against Napoli to qualify

    3. Arsenal will finish top of Group F if they avoid defeat against Napoli. They will also finish top if they avoid a three-goal defeat and Borussia Dortmund fail to beat Marseille.

    Everybody got that?

  206. 1834:

Have we all got the answer? No cheating now...

    Group F

Group F is a real head scratcher for us all tonight as there is the possibility of Arsenal, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund all ending the night level on 12 points.

Who will go through if that is the case? Well it all comes down to head-to-head records. But anything other than a 3-0 defeat for Arsenal in Naples tonight should be enough for the Gunners.

I shall attempt to spell out how they can go through...

  207. 1831:

Arsene, Jurgen and Rafa were playing in a football tournament.

The boys are awarded three points for a win.

    Rafael Benitez, Arsene Wenger

Arsene beat Rafa 2-0, lost 2-1 to Jurgen but then beat Jurgen 1-0. Tonight, he loses 2-0 to Rafa.

Rafa lost 2-0 to Arsene, beat Jurgen 2-1, lost 3-1 to Jurgen but then beats Arsene 2-0 tonight.

    Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen lost 2-1 to Rafa, beat Arsene 2-1, lost to Arsene 1-0 and then beat Rafa 3-1.

Which two boys qualify from the group? And which boy has to play with his friends on a Thursday night from now on?

You must show your working out...
