Aidy Boothroyd: Northampton Town face a 'massive' month

Northampton Town manager Aidy Boothroyd says they face a 'massive' month, with four of their next six league games away from Sixfields.

The Cobblers, who are 23rd in League Two, have lost only one of their last four league games but have only won once in 10 away trips.

Boothroyd told BBC Radio Northampton: "There's been an upturn and we've got to keep that going in a massive month.

"It could be a season-defining month. Away results need to be much better."

Like this Saturday's opponents Bury, Northampton are out of the FA Cup, and they will now concentrate on climbing above the relegation zone for the first since September.

  • 21/12/13 Wycombe (h)
  • 26/12/13 Burton (a)

"With the last four games, I've been pleased," said Boothroyd.

"But it [the away form] is a monkey we've got to get off our back. What better time to do it than in a very important part of the season for us? We're playing teams around us and we have to put it right.

"There's the challenge and we've got to see if we're up to it.

"We're not there yet but I'm absolutely convinced we're heading for a happier second half of the season."

Meanwhile, Boothroyd says he has one eye on making changes in January.

"We do need to clear the decks a little bit," he said.

"It's important that we refresh it because when you analyse it, it does need a good winter clean.

"We'll organise in the short term and get some points on the board but, moving forward, we have to make sure we get a lot leaner than we are at the moment."
