As it happened

  1. 2230:

Right, that is your lot for tonight. Tony Pullis has put his first points on the board as Palace boss and Cardiff at home next will be a good chance to build momentum. Whisper it quietly and they could possibly even get out of the bottom three if things go their way elsewhere.

Thanks for your company and especially the managerial fashion shouts early on. Bye for now.

  2. 2227:
MANAGER REACTION- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham
    Tony Pulis

Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis: "In the first 20 minutes we were on the back foot, we didn't start well and looked pretty nervous but then we got into the game and I'm very pleased for Marouane Chamakh, he has really worked hard. He and Cameron Jerome were a handful."

  3. 2226:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham
    pass completions

Some nice numbers from Opta highlight Marouane Chamakh's link-up play from tonight as well.

A headed goal? A hard-running target for long balls? That is the sort of thing we were expecting when Arsene Wenger picked him up on a free from Bordeaux back in 2010.

  4. 2218:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Ravel Morrison's yellow card after the final whistle in tonight's game is his fifth of the season. He will miss the visit to Liverpool. With Andy Carroll still not fit to make a playing return to Anfield, they will miss his creativity.

  5. 2211:
MANAGER REACTION- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham
    West Ham's Sam Allardyce

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce speaking to BT Sport: "We did not have enough cutting edge, that was the problem for us and having had no problems in the first half we were looking to try and probe and get on target in the first half. But we gave away the most ridiculous goal, from our point of view, that I've seen for a very long time."

  6. 2209:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham
    Crystal Palace team areas

Crystal Palace were compact and hardworking in midfield, with the impressive Joel Ward (number 2) offering width and getting forward from right-back.

  7. 2206:
ACTION AREAS- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham
    Full-time action areas

Palace were content to allow West Ham to have more of the ball in the second half, but were still able to keep up an attacking threat.

  8. 2203:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

The two 2000 kick-offs are over, and Reading have firmed up their status in the play-off places with a 1-0 win over Charlton, courtesy of Billy Sharp's strike in the first half. A screamer from Oliver Norwood gave Huddersfield a 1-0 victory over Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.

  9. 2203:
PLAYER REACTION- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham
    marouane chamakh

Crystal Palace goalscorer Marouane Chamakh: "We stayed strong and didn't give them the chances to score and I hope it will be like that every week until the end of the season."

The atmosphere at Selhurst Park was superb tonight. Plenty of decibels, bouncing and banners.

Matt Brereton: Wasn't sure about Pulis when first linked following Holloway's exit from CPFC, but he could just be the man for this tough job.

Sam Victory: Palace deserved the win. Us though? Not good enough from Sam playing Diame on the left? Where was Jarvis?

Dave Cassells: Early yet but Pulis has brought a hard work ethic to this palace team..outfield players were fantastic especially Barry Bannan.

  12. 2200:
    WHAT IT MEANS
    Table

This is how we look at the ugly end of the Premier League and it makes easier reading for Crystal Palace after that win. The Eagles are only one off Fulham in the goal difference column as well.

West Ham have a tough run of fixture coming up with Liverpool (away), Manchester United (away) and Arsenal (home) all to play before the end of 2013.

  13. 2156:
Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman at Selhurst Park, BBC Radio 5 liveCrystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

"Crystal Palace worked extremely hard tonight, they got the goal and could have had more. In the last three fames they have won two and all they can do now is look forward and if they can get another win against Cardiff [in the next game] and keep the momentum going they will give themselves a great chance of getting out trouble."

  14. 2155:
YELLOW CARD- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

A clutch of players from both sides surrounding Ravel Morrison after he reacts to a collision with Joel Ward on the final whistle by shoving two palms into the face of the Palace defender.

He has lost his head entirely there and is a very, very lucky lad to only see yellow.

  15.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman at Selhurst Park, BBC Radio 5 liveCrystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

It's been a disappointing performance by West Ham, especially after they had such an impressive victory against Fulham. They just haven't done enough on the day but you have to give credit to Crystal Palace.

You can listen to full match commentary from Selhurst Park on BBC Radio 5 live.

  16. 2152:
FULL-TIME- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham
  17. 90+3 mins:
CLOSE!- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Jimmy Kebe with an outstanding chance to win it, but the Mali winger clears the bar as the ball breaks for him out of a challenge with Jussi Jaaskelainen just outside the box.

  18. 90 +2 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

George McCartney is ruled a yard offside as Ravel Morrison plays the ball in behind the Palace rearguard. Correct call.

  19. 90+1 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

James Collins is judged to have competed a little too physically with Danny Gabbidon as the ball comes into the Palace box. The Wales international is outraged, the home fans relieved.

Ian in Cambridge, via text: Cambridge United win in the cup. Sheffield United next on Sunday. What a great job Richard Money has done.

  21. 2148:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

QPR have gone level with Leicester at the top of the table after their 3-0 win over Bournemouth at Loftus Road. It was a good night for the teams in the relegation zone - Yeovil beat Blackpool 1-0, Sheffield Wednesday came from behind to beat Leicester 2-1 and Barnsley held on for a 2-1 win at Brighton. Despite these results, it's as you were in the bottom three though.

  22. 90 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Jimmy Kebe concedes a corner, but referee Lee Mason fails to spot that Mile Jedinak rather than James Collins gets the final touch as the ball heads behind from the set-piece. Five minutes of added time for the hosts to see out.

  23.
    GET INVOLVED

Richard Powell: Heard Allardyce offering AVB advice during a radio interview today...Hey, Sam, how about you get your own house in order first!

David Mansfield: How are West Ham not in the relegation spots? They play bad, boring football and they can't score.

Joel Pennington: Pulls might just be the man to save Palace. Always thought he did a good job at Stoke. Ugly, but good.

  24. 87 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

West Ham's Mark Noble pumps a free-kick into the Crystal Palace box, but the home defence is standing strong.

  25. 2144:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Quite an end to the match at Huish Park, where Blackpool have had three men sent off in the dying minutes at Yeovil, Kirk Broadfoot, Ricardo Fuller and Gary MacKenzie the ones heading for the dressing room just ahead of their eight team-mates..

John Dykes: If anyone can get palace out of the trouble they are in, its Tony. Wish him the best (provided it's not at Stoke's expense)

Mark Lovell: If Tony keeps Crystal Palace in Premier League suggest rechristened Pontious Pulis??

Plus Systems: They're going to have to change their name to Crystal Pulis if he keeps them up!

  29. 2141:
    FA CUP RESULT

Cambridge United have produced an FA Cup upset by overcoming Bury 2-1. They will now face Sheffield United in the second round on Sunday. Midfielder Luke Berry's opener was promptly cancelled out by Shaun Harrad but Berry was on hand to grab a late winner for the Skrill Premier table toppers.

  30. 83 mins:
SUBSTITUTION- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Palace make a change as Barry Bannan departs to universal acclaim from home fans? He takes his time in making his way to the sidelines to slap hands with the incoming Stuart O'Keefe.

  31. 81 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Final 10 minutes of normal time and Crystal Palace, as Nigel Spackman says, are looking comfortable. Will they keep their nerve and keep playing, or might we have a desperate last few minutes for the home fans as they drop deep and hang on for their life? Let's find out.

  32.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman at Selhurst Park, BBC Radio 5 liveCrystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

"Early on in the second half Jussi Jaaskelainen made a couple of superb saves and maybe that will eventually be enough to earn his side a point but to be honest West Ham don't look like they are going to score."

You can listen to full match commentary from Selhurst Park on BBC Radio 5 live.

  33. 79 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Barry Bannan is showing off his defensive diligence to the new boss, chasing back hard to get in front of the ageing Joe Cole and shepherd the ball back to Julian Speroni.

  34. 78 mins:
SUBSTITUTION- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Razvan Rat is off and George McCartney is on in a like-for-like swap at left-back. That is the last shuffle of the pack from West Ham.

  35. 77 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Ravel Morrison sends a scruffy shot wide as he takes it first time from a difficult angle. West Ham are struggling to pick apart the Palace defence.

  36.
    GET INVOLVED- #bbcfootball

Henry Gathercole: Phoned family at the match at Selhurst Park all the way from Uganda and it sounds buzzing. What an atmosphere. Up the #Palace!

Dave Cassells: This palace/ west ham match is end to end.. Tackles flying in..it's a fantastic match.

Jack McLeod: People need to stop presuming goals will come when Carroll returns. His record since leaving Newcastle isn't fantastic.

  37. 2133:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATES

Oliver Norwood has broken the deadlock at the Reebok to put Huddersfield ahead against Bolton with a spectacular long-range strike. Frank Nouble has extended Ipswich's lead to 3-1 over Blackburn.

  38. 75 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Mohamed Diame wins a free-kick from Mile Jedinak with a neat change of feet and Stewart Downing likes the look of this one. The former Liverpool man gets the nod from his team-mates and his dipping effort brings a good save from Julian Speroni. The Palace keeper hung on well with West Ham players sniffing around for a rebound.

  39. 2130:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATES

Doncaster Rovers are back in it at St Andrews after a piledriver from David Cotterill made it 1-1 against Birmingham City.

  40. 72 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Hang on a second. There is a stoppage in play for some running repairs on the netting in Crystal Palace's goal. Julian Speroni is just showing referee Lee Mason that the mesh has come away from his right-hand post and is flapping free.

On runs a member of the groundstaff to tie it back into place and we are good to go again.

  41. 68 mins:
SUBSTITUTION- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Jimmy Kebe is on for Jason Puncheon as Tony Pulis swaps his right wingers. Kebe enraged West Ham fans with a little showboating when he played against them for Reading back in December 2011. He adjusted his socks mid-dribble. Cheeky in anyone's book.

  42.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman at Selhurst Park, BBC Radio 5 liveCrystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

"I thought there was a foul in the first place, then there was holding so I think West Ham will be feeling aggrieved about what happened. The linesman had his flag up for a long time but the incident involving Chamakh was six of one and half a dozen of the other but the initial foul was on James Tomkins so it should have been a penalty."

You can listen to full match commentary from Selhurst Park on BBC Radio 5 live.

  43. 2124:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATES

There have been a few goals around tonight - but not at the Reebok or at Turf Moor. It's still 0-0 at Bolton and Huddersfield and Burnley vs Watford.

Matt Phillips has made it 3-0 for QPR at home to Bournemouth, and if the score stays like that Rangers will go level at the top of the table with Leicester, who are losing 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday.

Listen to live commentary on Sheffield Wednesday v Leicester City on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra and check out all the latest scores here.

  44. 63 mins:
DISALLOWED GOAL- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Stewart Downing thrashes home hard and low with that trusty left, but the whistle has already blown. It is not entirely clear what for though. James Tomkins and Joey O'Brien have both stayed onside to contest a cross, maybe the latter pushed Marouane Chamakh as he went up for the header. But it was a generous call for the hosts.

  46. 61 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Crystal Palace are putting themselves about in midfield. Kagisho Dikgacoi is perhaps a little fortunate that referee Lee Mason was distracted by Mile Jedinak's foul on Ravel Morrison while he was sliding through Mark Noble.

  47. 59 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Carlton Cole is blowing quite hard on the West Ham bench after being removed from the fray. I think he would have tapped out pretty soon had Sam Allardyce not thrown in the towel for him.

  48. 2116:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

There's a hold up in play at Brighton as referee James Linnington is forced off with an injury. The fourth official was ready to replace him but now he has disappeared down the tunnel - maybe he did not want to get caught short on his big night.

  49. 58 mins:
SUBSTITUTION- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Big Sam has seen enough. Off comes Carlton Cole and Kevin Nolan and Joe Cole and Modibo Maiga are on in their place to freshen up the Hammers' attack. Mark Noble has taken the captain's armband from Kevin Nolan.

  50. 2114:

Andy in Gloucester, via text: Andy, Gloucester, Sir Tony to keep the Palace up.

  51. 55 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Selhurst Park is rocking on the back of their side's spell of pressure. West Ham have managed to get their foot on the ball and buy themselves a bit of time to clear their heads.

  52. 2112:
Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman at Selhurst Park, BBC Radio 5 liveCrystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

On Carlton Cole: "I think he has led the line very well at times and turned Gabbidon a couple of times. He also put a terrific ball in for Downing but overall he has held the ball up well. I am not sure how sharp he is at the moment and it will be interesting to see how long he lasts tonight. When you look at the benches West Ham have the far stronger one."

You can listen to full match commentary from Selhurst Park on BBC Radio 5 live.

  53. 2112:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Barnsley's lead at the Amex has been halved with Brighton's Matthew Upson heading the ball home to make it 2-1 to the Yorkshire club. Forest have equalised at the New Den against Millwall, Nathaniel Chalobah bundling it in to make it 2-2.

Listen to live commentary on Sheffield Wednesday v Leicester City on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra and check out all the latest scores here.

  54. 53 mins:
CLOSE!- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Palace go close three times in the space of two minutes. First, Jason Puncheon's shot is bravely blocked by the lunge of James Collins, Kagisho Dikgacoi heads over from Barry Bannan's swirling cross from the resulting corner and finally Cameron Jerome is denied when one-on-one with Jussi Jaaskelainen by a brilliant save from the West Ham goalkeeper.

Will they rue not making one of those stick?

  55. 49 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

West Ham put together a lengthy spell of possession but there is no end product as Mohamed Diame cut in off the left and skies a shot into the stands.

  56. 48 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

There is definitely a little more strut to Marouane Chamakh's movement since scoring that opener. James Collins slides in to dispossess him, but he is showing for the ball and running the channels with more enthusiasm than he has in recent weeks.

  57. 46 mins:
KICK-OFF- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Marouane Chamakh and Carlton Cole have a chat and a catch-up before the visitors get us going again.

  58. 2101:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Barnsley's long trip to the south coast could pay off nicely if it carries on like this, the Championship-propping Tykes are now 2-0 ahead at Brighton after Jacob Mellis extended their lead early in the second half.

At the top end of the table, QPR are now 2-0 up at home to Bournemouth after Junior Hoilett added to Charlie Austin's opener. As it stands, Rangers are level with leaders Leicester.

Millwall have retaken the lead at home to Nottingham Forest after Martyn Woolford made it 2-1.

    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

West Ham have had more of the ball and territory, but Palace have been more efficient where it matters.

  65.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman at Selhurst Park, BBC Radio 5 live

"The goal was a real lift for the crowd because West Ham were really bossing the game. Tony Pulis will be pleased by the scoreline but he won't be completely happy with the performance. They need to push on now and if they can then they can win the game and get off the bottom of the Premier League table.

  66. 2048:
HALF-TIME- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Tony Pulis jogs off to the home dressing room with a lead to defend.

  67. 45+1 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Palace will need that sort of defending to get out of their spot of bother. Damien Delaney throws his body in the way of Stewart Downing's stinging volley from the edge of the box. That would have given Julian Speroni some questions to answer if he hadn't.

  68. 45 mins:
    Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham

Sam Allardyce sinks deep into his padded coat, folds his arms and takes out his aggression on an unfortunate stick of gum. Two minutes of injury time.

  69.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman at Selhurst Park, BBC Radio 5 live

"It was a poor corner, but when Bannan put it back in Chamakh was left unmarked, it was terrible defending by West Ham. Chamakh didn't even connect properly but he didn't need to. He won't get an easier goal than that and it was completely against the run of play but Crystal Palace won't care about that, now they just have to stay ahead until the break.

You can listen to full match commentary from Selhurst Park on BBC Radio 5 live.

  70. 42 mins:
GOAL- Crystal Palace 1-0 West Ham - Marouane Chamakh

Barry Bannan's first attempt at the corner fails to beat the first man, but he produces a doozie of a curling centre as the ball comes back to him. All Marouane Chamakh needs to do is stick a flick of forehead on it and Palace have the lead. That is the Moroccan's first goal since 24 August.

  71. 40 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Crystal Palace have not been forward much in the last 10 minutes, but Joel Ward 's shot ricochets behind off James Tomkins to earn them a corner.

  72.

Opta Joe: 5 - QPR's Charlie Austin has now registered five goals in his last five appearances at Loftus Road. Consistent.

  73. 39 mins:
CLOSE!- Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Mohamed Diame bullets a header over the top from ten yards out as Stewart Downing lands a cross right on the money. The midfielder should perhaps have done better but he was having to jump with Danny Gabbidon hanging off him like a rucksack.

  74. 2038:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

It's half-time in eight of tonight's 10 games, and as it stands QPR are into second place thanks to their 1-0 lead, courtesy of Charlie Austin, at home to Bournemouth. Leaders Leicester took an early lead at Sheffield Wednesday, but the Owls have hit back to lead 2-1 thanks to two goals from Connor Wickham. At the other end of the table, Barnsley are still rooted to the foot of the Championship but the Tykes lead 1-0 at Brighton.

  75. 2037:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Barnsley caretaker manager Micky Mellon has started his tenure well, with the bottom-of-the-table Tykes taking the lead at Brighton thanks to a fine individual goal from Paddy McCourt. Nottingham Forest have equalised at Millwall, Andy Reid rifling home for his sixth goal of the season to make it 1-1 at the New Den.

  76. 2037:
    FA CUP UPDATE

There is one FA Cup first-round replay tonight as the Skrill Premier league leaders Cambridge United host League Two's Bury. The match is goalless at half-time with the prize for the winners being a home tie against Sheffield United.

  77. 35 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Carlton Cole spins in behind Danny Gabbidon and has enough pace to leave the Palace defender behind. His cross towards the back post and Stewart Downing is kept away from its intended target by a covering Dean Moxey though.

  78. 32 mins:
CLOSE!- Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Clever stuff from West Ham as Mark Noble strolls up to the set-piece as though he is assessing the angles, sticks his toe under the ball and flicks it over the wall for Kevin Nolan. The Palace defence are caught leaden footed, but Nolan cannot connect cleanly as he tries to steer the volley into the far corner as the ball drops over his shoulder.

  79. 30 mins:
YELLOW CARD- Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Ravel Morrison gets a chance to run at the Crystal Palace defence, but is floored before he can get too far by Damien Delaney. Free-kick 30 yards out and a yellow card for the Palace man.

  80.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman at Selhurst Park, BBC Radio 5 liveCrystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

"West Ham are looking more on an attacking threat now, largely because Kevin Nolan is getting more on the ball. The quality of Downing, Morrison and Nolan is starting to show in this game and Palace are being made to work very hard. Palace seem to lack the quality at this level, at this level you really do need some very high quality players to make things happen, they have a lot of players but maybe not the quality they need."

You can listen to full match commentary from Selhurst Park on BBC Radio 5 live.

  81. 28 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Replays suggest that the ball may have brushed Kagisho Dikgacoi's hand in the Palace midfielder's eagerness to clear a cross. Referee Lee Mason decides that there is not enough in there to warrant a penalty though.

  82. 26 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

West Ham work a free-kick cleverly to get Kevin Nolan the ball in a little pocket of space by the byeline. The midfielder's attempted cross is blocked however after a neat swivel.

  83. 24 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

West Ham are coming into the game more after Palace's fast start.

  84. 23 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Joel Ward finds himself outnumbered with Mohamed Diame and Kevin Nolan at the backpost as Stewart Downing sends a deep cross in. The Palace defender is up well to beat both to it though and gets the free-kick anyway with Nolan having strayed offside.

  85. 2022:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Reading are 1-0 up against Charlton through Billy Sharp, while Blackburn levelled against Ipswich through Jordan Rhodes. Lee Novak put Birmingham 1-0 up at home to Doncaster, while QPR took the lead when Charlie Austin slotted home from close range against Bournemouth.

    Charlie Austin
  86. 20 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Kevin Nolan gets up to join a West Ham attack and immediately has an effect, slipping a weighted ball into the path of Carlton Cole. The striker's mind is willing, but, after his time off, his body is a little less able and Julian Speroni is out quickly to beat him to it.

  87. 17 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Razvan Rat throws his hands up in disgust as he sends the ball whistling horribly wide off the outside of his boot. He had a decent slice of goal to aim at as well as the ball was laid back to him on the edge of the box.

  88. 2017:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Two of the division's strugglers are ahead in the respective games. Sheffield Wednesday have taken the lead, with Connor Wickham grabbing his second of the night by bending the ball in off the post to put the Owls 2-1 up against leaders Leicester.

John Lundstram, on loan from Everton, has put Yeovil ahead at Huish Park against Blackpool.

  89. 15 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Jason Puncheon slaps a shot low and hard off his instep from the angle and 25 yards out. It thuds into body of Jussi Jaaskelainen, but Palace are looking the brighter of the two sides so far.

  90.

Tom Miszkowski: Pulis has been in charge of Palace for little over a week & already he has got them playing like Stoke #hoof

Jamie Kent: Carlton Cole vs Maroune Chamakh. Football fans will witness a goalfest this evening.

Tim Dugdale: If Palace are to win tonight their performance has to be better quality than Chamakh's hair cut.

  91. 14 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Nevermind the ball, the players are spending a fair bit of time in the air themselves. Razvan Rat clambered on the back of Jason Puncheon to give away a free-kick in pursuit of another aerial ball. Barry Bannan gets a shot away from 25 yards, but does not get the curl needed to trouble Jussi Jaaskelainen.

  92. 2011:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

It's calmed down after that early flurry of goals, although Joey Barton and Harry Arter have been spoken to after clashing at QPR v Bournemouth. We're also under way in the 2000 kick offs at Bolton and Reading.

Listen to live commentary on Sheffield Wednesday v Leicester City on BBC 5 live sports extra.

  93. 10 mins:
Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman at Selhurst Park, BBC Radio 5 liveCrystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

"It is very scrappy so far with both team's giving the ball away and they have to get better. For West Ham it seems Carlton Cole is a little bit exposed up there on his own, it looks like Sam Allardyce is playing safe for the time being but Palace are getting the ball forward early and then quickly getting up to support Cameron Jerome."

  94. 8 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Crystal Palace are not playing a lot of football in the middle third of the pitch. The hosts have been content to cut out the middlemen with Danny Gabbidon and the rest of the defence looking long to Cameron Jerome and Marouane Chamakh.

  95. 6 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Joel Ward pings across a skidding ball into the near-post area of the West Ham box, but there is no-one putting any pressure on Jussi Jaaskelainen and the Hammers keeper gathers with ease.

  96. 4 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Kevin Nolan is playing a deeper role in the West Ham midfield, leaving Ravel Morrison with the play-making duties behind Carlton Cole.

  97. 2 mins:
    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham

Joey O'Brien has been splayed out on the turf by a clumsy challenge by Cameron Jerome. The West Ham defender brushes himself down and picks himself up. Bubbling atmosphere in south London.

  98. 1 min:

Matt in Telford, via text: David Pleat's beige suit when Luton stayed up in 1983. Not to mention his dance! Appalling.

Lucy Hayhurst, via text: Managerial fashion touches? It's got to be Gerry Francis' ever present mullet. The guy hasn't changed it for over 30 years.

That is absolutely the last one. Promise.

  100. 1959:
    CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Leicester were not ahead for too long at Hillsborough, with Connor Wickham bending in a superb equaliser for Sheffield Wednesday. At The Den, Steve Morison has put Millwall ahead against Nottingham Forest with a low drive from outside the area.

Eight of tonight's 10 games started at 1945, but Bolton v Huddersfield and Reading v Charlton kick off at 2000.

  101. 1959:

Tony Pulis jogs out along the touchline, turning to applaud all four stands on his first home game in charge of Palace. The Eagles fans return the favour.

  102. 1958:
Crystal Palace v West Ham (2000 GMT)

The pop-pom-waggling Crystals form a guard of honour for the two teams as they stride out onto the pitch. The home fans have also pulled out a banner thanking Keith Millen for his work as caretaker between the reigns of Ian Holloway and Tony Pulis.

  106. 1948:
Crystal Palace v West Ham (2000 GMT)

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce speaking to BT Sport: "It's a massive game as was Saturday against Fulham, who are a team below us. From our point of view, you don't want Crystal Palace gaining points on you so the objective is to go out and continue our fantastic record of seven cleans sheets this year which gives us the basis to play.

"It's about Carlton Cole, Ravel Morrison, Stewart Downing and Mohamed Diame playing to their best when we are in possession. If those four play well, the team will play well, because they will hold the ball up and we will create chances."

  108. 1945:

Opta Joe: 3 - Crystal Palace have scored just three goals in their last 10 Premier League matches, despite attempting 67 shots at goal. Denied.

I'm not sure that either side's forward line is their strength in tonight's fixture.

  110. 1941:
Crystal Palace v West Ham (2000 GMT)

Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis on BT Sport: "The priority is to get as many points as we can. We have to stay in games and to win a few games we need to do that.

"We will try and bring a few players in, that was one of the conditions I spoke to the chairman about. The two games I've watched, the lads have been very good and their attitude to work has been first-class.

"This is probably them most difficult [challenge], because you're going into a club which is already set up and you don't have time to make changes, but I always enjoy a challenge."

  112. 1939:

West Ham picked up the seemingly obligatory three points against Fulham at the weekend, ending a run of five matches without a win.

Manager Sam Allardyce, who famously said that he was more suited to Inter Milan or Real Madrid than the lower reaches of the Premier League, had previously been toying with Barcelona-esque strikerless system.

The 4-6-0 formation worked a treat in the 3-0 win over Tottenham, but might not be seen again for a while,

    WORLD CUP NEWS

"Pot X" sounds like a cool place to be doesn't it? Perhaps some kind of super-exclusive nightspot or a collective of underground revolutionaries.

Well, that is the name that Fifa has chosen for a temporary grouping of Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and Uruguay in Friday's World Cup draw.

England have a one-in-eight chance of being plucked out of Pot 2, where they currently are listed, and being lumped together with one of those nations for next summer's tournament.

In other news, Fifa have admitted that three of the stadiums for the tournament will ready to be handed into their control as planned in December.

One of the less surprising stories of the day there.

  115. 1925:

Don't look now Palace fans, but here is a stat to weigh against the unsinkable Tony Pulis's record.

Crystal Palace's current tally of seven points is the least they have collected after 13 games of a Premier League season.

And they have been relegated in all four previous top-flight campaigns.

Your managerial fashionista nominations are coming in on Twitter...

  118. 1916:

The lesser-spotted Andy Carroll is apparently close to a return to training for West Ham, but Sam Allardyce has warned that it will take time for him to get up to full speed following his foot injury.

"I need to be as patient again because he hasn't done any pre-season and hasn't kicked a ball since May," said Allardyce.

It looks like Hammers fans will have to make do with Modibo Maiga and Carlton Cole for some time yet...

  119. 1914:

This will be Carlton Cole's first Premier League start since the 0-0 draw with Liverpool in April. The striker was released by West Ham in the summer only to be re-signed on a three-month contract in October.

  120. 1909:

"There was a guaranteed XI who played. No matter what happened, how you trained or if you came on and did well in the games you were involved in, you were still never going to start."

That was Cameron Jerome complaining about Tony Pulis's consistent team selections when the pair were working together at Stoke.

Not sure he will be kicking off about it now that he is in favour.

  121. 1905:
    BREAKING CRYSTAL PALACE TEAM NEWS

Crystal Palace are unchanged from the team that lost to Norwich at the weekend.

Crystal Palace starting XI: Speroni, Ward, Gabbidon, Delaney, Moxey, Jedinak, Dikgacoi, Bannan, Puncheon, Chamakh, Jerome

  122. 1904:
    BREAKING WEST HAM TEAM NEWS

Ravel Morrison comes back into the West Ham midfield with Carlton Cole starting up front.

West Ham starting XI: Jaaskelainen, O'Brien, Collins, Tomkins, Rat, Noble, Nolan, Morrison, Downing, Diame, C.Cole

  123. 1859:
Exeter manager Paul Tisdale adds a touch of colour to the touchline

    We have an early front-runner.

Exeter manager Paul Tisdale is known as one of the most distinguishably dressed managers in the Football League, thanks largely to his close friendship with the founder of Ted Baker, Ray Kelvin.

This is his summer outfit, while he can regularly be seen at the moment in a flat cap, wax jacket and cravat on the touchline up and down League Two.

  124. 1853:

    Malcolm Allison

"He wears the club shop" was what Stoke fans used to chant about Tony Pulis during his time at the Britannia Stadium. But not every manager is content to stick out 90 minutes in a tracksuit.

I want to hear your favourite managerial fashion touches - former Palace boss Malcolm Allison's fedora (pictured above), Pep Guardiola's skinny tie, the sleek overcoats Jose Mourinho seems to have misplaced between his first and second spells at Chelsea - whatever floats your stylistic boat is welcome here.

  125. 1846:
    CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND-UP

It's a busy night in the Championship, with 10 matches taking place. Second-placed Burnley will be looking to keep pace with Leicester, and Clarets boss Sean Dyche is likely to be highly motivated with his side taking on Watford, the club that dismissed him in favour of Gianfranco Zola last year.

Keeping the former clubs theme going, Harry Redknapp will be up against the club that gave him his managerial break when QPR host Bournemouth. Bottom-of-the-table Barnsley, without a manager since the dismissal of David Flitcroft, make the long journey to the south coast to take on a Brighton side on a six-game unbeaten run.

  126. 1840:
BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

West Ham are Palace's opposition tonight in the evening's one Premier League game. Kick-off is 2000 GMT.

There are a whole heap of Championship games on the undercard however with leaders Leicester taking on managerless Sheffield Wednesday in a game you can hear on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra.

  127. 1836:

Do the answers to Crystal Palace's survival lie beneath Pulis' headwear?

At his unveiling as Ian Holloway's successor 10 days ago, much was made of the former Stoke boss's record of never having been relegated in a 21-year managerial career.

He already has a six-point gap to make up on 17th and, after defeat by Norwich at the weekend, was talking about the need for time and money to turn the ship around.

I'm not sure he will have as much as he wants of either...

  128. 1830:
    Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis

Whatever results they achieve, whatever silverware they win, some managers will forever be associated with their accessories.

Steve McClaren had his brolly, Brian Clough had his green jumper, Sir Alex Ferguson had a bottomless supply of chewing gum and an infallible stopwatch.

And tonight, for the first time since Stoke's 2-1 defeat by Tottenham back in May, Tony 'the Cap' Pulis is back in front of a set of home fans.
