As it happened

  1. 2114:
    Real Madrid 4-0 Real Valladolid

That is that for tonight - thanks for reading and all your messages.

  2. 2109:

Opta: Gareth Bale is the 1st player to score a perfect hat-trick in La Liga this season. He has also scored seven goals in this La Liga season, one more than Mesut Ozil managed in his first campaign with Real Madrid.

Gary Lineker: Hat-trick for @GarethBale11 Great to see him proving what most of us knew. He's a monstrous talent!

Godsent Ubhi: You really said so Saj. 4-0. You just won a private jet.

Alas Godsent, there is no private jet - just the comfort of knowing I finally correctly predicted a score.

  5. 2058:
    Real Madrid 4-0 Real Valladolid

Real Madrid are now three points behind Barcelona and their city rivals Atletico. Barca have not played their 15th game of the campaign - they travel to Athletic Bilbao, who are fifth, on Sunday at 2000 GMT.

That will not be easy. Barca will be without Lionel Messi, who has gone back to Argentina to recover from a hamstring injury, and come into the match on the back of a defeat against Ajax - that's Ajax!

  6. 2048:
FULL-TIME- Real Madrid 4-0 Real Valladolid
Gareth Bale and Angel di Maria

I'll poke anybody who utters, "who needs Cristiano Ronaldo?"

Gareth Bale did the job of Cristiano Ronaldo and should be rightly pleased, but this was Valladolid - plucky, but ultimately not very good.

The players who particularly impressed were Angel Di Maria and Isco - they were magnificent.

As I mentioned before - 'the double' is most definitely on.

  7. 2045:
GOAL- Real Madrid 4-0 Real Valladolid - Gareth Bale hat-trick (89 mins)

Yes, none of the goals were from further out than eight yards - but £85m-man Gareth Bale scores his first hat-trick for Real Madrid. Marcelo's low cut-back from the left finds Bale, who slots in from about four yards.

  8. 2045:
    Real Madrid 3-0 Real Valladolid

There are two minutes remaining and Valladolid have a corner...

  9. 2042:
    Real Madrid 3-0 Real Valladolid

Jese's skids one along the surface that Diego Marino fails to gather - luckily for him the ball goes behind for a corner, which comes to nothing.

  10. 2040:
    Real Madrid 3-0 Real Valladolid

Real Madrid go close once again. This time Alvaro Morata crosses from the left, the ball falls to Isco, who ducks one way then the other before he finds Marcelo, who misses his kick.

  11. 2037:
    Real Madrid 3-0 Real Valladolid

The latest stats suggest that Real Madrid have had 20 shots on goal - they have been dominant, but haven't had to shift out ofthird gear.

David Williams: I think Ronaldo might struggle to get back into the team!!! ;-)

  13. 2034:
    Real Madrid 3-0 Real Valladolid

Will Bale get his first hat-trick for Real Madrid? He's got 14 minutes (and a bit).....

Andrew: Bale's as good in a Real white shirt as he was is a white spurs shirt. He scored when he wants!

Isaac Omole: And they say Neymar is better. Bale is a class player

  15. 2030:
SUBSTITUTION- Real Madrid 3-0 Real Valladolid

Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata and Jese come on for goalscorer Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria.

  16. 2028:
    Real Madrid 3-0 Real Valladolid

Isco is playing ridiculously well - he weaves around three challenges. No damage done - it's just nice to watch.

  17. 2026:
    Turkish Super LigFenerbahce 3-3 Besiktas

Dirk Kuyt scored a late equaliser for Fenerbahce as they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Besiktas in an Istanbul derby that saw both sides reduced to 10 men.

Olcay Sahan put Besiktas ahead early on before Emmanuel Emenike equalised. Fenerbahce then had Raul Meireles dismissed in the 30th minute, but Moussa Sow's goal seven minutes later put them ahead.

Hugo Almeica scored twice in two minutes just before the break for Besiktas, who had Necip Uysal sent off midway through the second half. It looked as though they had done enough to take victory before Kuyt popped up late on to snatch a point.

  18. 2025:

    Elsewhere in Europe.....

  19. 2022:
    Real Madrid 3-0 Real Valladolid

Morocco forward Zakarya Bergdich appears to be at the centre of all that is good in Valladolid's attacking-third. This time the 24-year-old arrows a firm 25-yard strike on the angle which Diego Lopez plucks out of the air.

  20. 2019:
GOAL- Real Madrid 3-0 Real Valladolid - Gareth Bale (64 mins)

Bale scores his second of the night. Marcelo delivers a low cross from the left that Jesus Rueda only manages to clear to Bale, 10 yards out - the Welshman picks his shots and sidefoots in.

  21. 2018:

Goal! No! Offside! Gareth Bale plays the ball right for Dani Carvajal who slides a pinpoint cross across goal for Isco to tap in. Carvajal is flagged - but it was as tight as an elastic band round my forehead.

  22. 2014:
    Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

Real Madrid's subs, forwards Alvaro Morata and Jese, are warming-up on the sidelines. An early change for the men in white?

  23. 2011:
    Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

Real Madrid continue to probe around the Valladolid defence, but at the other end the visitors are getting more sighters on goal - this time Zakarya Bergdich pulls out a low save from Diego Lopez.

  24. 2007:
SUBSTITUTION- Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

By the way, winger Omar Ramos came on for Swede Daniel Larsson at half-time.

  25. 2006:
CLOSE!- Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

Aye! Aye! Up at the other end, Valladolid left-back Carlos Pena fizzes one along the ground from outside the area that clears Diego Lopez's post by two feet.

Mehran Ebrahimi: Gareth Bale is starting to pick up the form from last season. What a player. Electric!

  27. 2003:
CLOSE!- Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

Luka Modric spanks one from 20 yards that whistles past the Valladolid right-hand upright. This Madrid team don't know when to let up.

  28. 2002:
KICK-OFF- Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

The second half is under way.

  29. 2001:
    Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

The teams are coming out for the second half. I reckon this will finish 4-0.

  30. 1957:
    Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

Remember, it's Athletic Bilbao v Barcelona on Sunday at 2000 GMT. We will have live text commentary on this website. It might be a tricky one for the Catalan giants.

  31. 1952:
FIRST-HALF STATS- Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid
    Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale

Possession: Real Madrid 65%, Real Valladolid 35%

Shots: Real Madrid 15, Real Valladolid 2

On target: Real Madrid 7, Real Valladolid 0

  32. 1949:
    Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

Some credit has to go the Real Madrid backroom team of manager Carlo Ancelotti and coaches Paul Clement and Zinedine Zidane. After an indifferent start for the new line-up they are now producing some fantastic results.

I wouldn't bet against them doing the double.

  33. 1946:
HALF-TIME- Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

So far so good for Los Blancos.

Do you think it will finish 2-0? What do you think of Bale's performance so far?

  34. 1942:
    Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

Cristiano Ronaldo is in the stands watching the match alongside his girlfriend - he seems to be enjoying the action.

You have been having your say on how much Real Madrid will miss Cristiano Ronaldo on the BBC Sport Facebook page:

Joseph Emorut: Ronaldo is the world best player. Yes Madrid are gonna miss him so much.

Crippy Cooke: Not that big at all. Madrid have quality over the park, and Gareth Bale is scoring for fun at present.

Gordon Davie: Ronaldo the best in the world right now yes they will miss him.

  36. 1939:
    Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

  37. 1936:
GOAL- Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid - Karim Benzema (36 mins)

Gareth Bale is involved again. This time the Wales forward floats a lovely weighted ball from the right on to the head of Karim Benzema, who bullets his effort past Diego Marino.

  38. 1934:
GOAL- Real Madrid 1-0 Real Valladolid - Gareth Bale (33 mins)
    Real Madrid

Who else while Cristiano Ronaldo's away. The flying Welshman heads in his seventh of the season after Angel Di Maria's shot from a tight angle is palmed into his path by Diego Marino. Real are off.

  39. 1931:
GREAT SAVE!- Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

Angel Di Maria is put through on goal, but his fierce shot is palmed away by Valladolid keeper Diego Marino. Strong hands.

  40. 1930:
CLOSE!- Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

Back at the other end Karim Benzema should have scored. The France striker makes space for himself on the edge of the area but curls his low effort two feet wide.

  41. 1929:
    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

A mini-break by Valladolid. The ball arrives at the feet of forward Morocco international Zakarya Bergdich, who wriggles past two challenges but is then dispossessed 20 yards from goal.

  42. 1925:
    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

Angel Di Maria tries another volley from outside the area - this time the Argentine's firm strike is well held by keeper Diego Marino.

  43. 1923:
    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

Marcelo has a Cheick Tiote-style effort from 25 yards - one that probably seemed a good idea before he struck the ball.

  44. 1922:
NEWSFLASH- Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

Real Madrid have not had an effort on goal in four minutes.

LJ Hunter: This is their chance to show they are not one man wonder! Sure Bale will have plenty to say with the ball tonight!

Pandy: No Ronaldo for Real Madrid tonight, it's gives Bale a massive opportunity to show us all his talent.

Andrew Priestley: With no Cristiano Ronaldo tonight, it's time for Gareth Bale to show the Real Madrid fans why they spent so much money on him.

  46. 1918:
    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

Gareth Bale's header from eight yards trickles harmlessly into the hands of Diego Marino - who despite the incessant early pressure, has yet to be forced into making a great save.

  47. 1916:
BALE EFFORT- Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

Gareth Bale - he of world-record fee fame - tries a speculative volley from 20 yards that goes high and wide.

  48. 1915:
    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

Real Madrid on the attack again - this is relentless. Angel Di Maria delivers a trademark sumptuous ball into the area from the left that Karim Benzema volleys into the side-netting at the far post.

  49. 1913:
CLOSE!- Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid
    Real Madrid

A lovely move by Real Madrid. Isco plays a one-two with Xabi Alonso and then dinks a ball across the six-yard area for Sergio Ramos, who misses the target with his header. That's two good chances for the Spain defender.

  50. 1909:
    Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

Quiet start for Real Madrid eh? Remember, they are without Cristiano Ronaldo tonight - he has a slight thigh injury.

Real Madrid are without Cristiano Ronaldo against Valladolid, how will they cope without him? Have your say via #bbceurofooty and on the BBC Sport Facebook page.

Jack: Real Madrid will be fine without CR7 tonight , sure they will still get a 4+ goal win.

Sivan John: They still have plenty of match winners even though he is absence. Di Maria will steer them to victory!

  52. 1906:
HITS THE WOODWORK- Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

Cripes! Angel Di Maria cracks a half volley from 25 yards (quarter volley if you're being particular) that beats Diego Marino and comes down off the crossbar. Ferocious.

  53. 1906:
CLOSE!- Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

    Sergio! Sergio! Sergio!

Ramos, who was sent off in the match against Galatasaray in midweek, heads over from six yards from a corner. Madrid should be ahead.

  54. 1904:
    French Ligue 1ROUND-UP

Colombia forward James Rodriguez made up for the absence of compatriot Radamel Falcao by scoring his first Ligue 1 goal to lead Monaco to a 2-0 home victory over Stade Rennes.

Rodriguez, who joined from FC Porto for £37m in the close season, opened his account with a 19th minute free-kick after having been fouled just outside the box.

Striker Anthony Martial then celebrated his first start in the top-flight, at the age of 17, by doubling the score from close range one minute before the break.

In the other early kick-off in France, St Etienne beat Reims 4-0.

  55. 1901:
KICK-OFF- Real Madrid 0-0 Real Valladolid

    The match gets under way.

  56. 1859:
Real Madrid v Real Valladolid (1900 GMT)

The teams are on the pitch - there is a minute's silence for Real player Fabio Coentrao's father.

  57. 1858:

Now back to the match we are focusing on.

Real Valladolid. The north of Spain club managed by Juan Ignacio Martinez, who was in charge of Levante, are fighting to stay up.

They've been a bit of a Yo-yo club (message me if you have a replacement suggestion for 'Yo-yo') - having been relegated and promoted twice from the top tier since 2004.

They are 17th after 14 games having won just two matches - don't expect them to win a third in Madrid.

"Madrid leave you with very few options," said Martinez.

"It's clear they are superior and we know it will be difficult but, in football, nothing is impossible, although we will have to go out there with a thousand eyes because in the game last Wednesday [against Galatasaray] they scored four goals with one less player [Sergio Ramos was sent off in the first half]."

  58. 1853:
    German BundesligaROUND UP
Dortmund's Robert Lewandowski scores his side's second goal with a penalty past Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius

Robert Lewandowski scored twice as Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win at Mainz.

Dortmund's title challenge had faltered in recent weeks, with Jurgen Klopp's side having lost to Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg in their previous two Bundesliga games.

It took a while for them to get going against Mainz, but they opened the scoring through Pierre Aubameyang in the 70th minute. The lead lasted just four minutes as Eric Maxim Choupo-Motin converted a penalty, but two late Lewandowski strikes sealed victory.

Dortmund are third, seven points behind Bayern. Second-place Bayer Leverkusen beat FC Nurnberg 3-0, Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen shared a 4-4 draw and Hertha drew 0-0 with Augsburg.

  59. 1849:
Real Madrid v Real Valladolid (1900 GMT)

Real Madrid appear to be going with a 4-2-3-1 formation against Valladolid, with Gareth Bale, Isco and Angel Di Maria behind striker Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid: Lopez, Pepe, Ramos, Benzema, Bale, Marcelo, Alonso, Carvajal, Modric, Di Maria, Isco. Subs: Casillas, Casemiro, Nacho, Jese, Morata, Illarra, Llorente.

Valladolid: Marino, Valiente, Rossi, Rueda, Guerra, Larsson, Sastre, Pena, Rubio, Bergdich, Alcatraz.

  60. 1845:
Real Madrid v Real Valladolid (1900 GMT)

We have some team news coming up team news fans...

  61. 1843:
German BundesligaBUNDESLIGA REVIEW- Bayern Munich 2-0 Eintracht Braunschweig
    Bayern Munich win again

Earlier, Arjen Robben scored twice as Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich extended their unbeaten league run to 39 games with victory over bottom-of-the-table Eintracht Braunschweig.

The Dutch winger headed in an early opener before getting the better of two defenders to add a second midway through the first half.

David Alaba produced a stunning goal line clearance to deny Braunschweig's Karim Bellarabi.

Bayern top the table with 38 points, four ahead of Bayer Leverkusen.

  62. 1839:
    Real Madrid training session

With Barcelona playing away at Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, Real Madrid have the opportunity to enjoy being just three points behind the leaders for a smidgen more than 24 hours.

Bad news: They will again be without top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo, who has a minor thigh strain which forced him to the 4-1 win against Galatasaray in midweek.

Good news: They've got Gareth Bale, Isco, Karim Benzema etc etc

Wales' most expensive football export, Bale, has scored two goals in his last two games - including a cracking free-kick against Galatasaray in Wednesday's 4-1 win.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti is expected to play him on the right against Valladolid - having given a subtle clue after the Champions League victory.

"I think he is most dangerous when he plays on the right and has more chances to use his shot," said the Italian.

"He played very well tonight in different positions, but I think he is more comfortable when he plays on the right."
