Bundesliga: The crisis that saved German football

Bayern Munich's chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge tells BBC Sport about the crisis that ultimately sparked an upturn in Germany's fortunes.

After a dismal performance at Euro 2000, for which they were widely criticised, the Germans poured significant investment into youth development.

Now, 13 years later, the Bundesliga is thriving and the national team is dominated by a core of exciting young players.

Germany face the Republic of Ireland and Sweden in the final round of World Cup qualifying.
