Morecambe extended their unbeaten run to six after a drab stalemate with struggling Northampton.

The Cobblers started brightly and Ivan Toney went close on a handful of occasions on his full debut.

The visitors grew into the game and ended the first half on top but both Alex Kenyon and Kevin Ellison failed to find the net.

Morecambe came closest to a goal in the second period but Mark Hughes saw his header cleared off the line.

The Shrimps are now ninth in League Two, while Northampton are 23rd, three points above bottom-club Accrington.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"I think it's a point gained and a fair result to keep our unbeaten run going.

"Last year, we came here and got dominated and lost the game.

"We've come into this one on the back of a good run, and although they started better than us, we weathered the storm and it became a bit more counter-attacking from both sides.

"Northampton is a tough place to come. They've got good quality and I'm pleased with a point and a clean sheet."
