Sean Marks' strike gave Braintree their first victory in six games with a win over Southport.
Marks latched onto Kenny Davis' pass and tucked away his third goal of the season for The Iron.
Davis almost made it two after the break but was denied by a fine save from Southport keeper Danny Hurst.
Matt Paine also headed a good chance wide while Karl Ledsham went close for the visitors in the second half but they could not find an equaliser.

Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire told BBC Essex:
"No game in this league is easy. If we'd scored the second goal, I think we could have maybe scored three or four.
"I just don't think it's dropping for us at the moment, we haven't had that little bit of luck.
"Listen I'll take it, it's about the result. It's the three points we needed.
"We were in total control of the game, we've made hard work of it because of hanging on for the 1-0 in the last five minutes when they put bodies forward."
