Kenny Davis tucked home a penalty right on half-time to earn Braintree a point against Forest Green.

Davis scored after a handball by visiting defender Chris Stokes.

James Norwood had put Forest Green ahead when he converted Yan Klukowski's cross and only a superb save by Nathan McDonald denied him a second.

Norwood also came close twice in the second half and Andy Mangan headed wide but visiting keeper Sam Russell denied Ryan Peters a winner at the other end.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Braintree Town Alan Devonshire told BBC Essex:

"I think both teams could have said they could have won it, but I suppose a point apiece will do us both.

"It was a bad goal to give away. We seemed a bit nervous the first 20 minutes, I don't know why.

"Second half, we were better and grew into the game, a draw is probably a fair result.

"I can't knock the commitment of the boys, we just lacked a bit of quality in the last third of the pitch.

"We've got round the back a few times and just didn't finish off."

Forest Green Rovers Manager Dave Hockaday told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

Dave Hockaday: Forest Green boss after 1-1 draw at Braintree

"We got dragged into a game that we shouldn't be playing. We don't want to fight, we want to play.

"We've come here to a very tough place and we've got a point but are absolutely devastated. It's not a bad place to be but we have to be better and learn.

"We've had the chances and we haven't taken them. At the end of the day for everything I talk about, if you don't take your chances you don't win the games."
