As it happened

  1. 2200:

Well that was a little too close for comfort for Barcelona but they survive the absence of Lionel Messi to make it six points from two games. Over in Italy, Rafael Benitez has started his Napoli reign in convincing style - which is more than can be said for Inter Milan, who struggled before overcoming Genoa - while Paris St-Germain are up and running.

Thanks for your company. It's been fun and the best thing is we'll be doing it all over again next weekend. Have a good week.

  2. 2153:
French Ligue 1FULL-TIME- Nantes 1-2 PSG

First win of the season for Paris St-Germain as they produced a dogged performance to overcome Nantes. Ezequiel Lavezzi's goal gave them the three points, but also pleasing for Laurent Blanc's side was Edinson Cavani scoring his second since joining the club.

  3. 2153:
La Liga Spanish leagueFULL-TIME- Malaga 0-1 Barcelona

Rarely have Barcelona been so pleased to hear the final whistle. Having been in control for long periods, the reigning champions survive three late scares before securing a narrow win.

Malaga will take encouragement from a hard-working - if at times ill-tempered - performance. They might have had a share of the spoils but were denied by a post - as well as Victor Valdes.

  4. 2148:
La Liga Spanish leagueGREAT SAVE!- Malaga 0-1 Barcelona

He has had very little to do all game but Victor Valdes produces a glorious stop to keep out a free header by Malaga substitute Sebastian Fernandez and then saves from Fernando Tissone. Frantic finish at the La Rosaleda. Barca cannot wait for the full time whistle.

  5. 2141:
La Liga Spanish leagueGREAT SAVE!- Malaga 0-1 Barcelona

Fabulous strike from Neymar as he bends a 25-yard free-kick towards the Malaga net but goalkeeper Wilfredo Caballero produces an equally impressive stop to atone for his earlier error.

Moments earlier, Neymar had been on the end of a cynical challenge by Sergio Sanchez, who had already been booked. The referee is clearly in a good mood as he awards the free-kick but allows Sanchez to stay on. Five minutes left on the clock.

  6. 2140:
    Serie A in ItalyFULL-TIME- Napoli 3-0 Bologna

Rafael Benitez could not have asked for more as Napoli serve up a dominant performance in the Spaniard's first game in charge of the club.

Marek Hamsik particularly impressed, scoring two goals, and the performance certainly bodes well as Napoli bid to deny Juventus a third successive title. For Bologna, the signs were less promising. A long season ahead beckons based on this showing.

Capital R: With the squad PSG have, they should be beating most teams in Ligue1 comfortably - not struggling as they have recently.

  8. 2134:
La Liga Spanish leagueMalaga 0-1 Barcelona
    Malaga v Barcelona

Malaga have been outplayed possession wise yet, with 15 minutes remaining, they are still in this. Barca coasted to three points last week after hammering Levante 7-0. This is been a lot different and they have been made to work hard to get into a winning position. Can they finish the job? Or will there be a late twist?

  9. 2134:
French Ligue 1GOAL- Nantes 1-2 PSG - Ezequiel Lavezzi

Paris St-Germain are back in front and not long for them to hold on if they are to secure their first league win of the season. Lucas Moura's effort is cleared on the line by Nantes but only to Ezequiel Lavezzi, who smashes the ball into the top corner. Just under 15 minutes left.

  10. 2129:
Serie A in ItalyDISALLOWED GOAL- Napoli 3-0 Bologna

Napoli have dropped down a level with the points in the bag and the intensity of the game has certainly lessened since their third goal. They have the ball in the net again with Dries Mertens stroking home but the 'goal' is ruled out for offside.

  11. 2128:
La Liga Spanish leagueHITS THE WOODWORK- Malaga 0-1 Barcelona

He's only 17 but Cameroon forward Fabrice Olinga has just given Barca an almightly scare. A super counter-attack by the Malaga sees Roque Santa Cruz round Victor Valdes before squaring for Olinga who fires against the post. Credit for former Manchester City striker Santa Cruz for showing great composure. Barca survive.

  12. 2122:
    SUBSTITUTION- Malaga 0-1 Barcelona

Neymar alert. The 21-year-old comes on with almost half an hour remaining and the game becoming more and more bad tempered. Malaga are frustrated. Barca are losing patience with some ill-timed challenges by the hosts.

  13. 2118:
La Liga Spanish leagueHITS THE WOODWORK- Malaga 0-1 Barcelona

A Barca free-kick hits the back of former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique and comes off the top of the Malaga bar. Jeers ring round the ground as Malaga fans believe the match officials failed to spot Pique was in an offside position. Television replays prove they are right. An hour gone at La Rosaleda.

  14. 2113:
French Ligue 1GOAL- Nantes 1-1 PSG - Papy Djilobodji

Nantes have come out strong in the second half and they are level as Papy Djilobodji heads home, although it was PSG's Alex who has the final touch.

  15. 2112:
    CLOSE!- Malaga 0-1 Barcelona

Wilfredo Caballero keeps out a dipping attempt by Barca substitute Dani Alves. He will feel better after that following his error for the goal. Malaga aren't out of this. But it is Barca who look more likely to add to their lead.

  16. 2110:
Serie A in ItalyGOAL- Napoli 3-0 Bologna - Marek Hamsik

Eruption of noise in Napoli as Rafael Benitez's side make it 3-0. Gonzalo Higuain is beaten to a low cross into the area by a defender, who clears only as far as Goran Pandev, who plays the ball into the path of Marek Hamsik and he rifles the ball into the net.

  17. 2107:
La Liga Spanish leagueMalaga 0-1 Barcelona

Barcelona: Adriano was subbed off as a precaution after he picked up a knock to his right thigh. He will undergo further tests tomorrow.

  18. 2105:
    French Ligue 1Nantes 0-1 PSG

The action resumes in Nantes, as Paris St-Germain begin the second half hoping to add to their 1-0 goal advantage. You wouldn't back against them to either, with goalscorer Edinson Cavani and strike partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic causing problems.

  19. 2103:
La Liga Spanish leagueSUBSTITUTION- Malaga 0-1 Barcelona

Having scored his side's goal, Adriano fails to appear after the interval as Dani Alves joins the action in front of a 28,000 crowd. Meanwhile, Neymar settles back into his seat on the substitutes bench.

  20. 2058:
Serie A in ItalyCLOSE!- Napoli 2-0 Bologna

Napoli have indeed continued their dominance and Gonzalo Higuain is agonisingly close to opening his account for Rafael Benitez's side. The hosts win a free kick 25 yards from goal and Higuain has a pop at goal with a curling effort that is just wide.

  21. 2052:
Serie A in ItalyNapoli 2-0 Bologna

Back under way in Naples as Napoli look to pick up from where they left off after an impressive first half display.

  22. 2049:
French Ligue 1HALF-TIME- Nantes 0-1 PSG

All good at the break as far as Paris St-Germain are concerned with Edinson Cavani's goal giving them a slender advantage. Can they record their first league win of the season?

  23. 2048:
La Liga Spanish leagueHALF-TIME- Malaga 0-1 Barcelona

Malaga will be kicking themselves. Having survived a couple of scares and with the interval fast approaching, they concede a sloppy goal which leaves them with everything to do.

Barca have impressed in spells, Cesc Fabregas catching the eye in particular as he enjoys his free role in the absence of the injured Lionel Messi.

  24. 2045:
La Liga Spanish leagueGOAL- Malaga 0-1 Barcelona - Adriano
    Adriano celebrates scoring for Barcelona

Oh dear. Just when I was singing the praises of Wilfredo Caballero, the Malaga keeper allows a long-range shot from Adriano to slip under him and into the net. There were a couple of players in front of Caballero but he should have done better. Barca have the lead. Malaga have a mountain to climb.

  25. 2042:
La Liga Spanish leagueMalaga 0-0 Barcelona

Alexis Sanchez forces a fine save from the Malaga goalkeeper with a header which would not have counted as the Barcelona player is off-side. Still, Wilfredo Caballero was not to know. Five minutes to go until the interval and it's Malaga who are the happier of the two teams even thought Barca have had 75% of the possession.

  26. 2042:
    Serie A in ItalyLatest scores

    Cagliari 1-1 Atalanta

    Lazio 2-0 Udinese

  27. 2035:
    Serie A in ItalyHALF-TIME- Napoli 2-0 Bologna
    Rafael Benitez

Everything is going swimmingly for Rafael Benitez after a very dominant first half performance from his side.

Marek Hamsik and Gonzalo Higuain have looked particularly impressive and it is going to be a big ask for Bologna to get anything from this game.

  28. 2034:
Serie A in ItalyGOAL- Napoli 2-0 Bologna - Marek Hamsik

Marek Hamsik has arguably been the best player on the pitch so far and he is rewarded for his fine display with a goal, rounding the Bologna keeper before knocking the ball into the empty net from a tricky angle.

Tunde Akere: Good one from Callejon, he picks up from where he left off at Real Madrid, just like Benitez also starts from where he left off in Chelsea.

  30. 2032:
La Liga Spanish leagueMalaga 0-0 Barcelona

Sublime stuff from Andres Iniesta on the edge of the Malaga penalty area as the 29-year-old dances past one challenge and then another. Shame about his attempt which is very ordinary and does little to test the home keeper.

Then Malaga win a free-kick 30-yards out and Vitorino Antunes forces Victor Valdes into a save with a clever set-piece which is creeping into the net until the Barca keeper gets his hands to it. This game is warming up.

  31. 2026:
French Ligue 1GOAL- Nantes 0-1 PSG - Edinson Cavani

Edinson Cavani opened his PSG account last weekend and he has picked up from where he left off with another at Nantes.

The former Napoli striker raced on to a ball played down the right from strike partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic and calmly slotted the ball beyond the onrushing goalkeeper.

Jonny Bowering: as Tata Martino said, Neymar is on a programme and won't play 90 minutes until he's finished it. Regardless of Messi's fitness.

  33. 2021:
    La Liga Spanish leagueCLOSE!

Good play by Cesc Fabregas as the former Arsenal player delivers a low cross intended for Alexis Sanchez until Vitorino Antunes makes a vital block. Then Fabregas has a goal-bound header saved by Wilfredo Caballero. Malaga, after a comfortable start, are on the back foot.

  34. 2019:
Serie A in ItalyGOAL- Napoli 1-0 Bologna - Jose Callejon

Perfect start to life in Naples so far for Rafael Benitez as his side take a deserved lead. Marek Hamsik's fine strike from distance is parried by the Bologna keeper, but he can only push the ball into the path of Jose Callejon, who taps in for a debut goal.

  35. 2013:
La Liga Spanish leagueMalaga 0-0 Barcelona

Vicente del Bosque, the Spain manager, is an interested spectator but there has been little to catch his attention so far.

Having hit Levante for seven last week, Barcelona might have to show some patience in La Rosaleda. Very even game so far. Not an awful lot of action in either penalty area.

  36. 2010:
Serie A in ItalyNapoli 0-0 Bologna

Half a chance for Napoli as Marek Hamsik nods the ball across the face of goal where Gonzalo Higuain is lurking, but the one-time Arsenal target is beaten to the ball by a Bologna defender.

  37. 2006:
    French Ligue 1Nantes 0-0 PSG

Under way in Nantes as Paris St-Germain go in search of their first league win of the season.

Lucy_Kites: Honourable mention for Benfica v Gil Vicente. Benfica 1-0 down at 90 minutes, came back to win 2-1.

  39. 2004:
La Liga Spanish leagueMalaga 0-0 Barcelona

First shot of the game comes from. . . Malaga. Javier Mascherano is caught in possession on the edge of his own area and summer signing Fernando Tissone fires over from the edge of the area. Lively start by the hosts.

  40. 2001:
Serie A in ItalyNapoli 0-0 Bologna

Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez will be pleased with his Napoli side's showing so far. They have had Bologna firmly on the back foot and have already gone close to scoring, with Jose Callejon's fine strike hitting the woodwork.

  41. 2000:
La Liga Spanish leagueKICK-OFF- Malaga 0-0 Barcelona

The referee blows his whistle and the game has started at a packed La Rosaleda. No Messi, Neymar's on the bench. Can Malaga spring a surprise?

  42. 1956:
    Portuegese Primeira Liga

Benfica have left Gil Vicente players well and truly stunned in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Vicente were 1-0 up heading into the 90th minute thanks to Diogo Viana but Benfica turned the game on its head as Lazar Markovic equalises in the first minute of stoppage time, before Lima snatches the winner soon after. Great fightback.

  43. 1949:
    Serie A in ItalyKICK-OFF- Napoli 0-0 Bologna

Under way at Napoli as Rafael Benitez's side take on Bologna. The lingering smoke of fireworks fills the air and there certainly is a bit of a party atmosphere as the home fans celebrate the start of a new era.

  44. 1948:
La Liga Spanish leagueFULL-TIME- Atletico Madrid 5-0 Rayo Vallecano

A performance as convincing as the scoreline suggests for Diego Simeone's side. Raul Garcia opened and finished the scoring while Diego Costa, Tiago and Arda Turin also found the net.

Lucy_Kites: Great to see Atletico Madrid starting off well, especially after losing Falcao. They're certainly not short of goals.

  46. 1937:
    Spanish La LigaLatest scores

Radamel who? Atletico Madrid are showing there is life after Falcao as they lead Rayo Vallecano 4-0. Tiago has added another goal to the three Atletico scored in the first half.

  47. 1932:
Malaga's Diego Alonso celebrates a goal against Barcelona with Fernando Sanz (R)

The date is 3 December 2003. The venue is Malaga's La Rosaleda Stadium. Frank Rijkaard is five months into his role as Barcelona manager and a young Rafael Benitez is on the brink of leading Valencia to the La Liga title.

Barcelona line-up with the likes of Patrick Kluivert, Luis Garcia and Marc Overmars. They are promptly embarrassed 5-1 as Salva scores a hat-trick, while Diego Alonso (who is pictured celebrating his goal) and Manuel Canabal also find the target.

Malaga have not beaten Barcelona since. What chances of that changing later?

  48. 1927:
Serie A in ItalyNapoli v Bologna (1945 BST)

Goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who is on loan from Liverpool, starts in Rafael Benitez's first Serie A match in charge of Napoli.

  49. 1925:
    French Ligue 1Nantes v PSG (2000 BST)

How about this for a frightening strike partnership - Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The two start in attack for Paris St-Germain at Nantes (2000 BST).

PSG will certainly be hoping the two can fire them to three points this evening. Laurent Blanc's side are without a win so far this season.

The pair started alongside each other for the first time against Ajaccio last Sunday, when Cavani opened his PSG account with a late equaliser.

Alec Neate: Why spend £50m on Neymar and keep him on the bench?

  51. 1920:
Serie A in ItalyNapoli v Bologna (1945 BST)
    Napoli manager Rafael Benitez

Yes, he delivered the Champions League at Liverpool. Yes, he bowed out at Chelsea by winning the Europa League. But Rafael Benitez has a habit of being a little slow out of the blocks when it comes to starting his managerial reign at a new club.

Napoli's new boss led Liverpool to a 1-1 draw against Tottenham in his first league game in charge of the Reds in August 2004. His first Serie A match as Inter Milan manager ended goalless against Bologna in August 2010. And his first Premier League match as Chelsea's interim boss against Manchester City in November 2012 ended. . . yes, you've guessed it, in a draw.

What chance of Benitez's first Napoli game, again against Bologna, ending in stalemate? We're about to find out.

  52. 1915:

Coming up we have Rafael Benitez's first game in charge of Napoli at home to Bologna in Serie A (1945 BST) as well as Barcelona's game at Malaga in La Liga (2000 BST). There's lots more action across Europe and we will be keeping a close eye on Paris St-Germain, who have yet to win this season and are at Nantes (1945 BST).

Shohidur Rahman: With Messi injured Malaga have a small chance. Don't get Neymar on the bench again. With Messi missing, let him prove himself.

  54. 1909:
La Liga Spanish leagueLINE-UPS- Malaga v Barcelona (2000 BST)

Malaga: Willy, Gamez, Antunes, Sergio Sanchez, Angeleri, Tissone, Camacho, Darder, Santa Cruz, Pawlowski, Fabrice.

Barcelona: Valdes, Adriano, Alba, Pique, Mascherano, Song, Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Alexis Sanchez, Rodriguez.

  55. 1903:
La Liga Spanish leagueBREAKING NEWS- Malaga v Barcelona (2000 BST)

Neymar is named on the Barcelona substitutes bench. Lionel Messi is injured but Cesc Fabregas starts.

Tunde Akere: It will be interesting to see how Benitez will perform with Napoli after his unsuccessful stint in Inter few years ago.

  57. 1855:
    Spanish La LigaLatest scores

The first of four La Liga games this evening is proving to be an absolute cracker. Atletico Madrid are winning 3-0 at home to Rayo Vallecano and it is only half time.

Raul Garcia opened the scoring before Diego Costa added a second and Arda Turan gave the visitors a mountain to climb 10 minutes before the break.

Barcelona kick off at 20:00 BST at Malaga, while Levante host Sevilla and Real Betis take on Celta Vigo.

  58. 1852:
Serie A in ItalyFULL-TIME- Inter Milan 2-0 Genoa

It's all over at the San Siro and Inter Milan have three points. But despite the late flourish, there's work for new manager Walter Mazzarri to do. Lots of work. For long periods this was unconvincing against a Genoa team that only narrowly avoided relegation last season.

Tougher tests await Inter and Mazzarri knows his side have to improve if they are to seriously challenge for the title.

  59. 1850:
Serie A in ItalyGOAL- Inter Milan 2-0 Genoa - Rodrigo Palacio

That seals it. Composed finish by Argentina forward Rodrigo Palacio after a super threaded pass by fellow south American Fredy Guarin. Interhave the points.

Chrstian: Inter desperately need to hit the ground running this year after so many seasons of underachievement.

  61. 1843:
Serie A in ItalyInter Milan 1-0 Genoa

Inter look like a team transformed. The goal has eased the pressure and Andrea Ranocchia forces a fine save with a powerful header following a corner. Moments earlier Mauro Icardi was denied by the woodwork.

  62. 1834:
Serie A in ItalyGOAL- Inter Milan 1-0 Genoa - Yuto Nagamoto

Inter Milan strike 14 minutes from time from an unlikely source as a cross by Brazilian Jonathan is turned over the line from point-blank range by Japanese Yuto Nagatomo. Genoa, who have hardly threatened, have it all to do now.

  63. 1832:
    German BundesligaFULL-TIME

All over at the SGL arena as FC Augsburg beat 10-man Stuttgart 2-1. The home players are all smiles at the final whistle - in sharp contrast to some frustrated Stuttgart faces. They will likely feel aggrieved by Ibrahima Traore's late sending off as that certainly hampered their efforts to find an equaliser. Jan Callsen-Bracker's goal proved decisive.

Elsewhere, Eintracht Frankfurt beat Eintracht Braunshwieg 2-0, with Alexander Meier and Stefan Aigner grabbing the goals.

  64. 1829:
Serie A in ItalyInter Milan 0-0 Genoa

The clock is ticking down and Inter are stepping up the tempo at the San Siro. Substitute Mauro Icardi has looked dangerous since coming on and the he is unfortunate as Ricardo Alvarez's attempted pass is cut out just as the young striker looks set to pounce.

Genoa are still hanging on and are still continuing to frustrate with 20 minutes remaining.

Sewelly: I'm not sure Mazzarri is the man for Inter personally. They need to play the younger players and he rarely does.

  66. 1818:
Serie A in ItalyCLOSE!- Inter Milan 0-0 Genoa

Inter manager Walter Mazzarri is not hanging about. Less than 10 minutes into the second half he sends on 20-year-old striker Mauro Icardi and the new signing from Sampdoria goes close to making an immediate impact.

A pin-point cross by Hugo Campagnaro sees Icardi force a save from 12-yards. Genoa are looking good value for a point, but can they hold out?

  67. 1813:
    German BundesligaLatest scores

Into the last 10 minutes of the game between FC Augsburg and Stuttgart, with the hosts leading 2-1.

There's controversy as Stuttgart are reduced to 10 men when substitute Ibrahima Traore is harshly sent off for a foul. He had only been on the pitch for five minutes.

Keith Thomas: FC Admira are in my hotel lobby ahead of their match against my local side Red Bull Salzburg.

The Austrian Bundesliga clash between the two sides is 10 minutes old and the score is 0-0. Rapid Vienna lost 1-0 at home to Grodig in the other game in the league earlier.

  69. 1805:
Serie A in ItalyInter Milan 0-0 Genoa

Inter's players are back out on the San Siro pitch early. Walter Mazzarri has clearly not minced his words judging by the look on the faces of the home players. This has been a game short of major incident and it has been a slow start for Inter, who have it all to do in the second half which is now underway.

They need to find some quality from somewhere to unlock a determined Genoa defence.

  70. 1800:
    German Bundesliga

Huge blow for Champions League winners Bayern Munich as Thiago Alcantara is ruled out for seven weeks with an ankle injury.

The 22-year-old Spain midfielder will have surgery on Monday after tearing a ligament in his right ankle during Saturday's 2-0 win over Nuremberg. Alcantara joined Bayern from Barcelona in July for £21.6m.

Ankit Chandaria: Cesc to end up at centre-forward for tonight's match. Rather see Neymar play there and move Cesc deeper like versus Levante.

How will Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino adapt his side against Malaga this evening, with the mercurial Lionel Messi out with injury? Let us know, #bbceurofooty

Genoa have been solid at the back. Inter have lacked imagination and look like a side that finished ninth in the table last season.

    Inter Milan v Genoa

Inter's Hugo Campagnaro is wearing a gum shield. Perhaps he is expecting the game to descend into a physical battle, but it's a good decision by the former Napoli player as he falls victim to a nasty challenge just outside the Genoa penalty area. Still goalless as half-time approaches. Still uneventful.

  75. 1735:
    Eredivisie Dutch leagueLatest scores

Feyenoord move off the bottom of the Dutch Eredivisie after claiming their first win of the season - a 3-1 victory over NAC Breda.

Ronaldo Koeman's side have made their worst-ever start to a season following three successive defeats, but they dominated against NAC, with Graziano Pelle scoring an impressive hat-trick.

Elsewhere, Vitesse edged Twente 1-0 thanks to Mike Havenaar's first-half goal, while Utrecht beat AZ 2-0. Finally, nine-man Groningen snatched a 3-3 draw at Go Ahead Eagles, with Genero Zeefuik scoring three minutes from time.

  76. 1730:
Serie A in ItalyInter Milan 0-0 Genoa

Uneventful sums up the opening 30 minutes at the San Siro. Neither goalkeeper has had a serious save to make and Genoa, who finished 17th in the table last season, will be happy with their start.

Then out of nowhere Inter's Brazilian defender Jonathan hits the ball across Genoa's six-yard area but there is no dark blue shirt to make a connection.

Cameron R L Smith: I don't know why everyone says Barca are rubbish without Messi!? Neymar, Xavi, Iniesta and Sanchez are top class attackers!

  78. 1721:
    French Ligue 1Latest scores

Paris St-Germain are in action later on Sunday but there are some scores from elsewhere in Ligue 1 to catch up on. Lille have won 1-0 at home to Saint-Etienne, who drop their first points of the season.

Former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou scored the game's only goal, converting from the spot in the 37th minute as he sent Saint-Etienne goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier the wrong way.

Elsewhere, the second half of the game between Ajaccio and Nice has just got under way, and it is currently goalless.

  79. 1718:
Serie A in ItalyInter Milan 0-0 Genoa

Inter's starting line-up includes six South Americans including 33-year-old Argentina midfielder Esteban Cambiasso, who is making his 400th appearance for the club since joining from Real Madrid in 2004.

  80. 1712:
Serie A in ItalyInter Milan 0-0 Genoa

The sun is shining in Milan and Inter have made a lively start. Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin does well to get down to cut out a low cross by Fredy Guarin. It already looks as though it is going to be a long afternoon for Genoa's defence.

  81. 1707:
    French Ligue 1

I'll also have updates from Ligue 1, where Paris St-Germain are looking for their first win in three games this season. Laurent Blanc's side are already seven points behind early leaders Marseille after drawing their opening two games with Montpellier and Ajaccio 1-1, and need a win at Nantes. Kick-off at the Stade de la Beaujoire is at 2000 BST.

  82. 1701:
Serie A in ItalyKICK-OFF- Inter Milan 0-0 Genoa

We're underway at a noisy and vibrant San Siro. It is by no means full but there is optimism that new manager Walter Mazzarri can revive the fortunes of three-times European champions.

Serie A in ItalyInter Milan v Genoa (1700 BST)

Inter Milan: Handanovic, Jesus, Ranocchia, Campagnaro, Jonathan, Guarin, Kuzmanovic,, Cambiasso, Nagatomo, Alvarez, Palacio.

Genoa: Perin, Lodi, Gilardino, Antonelli, Cofie, Santana, Vrsaljko, Manfredini, Kucka, Portanova, Bertolacci.

This isn't going to be as much fun without your involvement so share your thoughts on all things European football. Will Barcelona retain their La Liga crown?

Bayern Munich took full advantage of a Barca side missing Lionel Messi in last season's Champions League. Can Malaga do the same? Is there life for Barca beyond the Argentina international?

  85. 1652:
Serie A in ItalyNEW MAN AT THE TOP- Inter Milan v Genoa
    Inter Milan manager Walter Mazzarri

But the first game of the day in Italy sees Inter Milan open their league campaign at home to Genoa at 1700 BST.

Inter are a shadow of the team that won the Champions League under Jose Mourinho in the 2009-10 campaign. Last season they finished ninth in the table which prompted Andrea Stramaccioni's departure - and the arrival of former Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri.

Manchester City fans remember Mazzarri for the stylish bomber jacket he donned on the touchline at the Etihad Stadium during a Champions League tie two years ago. Inter fans won't care what he wears as long as he delivers silverware to the San Siro. There's just enough time for you to put the kettle on and make a cuppa before kick-off.

Welcome to our latest offering of European football. As well as La Liga, I'll be keeping across all the action in Italy where there are some familiar faces eager to make an instant impression on the opening weekend of the season - none more so than at Napoli.

Rafael Benitez is looking to add to his impressive CV - which includes a Champions League triumph with Liverpool and a Europa League success at Chelsea - by securing silverware for last season's Serie A runners-up. And the Spaniard has secured the services of a trusted face to help him do just that in the shape of goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who is on loan from Liverpool.

Napoli against Bologna is just one of seven games today. Other fixtures include: Torino v Sassuolo, Cagliari v Atalanta, Lazio v Udinese, Livorno v AS Roma and Parma v Chievo.

  87. 1645:
    La Liga Spanish league
    Barcelona forward Lionel Messi

It is not that long ago that Jamie Redknapp, the former Liverpool and England midfielder, described Barcelona without Lionel Messi as 'like watching the Rolling Stones without Mick Jagger being there'. Well, it's the second week of the new La Liga campaign and Barca are indeed without their poster boy.

Bruising to the 26-year-old's left thigh means he sits out the game at Malaga (2000 BST), but is there life beyond Messi? Can Neymar and Cesc Fabregas rise to the top of the bill in Messi's absence?

Or will the Spanish champions suffer a sudden bout of stage fright like they did when they were without Messi for the second leg of last season's Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich? We're about to find out.
