Paris Cowan-Hall got Wycombe off to a winning start in League Two with a debut goal at Morecambe.
The 22-year-old headed in a pinpoint cross by Dean Morgan, who had wrong-footed Morecambe's Chris McCready.
McCready nearly made amends before the break but his header hit the bar.
Morgan then had two second-half chances to put the result beyond doubt but he squandered both, dragging wide from 15 yards before being denied by keeper Barry Roche.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth told BBC Three Counties:
"The first half was one of the best halves since I took charge here.
"Paris Cowan-Hall has got all the tools to be a fantastic player, and I think one of the big tools to have is somebody believing in you. I believe in that boy I think he can go onto big things.
"Whatever we're practising, the lads are listening; they're backing me and I'm backing them. Hopefully we can have a good relationship throughout the season.
"We won't win every game, but if we play like that we'll win more than we lose."
