Darren Carter: Adie Boothroyd key to Northampton Town move
Northampton signing Darren Carter says boss Adie Boothroyd was the standout reason behind him signing for the club.
The 29-year-old midfielder will join the Cobblers in August after his deal with League Two rivals Cheltenham ends.
Darren Carter on the impact of Adie Boothroyd
“There was a lot of talk from clubs higher up but Adie did everything to show he was desperate to get me here”
"Adie's enthusiasm is so infectious that he makes it really difficult to say no," he told BBC Radio Northampton.
"We first spoke right at the start of the summer and he just kept contacting me. He's someone I've always kept tabs on and is the big reason why I'm here."
Carter joined Cheltenham in 2012 after a year out of football and scored six goals in 38 appearances at Whaddon Road.
His deal with Northampton will mean consecutive seasons of League Two football having previously never played below England's second tier in his 11-year career.
"I made the decision very quickly that I was leaving Cheltenham and there was a lot of talk from clubs higher [in the Football League] but never anything concrete," he added.
"Meanwhile, Adie was doing everything to show he was desperate to get me here and I am delighted to have signed."
