Mansfield Town: Paul Cox keen to sign a young keeper
Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox says he wants to sign a young goalkeeper to add competition for Alan Marriott in the upcoming League Two campaign.
Marriott, who signed a one-year deal this week, helped the Stags to the Conference Premier title last season.
Cox said: "We're looking at a number of young goalkeepers at the minute, but most Football League contracts don't end until 30 June.
"But I'm looking to bring in another keeper who can add competition."
Marriott's new deal was followed by the signing of defender Martin Riley, who only left the Stags for Wrexham last summer.
"They're two excellent signings and the squad is looking strong now," added Cox.
"Riles [Riley] is back and I'm over the moon. He's a player that I'm looking forward to squeezing an extra 20 to 30% out of next season.
"It's a fantastic signing for us and it makes the competition at centre-back very competitive."
"Maz [Marriott], since I've been at the club, has been excellent and a different class both on and off the pitch."
Meanwhile, Cox confirmed that George Pilkington and Godfrey Poku have been made available for loan or transfer, while defenders John Dempster and Ryan Tafazolli are expected to sign new contracts,
