Plymouth Argyle youngster Ben Purrington signs pro contract

Plymouth Argyle have signed 17-year-old academy player Ben Purrington to a professional contract.

The Exeter-born left-back is midway through a two-year scholarship and will now link up with the rest of the club's first team when they return for pre-season training.

Purrington has been with the club since he was nine years old and has impressed manager John Sheridan.

"I really liked the way Ben plays," Sheridan said of the defender.

"I said to the kid 'your age doesn't bother me, if you keep playing like that, you'll be putting it in my mind that you're good enough and you could to be involved'," Sheridan added.

Puttington joins Matt LeCointe, Luke Young, Curtis Nelson and Tyler Harvey, who have also progressed from the club's youth ranks into the current first-team squad.
