Mark McChrystal: Bristol Rovers defender signs new deal

Defender Mark McChrystal has signed a new contract with Bristol Rovers.

The 28-year-old Northern Irishman signed a short-term deal in January and has now committed to another two years, with the option of a further year based on appearances.

McChrystal has played 21 games for League Two Rovers this season.

"We are aiming to try and improve things here, and he is an important part of the jigsaw," manager John Ward told the club website.

"We are a young squad, and Mark gives us that seniority and experience, and I am sure [defender and captain] Tom Parkes would be the first person to say he has benefitted from playing alongside Mark."

The former Northern Ireland Under-21 captain began his career at Wolves, but returned to his homeland to sign for Derry City.

He went on to have spells at Partick Thistle, Lisburn Distillery, Tranmere and Scunthorpe.
