Cameroon to start recruitment process to replace Akono
Cameroon have begun the process to recruit a permanent coach for the Indomitable Lions.
However incumbent Jean-Paul Akono has stated he will not be applying.
He was installed as interim coach last September as the replacement for Denis Lavagne and has been working without a contract since then.
Sports minister, Adoum Garoua, has asked the Cameroon Football Federation to draw up a short-list for the position.
There have been arguments that the correct procedure was not followed when Akono was given the job and that this is why he hasn't signed a contract.
Akono is believed to be seeking payment of around US$30,000 per month, which is another stumbling block with the federation unlikely to pay those kind of wages.
His decision not to apply may have also been influenced by the stance of national team's kit sponsor Puma.
The sportswear manufacturer have made it known they believe the present technical staff should be changed and have even gone so far as to propose their own candidate for the post.
