Two late goals saw Fenerbahce beat 10-man Lazio 2-0 in the first leg of their Europa League quarter final.
Pierre Webo put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot on 79 minutes after Stefan Radu had handled in the area.
Dirk Kuyt pounced on a rebound from Caner Erkin's free-kick in injury time to extend the Turkish side's lead.
Lazio were on the back foot after Ogenyi Onazi was dismissed for a second booking having hauled down Cristian Baroni early in the second half.
Fenerbahce will defend their lead in Rome boasting an unbeaten record in six away games in the Europa League this season - they have won four and drawn two.
The hosts were looking to make the most of home advantage in the first leg as they sought a first ever appearance in the semi-finals of a European competition.
With the tie's second leg due to be played
behind closed doors in Rome following incidents of crowd trouble involving their fans,
Lazio would have been keen to get a positive result away from home.
But in a low-key first half there were few openings, with the home team's Moussa Sow coming closest to scoring when he struck the post in the 17th minute.
Onazi's sending-off changed the complexion of the game and Fenerbahce almost immediately capitalised, with former Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder Raul Meireles hitting an upright from the edge of the area shortly afterwards.
Lazio keeper Federico Marchetti made fine saves to deny Webo and Sow to keep the home side at bay, until the deadlock was broken with 11 minutes to go.
Scottish referee William Collum pointed to the spot when Radu handled Erkin's corner, and Marchetti was finally beaten when Webo drilled the ball low into the left-hand corner.
Former Liverpool striker Kuyt took advantage of Marchetti's parry to drive the ball high into the net in stoppage time, leaving the Italian side much to do in an empty Stadio Olimpico next week.
