Alfreton Town pulled five points clear of the Blue Square Bet Premier relegation zone thanks to a comfortable win over fellow strugglers Southport.

The visitors led within two minutes through Anton Brown's 20-yard curler.

And they were 2-0 up by the break when Danny Meadows headed into an empty net after a defensive mix-up.

Southport, who are now just one point and one place outside of the bottom four, went close to pulling a goal back when Andy Parry's strike hit the post.
