A superb chip from Jack Midson handed AFC Wimbledon victory over fellow League Two strugglers Aldershot Town.
The 29-year-old beautifully lofted the ball over Shots keeper Jamie Young with less than 20 minutes remaining.
Dons stopper John Sullivan had a busy afternoon saving a cross-shot from Lionel Ainsworth which Craig Reid then failed to convert from close range.
After the break Sullivan tipped another Ainsworth shot onto the post and then denied substitute Jeff Goulding.
It was Wimbledon's third successive victory, which lifts them five points clear of the relegation zone.
Aldershot, meanwhile, slip into the bottom two on goal difference.
The Hampshire side have played a game more than the four teams around them, who are all on 40 points.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Aldershot Town boss Andy Scott told BBC Surrey:
"When you're down the bottom, mistakes cost you. Unfortunately it has cost us today. They've benefited from it and it's a big blow. We've still got to get a certain number of points so we've got to focus.
"We had a few good opportunities but we should have created more. We just made a mistake and we couldn't force our way back after that.
"When you're down the bottom you get punished for things so it's about sticking together. If we get pressure from elsewhere we've got to cope as a group."
AFC Wimbledon boss Neil Ardley told BBC London 94.9:
"It's been a good week. I knew it would be a heavy and scrappy game due to the pitch, and that had an effect on our team selection and we had to dig in to put in that type of battling performance.
"We defended well as a team and I thought it would take something special or unusual to unlock us.
"I thought Alan Bennett was outstanding - he was immense for us."
