Ugly scenes.

Lovely goal.

-
Steve Claridge, BBC Final ScoreWigan 0-1 Liverpool"The Wigan scoreline is going QPR's way. This really does seem to be their day. If Wigan lose this game, Rangers are just four points from safety. It's a huge three points and the reaction at the end of the game from Harry Redknapp said everything."
-
1742:MANAGER REACTION- Man Utd 4-0 Norwich
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson: "He [Kagawa] is a good finisher. His injury in October, November set him back a bit, but he's getting his form back slowly and gradually. His second and third, in particular, were terrific.
"Ryan Giggs will be involved against Real Madrid, no doubt about it. It's a great moment, a great example for all young players to reach 1,000 games as a professional.

-
1735:Wigan 0-1 Liverpool
The home fans have been stunned into silence by that, only Stewart Downing's second league goal for Liverpool. Canny movement from Downing as well, he lost his defender nicely in the middle before heading home. Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez: "There were a lot of positives. The reception from the crowd was quite good. I wanted everybody to stick together."

1727:MANAGER REACTION- Southampton 1-2 QPR
QPR boss Harry Redknapp: "It was a big result for us, it's a difficult place to come and Southampton are a good team, but that's what you get when you all work hard. I picked 11 players to work hard and when you work hard you get your rewards.
"Loic Remy looked sharp off the right and took his goal well. It's just a case of getting him fit. Jay Bothroyd has not had many opportunities, I played him today and he did well.
"I don't see Southampton getting sucked into a relegation battle. They are a good side, although you never know."
-
1726:Wigan v Liverpool (1730 GMT)

If Rangers can put another win again with this they could really be back in the mix."
-

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers makes one change from the team that went out of the Europa League on away goals to Zenit St Petersburg as Philippe Coutinho comes in for Jordan Henderson. Elsewhere, striker Daniel Sturridge misses out with a thigh injury.

Lisa from London: "Much better atmosphere at the Bridge today. Make no mistake how much we Chelsea fans love and support out team. Make no mistake though how much we hate Benitez! C'mon the Blues."
Luke in Manchester: "Re Phil in Windsor (1652): You're not protesting against your owner though are you? You're slaughtering your manager. Big difference!"
Jamie from Northwood: "Man Utd and Liverpool protested because we didn't want to be saddled with massive debts. Chelsea fans are protesting because Benitez said something mean about their team five years ago. Chelsea fans need to grow up and support their team rather than waste time abusing Benitez. He'll be gone soon."
-
1709:MANAGER REACTION- Sunderland 2-2 Fulham
Fulham boss Martin Jol: "In hindsight we controlled the first half but of course the penalty situation changed the course of the game. After that Sunderland smelt blood and had their confidence back. But I still feel it wasn't a penalty kick. If you give that, you have to give four or five in every game.
"Don't forget, we should have made it 3-1 and put it to bed. We did ever so well in the first half, we controlled the game and dominated them. I'm not happy with one point.
"We were the better team, it should have been a win. All these teams look behind them (in the table), everyone could be dragged into it."

-
1702:THE BIGGER PICTURE
Let's take a look at what today's results mean for the Premier League table, starting from the bottom.
QPR remain rooted to the basement but are now only four points adrift of safety after a much-needed 2-1 victory at Southampton on manager Harry Redknapp's 66th birthday. Jay Bothroyd struck the crucial winner as QPR made up ground on second-bottom Reading who lost 3-1 at Everton and are a point behind Aston Villa who currently occupy the other relegation spot.
That means fourth-bottom Wigan have a chance to draw level with 16th-placed Southampton if they can overcome Liverpool in the late game. Newcastle are three points better off but not entirely out of trouble after their 1-0 defeat to Swansea while West Ham are nine points clear of danger after an impressive 1-0 win at Stoke.
At the top, Manchester United are now 15 points clear of Manchester City after Shinji Kagawa-inspired 4-0 win over Norwich with City not in action until they face Villa on Monday. Rafa Benitez's Chelsea are back up to third thanks to an uneventful 1-0 victory against West Brom. Remember fourth-placed Tottenham face Arsenal, who are fifth, on Sunday. In the day's other match, mid-table Fulham earned a 2-2 draw at Sunderland.

1654:FULL-TIME- Man Utd 4-0 Norwich
-
1653:BBC Sport's Spanish football writer Andy West:FULL-TIME- Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona
"A great win for Real Madrid to further boost their confidence ahead of Tuesday's colossal clash at Old Trafford. It could have been even more emphatic because Ronaldo crashed a free kick against the upright inside the final five minutes. Things are getting desperate for Barca, who have now lost three big games in the last fortnight and had Victor Valdes sent off after the final whistle."

-
1649:GOAL- Man Utd 4-0 Norwich - Wayne Rooney (90 mins)
A peach. A pearler. A jaffa.
Wayne Rooney adds a cherry on to the top of Manchester United's cake with a dipping, curling effort from 25 yards which flies in. Brilliant.
-
1648:GREAT SAVE!- Southampton 1-2 QPR
Amazing save from QPR reserve keeper Robert Green as he dives to keep out Maya Yoshida's header from a corner with a one-handed stop!
That is a massive save.
-
1646:GOAL- Man Utd 3-0 Norwich - Shinji Kagawa (87 mins)
What was that Juergen Klopp was saying?
Shinji Kagawa rounds off the win with his hat-trick, running on to Wayne Rooney's pass to clip into the roof of the net in stylish fashion.
-
1645:GREAT SAVE!- Chelsea 1-0 West Brom
Petr Cech saves from Peter Odemwingie then produces an outstanding block to prevent Cesar Azpilicueta from heading into his own net.
Almost a disastrous ending for Chelsea.
-

-
1645:
Robbie Savage, BBC Final ScoreSwansea 1-0 Newcastle"Davide Santon tried to duck the ball but it hits him on the face. Luke Moore's effort trickled over the line, but excellent, cool play by Moore."
-
1643:GET INVOLVED
Dave Cassells: "Kagawa has been very impressive today. Definite starter against Madrid on Tuesday."
Christopher Hall: "Excellent, selfless assist from Rooney. Top team player once again. Kagawa's finish was a five-a-side tap in."

-
1643:LEAGUE TWO UPDATE
Exeter are 10 minutes away from moving to within one point of the automatic promotion places as they are winning 2-0 at home to Northampton while third-placed Burton are 3-0 down against Bristol Rovers.
-
1642:BBC Sport's Spanish football writer Andy West:GOAL- Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona - Sergio Ramos (81 mins)
"The hosts are back ahead through Sergio Ramos, who rose to meet a corner from Luka Modric and send a superb header into the far corner. It had been coming - a few minutes earlier Alvaro Morata missed a great chance after being played through by Pepe. Real are on the brink of a morale-boosting Clasico win to send them off to Old Trafford in high spirits."
-
1642:GOAL- Everton 3-1 Reading - Hal Robson-Kanu (84 mins)
A cracking header, but it's no more than a consolation as winger Hal Robson-Kanu smashes in to the roof of the net. Unstoppable.
-
1641:GOAL- Swansea 1-0 Newcastle - Luke Moore (85 mins)
This has to be filed as a terrible goal. Swansea have scored plenty of beauties this season, but this one would be left in the dark on a night out. Rank.
Horrible defending sees five Newcastle players fail to deal with a cross, Luke Moore gets a foot in but then totally shanks his shot and it bobbles in, just about reaching the net.
-
1641:
QPR have only won two games all season. Are they about to make it three?
We have 10 minutes left...
-
1640:
Steve Claridge, BBC Final ScoreSouthampton 1-2 QPR"Not great defending again from Southampton. Yoshida went across, never made his tackle, Park puts a fantastic ball in with time and space and Bothroyd is there for a simple tap-in. What an important goal. That makes a few of the teams above them a little bit more nervous as regards the rest of the season."
-
1639:
Robbie Savage, BBC Final ScoreMan Utd 2-0 Norwich"What a cool, cool finish from Kagawa. And he played well in Madrid, so I think he may get a start in midweek."
-
1638:GOAL- Southampton 1-2 QPR - Jay Bothroyd (77 mins)
Now then! This could be a massive goal!
The industry of Park Ji-sung sees him win the ball high up the park, he gets his head up and picks out Jay Bothroyd inside the six-yard box and Bothroyd does not miss those. A tap in.
-
1637:LEAGUE ONE UPDATE
Colchester look odds-on to escape from the relegation zone as they lead 2-0 against Stevenage thanks to a double from Jabo Ibehre with less than 20 minutes to go.

Up at the other end, Newcastle keeper Rob Elliott has had a quiet afternoon but he is alert to deny Ki Sung-yueng with a shot on the turn.
-
1636:GOAL- Man Utd 2-0 Norwich - Shinji Kagawa (76 mins)
The definition of composure. Seconds after Kei Kamara almost bundles his way through for Norwich, United hit them on the break. Michael Carrick clips a pass over the top for Wayne Rooney and he squares for Shinji Kagawa, who does Mark Bunn with the eyes and just passes the ball home.
-
1635:SUBSTITUTION- Man Utd 1-0 Norwich
Fresh from scoring his first Premier League goal in Norwich's win against Everton last weekend, Kei Kamara comes off the bench to replace Wes Hoolahan as the visitors push for an equaliser at Manchester United. Kamara, who is on loan from MLS side Kansas City, scored the winner against United for his parent club in pre-season tour.
A Norwich fan wrote a song about him after that goal. If he nets at Old Trafford he'll write a play...

Phil Arundell: "Chelsea looking much more lively today with the return of the white ball. Coincidence maybe, but it happens every year!"
-
1632:Southampton 1-1 QPR
Bad news for QPR as goalkeeper Julio Cesar is clutching at his hamstring. He does not look comfortable at all as he spills a routine shot from range.
Loic Remy then threatens for Rangers but his shot is well blocked.
-
1631:BBC Sport's Spanish football writer Andy West:EL CLASICO UPDATE- Real Madrid 1-1 Barcelona
"Real Madrid have been transformed by Cristiano Ronaldo's introduction and are now looking the more threatening side. The Portuguese ace forced Victor Valdes into a good save from a trademark thunderbolt free-kick and fired another shot into the side-netting. Other than that it's been scrappy, with six yellow cards awarded in less than 20 minutes."
-
1630:GREAT SAVE!- Swansea 0-0 Newcastle
Newcastle are all over Swansea now. Michel Vorm flys to his left to keep out Moussa Sissoko's shot before Mathieu Debuchy volleys wide from a left-wing cross.

1629:GET INVOLVED
Raj: "The people making these banners just want to get on TV. A real protest would be not to turn up to the game, like other clubs' fans have done. The Champions of Europe should be example setters."
Dom in Leeds: "Must be said that the referee at Stoke is having a great game, refusing to be won over by the raucous Stoke fans who are appealing for anything and everything."
Adam: "Is there a current law that dictates whenever a player scores you have to print a tweet of someone elongating said players name in a shouty manner?"
No there isn't, Adaaaaaaaaaaam...

With just under 30 minutes to go, Cristiano Ronaldo comes on for Real Madrid along with Germany international Sami Khedira.
-
1629:LEAGUE ONE UPDATE
The big game of the day in League One is being edged by Yeovil as Edward Upson puts them 1-0 up against fellow automatic promotion hopefuls Tranmere.
It is not proving to be a great day for the other sides in the play-off places as Swindon are down 1-0 at Coventry and Brentford are drawing 0-0 against Scunthorpe.
-
1629:
Steve Claridge, BBC Final ScoreEverton 3-0 Reading"I think Kevin Mirallas is a great player. Everton have been very good today, no doubt about that."
-
1626:GOAL- Sunderland 2-2 Fulham - Stephane Sessegnon (70 mins)
Remember that counter-attacking textbook I mentioned earlier? Sunderland steal a leaf from it.
Simon Mignolet saves from Dimitar Berbatov with his ankles and Sunderland attack brilliantly. Stephane Sessegnon runs downfield, plays the ball out to Adam Johnson and when his cross deflects away, Sessegnon gets there first to fire in with his left foot. Cracking comeback.
-
1626:
BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Stamford Bridge:"After 65 minutes chants of 'Jose Mourinho' echo around Stamford Bridge - just as Benitez is booed as he catches the ball."
-
1625:HITS THE WOODWORK- Swansea 0-0 Newcastle
Yohan Cabaye rattles the Swansea crossbar with a thunderous shot from 20 yards, though Michel Vorm did well to get his fingertips to the ball.
-
1624:GOAL- Everton 3-0 Reading - Kevin Mirallas (66 mins)
Clinical, clinical stuff from Everton. Steven Pienaar dissects the Reading backline with a killer through-pass, Kevin Mirallas runs in on goal and sweeps past Stuart Taylor at his near post. The Belgian needed a goal, but Reading need a miracle now.
-
1622:SITTER!- Man Utd 1-0 Norwich
Russell Martin - look away now! He shins over a contender for miss of the season, smashing over the crossbar from four yards after Grant Holt headed the ball down.
It wouldn't have counted as Holt was flagged for offside, but nobody knew that at the time. A howler...

Another injury blow for Southampton as Danny Fox is forced off the pitch and replaced by Luke Shaw. Injuries, injuries, they've all got injuries this afternoon...
-
1619:
Robbie Savage, BBC Final ScoreEverton 2-0 Reading"A fantastic strike from Steve Pienaar for Everton. Jobi McAnuff doesn't do enough to close him down I don't think, and Pienaar smashes it into the top corner."
-
1617:BBC Sport's Spanish football writer Andy West:EL CLASICO UPDATE- Real Madrid 1-1 Barcelona
"It's been a quiet start to the second half in the Bernabeu with no clear chances, although Barca are doing most of the pressing. But that might be about to change because Jose Mourinho has just introduced Sami Khedira and Cristiano Ronaldo from the bench. The biggest cheer of the day came when Ronaldo emerged to warm up, and things should certainly liven up now."
-
1617:GOAL- Everton 2-0 Reading - Steven Pienaar (59 mins)
Oh lovely, lovely stuff. Marouane Fellaini plays the ball out to Steven Pienaar on the right and he hares in on goal, backing up Ian Harte into the penalty area before smashing a left-footed drive into the roof of the net. Pick that one out.
-
1616:Everton 1-0 Reading
Having broken the deadlock with an excellent header, Marouane Fellaini is so close to sealing the points for Everton but his goal bound attempt from close range is blocked by Ian Harte. Reading are hanging on at Goodison Park.
-
1615:CLOSE!- Southampton 1-1 QPR
Southampton playing some lovely stuff now and again it's substitute Jay Rodriguez who poses a threat, curling a lifted shot on to the roof of the net from 20 yards.
-
1614:Swansea 0-0 Newcastle
Newcastle are growing into the game. First there's a great chance for Papiss Cisse who fires a dipping left-foot shot over the bar from 20 yards, before strike partner Yoan Gouffran side foots a shot over the bar at the end of a flowing move.
-
1614:GET INVOLVED
Chris Lunny: "The Chelsea A4 brigade are pathetic."
David Lewis: "Wonder if Rafa would prefer any of these to "interim"? Acting, improvised, intervening, makeshift, stopgap, thrown-together..."
Leod Lennon: "Norwich managed 45% of possession, 0 shots, 0 corners and 10 fouls in the first half. A pity."
-
1613:LEAGUE TWO UPDATE
Bottom-placed Plymouth began the second half with a bang as Ronan Murray puts them 2-1 up against Barnet. Relegation rivals Aldershot could get a memorable result as they are winning 1-0 against leaders Gillingham.
-
1612:Chelsea 1-0 West Brom
Oscar swings another cross into the area and finds Demba Ba, four yards from goal. The former Newcastle striker controls the ball but his effort is blocked by Ben Foster.
-
1611:CLOSE!- Southampton 1-1 QPR
Cracking effort from Saints defender Jose Fonte, who collects the loose ball after a set-piece is half cleared and smashes in a shot from 22 yards but it i just wide. That had Julio Cesar worried though.
-
1609:Man Utd 1-0 Norwich
Borussia Dortmund boss Juergen Klopp said on Football Focus earlier that we would start to see just how good Shinji Kagawa is in the next few months. The Japanese playmaker has been everywhere today, drifting into the centre from his station out on the left. Norwich are not out of this one yet though as they force their first corner.

1606:Chelsea 1-0 West Brom
Frank Lampard almost has his 200th goal for Chelsea as he converts Juan Mata's pass -but the offside flag was long since raised.
-
1605:CLOSE!- Sunderland 1-2 Fulham
Danny Graham probably should have pulled Sunderland level on his first home start for the Black Cats, the ball lands to him 10 yards out but his shot is easily kept out by Mark Schwarzer.
-
1605:
Robbie Savage, BBC Final ScoreChelsea 1-0 West Brom"What type of person sits at home, makes a banner and takes it to a game? I'd never have done it..."
-
1605:CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
I dread to think what the atmosphere was like in that half-time team talk by Blackburn manager Michael Appleton with his side losing 3-0 at home to bottom side Peterborough. The ex-Blackpool boss reacts by making three changes at the break, with David Jones, Adam Henley and Cameron Stewart coming on for Danny Murphy, David Bentley and Bradley Orr.
As it stands, it will be the second 3-0 defeat in a week for Rovers.
-
1604:GREAT SAVE!- Swansea 0-0 Newcastle
What a start for the Swans! They release Angel Rangel into the penalty area with some smart, trademark passing but the right-back's powerful drive is well saved by Rob Elliot.

The second half at the Bernabeu is under way.

1603:KICK-OFF
Back under way around the land...

1600:
Wigan midfielder James McArthur: "Massive game for us today against Liverpool. Three points and push up the table would be nice."
-
1600:
MOTD's Guy Mowbray at the DW StadiumWigan v Liverpool (1730 GMT)"Wigan's habitual inconsistency sees them in the bottom five after 27 games for the fourth season in a row. Last week's win at fellow strugglers Reading was huge, and took Wigan to a healthy four points better off than they were this time a year ago. Where Liverpool have been consistent this season is in dealing with the lesser lights of the Premier League - a record of W9 D2 L1 against bottom-half teams is bettered only by Manchester United."
-
1600:
One game still to come of course...
-
1559:
We had goals everywhere except Swansea in that 45 minutes of Premier League action. As Bradford can testify though, the Swans are more than capable of clicking through the gears after the break.
-
1557:SCOTTISH FOOTBALL UPDATE
It's goalless in a tense Highland derby where Ross County host Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Don't forget, these teams are pushing Motherwell hard for the runners-up place in the Scottish Premier League. The charged atmosphere might explain David Raven and Iain Vigurs going head to head, which triggered big Terry Butcher, the Inverness boss, and his County counterpart Derek Adams squaring up to one another. Motherwell, meanwhile are enjoying a 2-0 half-time lead at troubled Hearts, who have Gary Locke as interim manager following the departure of John McGlynn in midweek. The Steelmen's goals came in the opening 10 minutes from Michael Higdon and a Dylan McGowan own-goal. In the second Scottish Cup quarter-final, Falkirk have Blair Alston to thank for their 1-0 advantage at Hamilton.
-
1557:
Statisticians Opta: "West Ham's goal was only their ninth away strike of the season. Only hosts Stoke (8) have scored fewer on the road."
-
1556:BIGGER PICTURE
Time for a breather and a glance at the overall situation at half-time in the Premier League.
Manchester United are on course to extend their lead at the top to 15 points after Shinji Kagawa put them ahead in first-half injury time against Norwich. The Chelsea boo-boys have been at least temporarily silenced at Stamford Bridge where the Blues lead 1-0 against West Brom thanks to Demba Ba's close-range goal.
At the bottom, QPR went ahead early on against the run of play at Southampton through Loic Remy but were pegged back on the stroke of half-time when Gaston Ramirez levelled. Relegation rivals Reading trail 1-0 to Marouane Fellaini's goal at Everton.
Elsewhere, Fulham are 2-1 up at Sunderland while West Ham scored just before half-time through Jack Collison to lead 1-0 at Stoke City and it's goalless between Swansea and Newcastle.
-

Jonny, a Norwich supporter at Old Trafford: "Once again the referee is in United's back pocket! Norwich have been poor though."
James: "The ref is having a shocker at The Liberty - allowing Tiote and Cabaye to get away with several dirty challenges and only a yellow each. Not a great debut."
-
1555:CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
Judging by his first half performance, there seems nothing wrong with George Boyd's eyesight as his double helps Hull to a 3-0 lead against Birmingham. The goals are his first for his new club.
-
1554:
MOTD's Simon Brotherton at the Liberty StadiumHALF-TIME- Swansea 0-0 Newcastle"A frustrating first half for Alan Pardew and Newcastle. Ashley Williams went closest for Swansea City but his effort was cleared off the line and Garry Monk had a good headed opportunity but put it over. Newcastle have struggled at times with the speed and passing of Swansea City. All to play for in the second half."
-
1554:
MOTD's Steve Wilson at Old TraffordHALF-TIME- Man Utd 1-0 Norwich"Robin van Persie had a touch on the way, Shinji Kagawa with the finish, but Norwich goalkeeper Mark Bunn will be disappointed at being beating by that. Manchester United utterly dominated possession and found the goal."

1552:
MOTD's Ian Dennis at the Stadium of LightHALF-TIME- Sunderland 1-2 Fulham"Mark Halsey's decision to award Fulham a penalty angered many within the Stadium of Light. -
1550:HALF-TIME
That's half-time everywhere. We've gone goal mad.
-
1549:BBC Sport's Spanish football writer Andy West:HALF-TIME- Real Madrid 1-1 Barcelona
"There's been little sign of another goal since Messi equalised, although the Argentine had another chance that he curled too close to Diego Lopez after receiving David Villa's pass. Barca are controlling possession as Madrid sit deep and soak up the pressure, but their counter-attacking style isn't carrying the same punch with Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria all absent."
-
1548:GOAL- Stoke 0-1 West Ham - Jack Collison (45 mins)
Two substitutes combine to stroke West Ham into the lead. Ricardo Vaz Te jinks into danger before feeding a pass into the stride of Jack Collison, and the Wales midfielder finds the bottom corner.
-
1548:LEAGUE TWO UPDATE
Barnet are making steady progress up the table since Edgar Davids's arrival as player-manager and they are currently drawing 1-1 at bottom-placed Plymouth as Conor Hourihane levels up for the hosts.
At the other end of the division, leaders Gillingham are being held at Aldershot, Port Vale are drawing 1-1 at Oxford and Burton are losing 1-0 to Bristol Rovers.
-
1546:GOAL- Man Utd 1-0 Norwich - Shinji Kagawa (45 mins)
Manchester United's pressure finally tells as Antonio Valencia's right-wing cross is stabbed down by Robin van Persie and slotted home on the volley by Shinji Kagawa.
-
1546:GOAL- Southampton 1-1 Queens Park Rangers - Gaston Ramirez (45 mins)
Substitute Jay Rodriguez has an instant impact, turning away from a defender and smashing in a rising drive which Julio Cesar doesn't deal with, he rather shovels it back into the danger zone. Gaston Ramirez is onside and gets there first, and produces the deftest of deftest touches to dink a chip back over Cesar's head and into the net. Brilliant.
-
1545:SUBSTITUTION- Southampton 0-1 Queens Park Rangers
Another one to add to today's growing list of crocks. Southampton captain Adam Lallana limps off after a clash of heads with QPR defender Clint Hill. He is replaced by Jay Rodriguez.

-
1544:
Robbie Savage, BBC Final ScoreEverton 1-0 Reading"Fellaini laid the ball off, wandered into the box and at no point did a Reading centre-half think to engage with him and challenge him. But then Fellaini plays between the lines, so is it a job for a midfielder or a defender?"

Graeme at Stadium of Light: "The Fulham 'penalty' was at my end. Never in a million years was it a pen. The ref is generally pants."
Allan from London: "Why does Martin Jol insist on continuing to play Senderos? Hughes and Hangeland was one of the best defensive partnerships in the Premier League and Senderos has at least one mistake in him every game."
-
1541:GOAL- Everton 1-0 Reading - Marouane Fellaini (42 mins)
Everton do have a breakthrough, and it comes from the huge head of Marouane Fellaini. Kudos to Seamus Coleman though, with the right-back beating several men down the right with a real mazy run before standing up a cross which Fellaini heads into the top corner. Superb wing play. Fellaini now has more Premier League goals this season than Wayne Rooney...
-
1540:
BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Stamford Bridge:Chelsea 1-0 West Brom"'You're Just An Interim,' chant aimed at Benitez from The Shed - but all pretty tame and knockabout stuff so far."
-
1540:Swansea 0-0 Newcastle
A decent chance for Swansea, but veteran Garry Monk heads over from eight yards after a free-kick from Jonathan De Guzman.
-
1539:
Statisticians Opta: "Craig Gardner has scored with all four of the Premier League penalties he has taken (three for Sunderland)."
-
1538:CLOSE!- Everton 0-0 Reading
It says much about Everton's goalscoring form of late that full-back Leighton Baines is the club's leading Premier League scorer in 2013. And the Toffees are again struggling to hurt Reading as Steven Pienaar's attempt is blocked by Adrian Mariappa before goalkeeper Stuart Taylor denies Nikica Jelavic after the Everton striker found himself clean through. Kevin Mirallas has also gone close but this is frustrating so far for boss David Moyes.
-
1538:
Steve Claridge, BBC Final ScoreSunderland 1-2 Fulham"That penalty's changed it around, hasn't it? My, Sunderland needed that. For what reason, I don't know, Senderos has pulled him back. A very soft penalty to give away, and I don't know what he was doing."

-
1536:GOAL- Sunderland 1-2 Fulham - Craig Gardner (37 mins)
Craig Gardner smashes the ball into the top corner. Sunderland needed that goal.
-
1535:PENALTY to Sunderland
A bit of a soft one this as Philippe Senderos gets a chunk of shirt as Danny Graham tries to run on to a flick-on. Penalty given, silly challenge as the goalkeeper was always getting there.
-
1534:GOAL- Sunderland 0-2 Fulham - Sascha Riether (35 mins)
A goal straight out of the counter-attacking textbook. Dimitar Berbatov clears a Sunderland corner with his head and Fulham are away. Bryan Ruiz carries the ball downfield, feeds the overlapping Ashkan Dejagah and when his low shot is spilled out, right-back Sascha Riether is on hand to tap in.
-
1533:CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
The Championship is proving to be as gloriously inconsistent as usual. Leaders Cardiff are currently trailing 2-0 away to Middlesbrough, with Kieron Dyer opening the scoring with his first league goal since 2007, while Hull look on course to move up into the automatic promotion places as they lead 2-0 at Birmingham.
At the other end of the table, Blackburn manager Michael Appleton is enduring a dreadful week as his side are losing 3-0 at home to bottom-placed Peterborough with just more than 30 minutes gone.
-
1533:
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty at Stamford BridgeChelsea 1-0 West Brom"Rafael Benitez as impassive as always when a goal goes in as Demba Ba gives Chelsea a deserved lead against West Bromwich Albion. The Spaniard will be pretty satisfied with his afternoon so far."

-
1532:GET INVOLVED
Stephen Briscoe: "Ba! A real striker! Chelsea have been all over them, keep this up lads!"
Alastair Williams: "That Chelsea goal looked straight from the training ground but I doubt Chelsea fans will thank Benitez for that."
Sham Gallagher: "This is why Ba should be starting more often. Well done Ba!"
-
1531:Man Utd 0-0 Norwich
Manchester United are chucking the kitchen sink at Norwich here. Brilliant play from Anderson sets up a chance which ends with Wayne Rooney's shot being blocked. Norwich hanging on.
-
1530:Southampton 0-1 Queens Park Rangers
Loic Remy looks a real threat for QPR on the break, and Southampton haven't really had any chances to speak of.
-
1529:EL CLASICO UPDATE- Real Madrid 1-1 Barcelona
As is the way with Lionel Messi, every goal seems to throw up another landmark. That equaliser against Real Madrid was his 50th goal in 39 games this season and drew him level with countryman Alfredo Di Stefano as the all-time joint top scorer in El Clasico games.
Oh, that also means he has scored in 16 consecutive La Liga games. Not bad stats...
-
1528:GOAL- Chelsea 1-0 West Brom - Demba Ba (28 mins)
Predatory. Chelsea work a short corner, Oscar whips in a cross to the back stick, David Luiz picks out Demba Ba with a lovely header back into the mixer and the striker smashes home. No reaction at all from Rafael Benitez on the bench...
-
1527:
Steve Claridge, BBC Final ScoreSouthampton 0-1 Queens Park Rangers
"What a huge game this is now for QPR. The goal for Loic Remy was him, the keeper and two lads on the line. Instead of smashing it he sidefoots it over the keeper, so he gets control of it. It's a really good finish."
-
1526:CLOSE!- Sunderland 0-1 Fulham
A chance for Fulham to go 2-0 up. Ashkan Dejagah is sent through on goal by an enormous Mark Schwarzer kick down the field but the Iran international flashes his shot wide of the goal when he probably should have hit the target.
-
1526:GET INVOLVED
Lars Wolter: "Wow! Swansea are playing beautiful attacking football right now."
Glen Sykes: "Martin O'Neill has been quietly pulling Sunderland head first into the relegation battle!"
James Tumber: "In Berba we trust!"
-
1525:HITS THE WOODWORK- Stoke 0-0 West Ham
West Ham react well to those two early changes and they almost take the lead as centre-back James Collins flicks a header against the top of the crossbar.
-
1524:Chelsea 0-0 West Brom
It's all settled down at the Bridge after that early flurry of chances. Chelsea still in control though.
-
1523:
Robbie Savage, BBC Final Score"Le Fondre's hit the post for Reading. Put him back on the bench - he only scores when he comes off the bench! What's the point of starting him?"
-
1523:HITS THE WOODWORK- Everton 0-0 Reading
So close for Reading. Adam Le Fondre is starting because Pavel Pogrebnyak is suspended, but the former Rotherham striker has rattled the Everton woodwork from 15 yards after the Toffees fail to deal properly with a corner.
-
1520:GET INVOLVED
Matty Ian Deller: "Berba is too good for Fulham - we played a blinder getting him for so cheap!"
Dan Aragones: "They condemned the Blackburn fans for not getting behind Steve Kean. Why are people getting behind the Chelsea fans now?"
Zander Davey: "Norwich are the only team that can do the double over United...."
-
1520:
Injuries galore today. I make that four or five early subs already...
-
1519:BBC Sport's Spanish football writer Andy West:GOAL- Real Madrid 1-1 Barcelona - Lionel Messi (18 mins)
"That's just what Barca needed, and also exactly what Lionel Messi needed. The little Argentine has come in for criticism in the last couple of weeks but he's produced a vintage equaliser, spinning away from Sergio Ramos to find space on the right of the area before cutting inside to drill a low shot inside Diego Lopez's near post. The moment to rejuvenate Barca's season?"
-
1519:SUBSTITUTION- Everton 0-0 Reading
Another early substitution at Goodison Park. Following Phil Jagielka's abrupt departure due to injury, Reading's Mali international Jimmy Kebe has now limped off to be replaced by Hal Robson-Kanu.
-
1518:Man Utd 0-0 Norwich
United put together a slick move as Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie combine with a one-two but Canaries keeper Mark Bunn comes flying off his line to sweep up well. United are taking control.
-
1517:
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty at Stamford BridgeChelsea 0-0 West Brom"Nothing toxic off the pitch for Rafael Benitez to deal with and nothing in the way goals yet either - although Oscar could have done better with two good chances."
-
1516:
Robbie Savage, BBC Final ScoreSunderland 0-1 Fulham"Berbatov is too good for Fulham. With that penalty he stopped then sidefooted it nonchalantly into the corner. What a player he is."
-
1516:GET INVOLVED
Daniel Lee Bale: "Henri Matisse himself would be proud of those banners at Stamford Bridge - such creativity, flair and great use of colour."
Matisse once said: "I desire pleasure. I am not a revolutionary by principle." A closet Chelsea fan, perhaps?
-
1515:GOAL- Sunderland 0-1 Fulham - Dimitar Berbatov (16 mins)
Cool as you like from Dimitar Berbatov, who checks his approach to the ball and then slots it home with his right foot. The keeper did not move.
-
1514:GOAL- Southampton 0-1 Queens Park Rangers - Loic Remy (14 mins)
It's been all Southampton - but QPR strike a massive blow on the break. Junior Hoilett plays a ball over the top, Loic Remy is onside and in on goal and he tucks it away in classic fashion, lifting the ball over the keeper and Danny Fox can't keep it out on the line. Massive.
-
1514:PENALTY TO FULHAM- Sunderland 0-0 Fulham
Ashkan Dejagah goes down after a tackle by Craig Gardner.
-
1513:SUBSTITUTION- Stoke 0-0 West Ham
West Ham midfielder Matt Taylor has had to go off after that blow from Peter Crouch. Jack Collison comes on for him, while Hammers playmaker Joe Cole is also forced off with a hamstring injury and replaced by Ricardo Vaz Te. That's two subs for West Ham in the first 10 minutes.
-
1513:BBC Sport's Spanish football writer Andy West:EL CLASICO UPDATE- Real Madrid 1-0 Barcelona
"Who needs Ronaldo? Real needed just five minutes open the scoring and it came courtesy of a beautiful cross from Ronaldo's replacement, youngster Alvaro Morata, who is starting his first Clasico. His left wing delivery was bent dangerously between Barca's defence and goalkeeper, dropping perfectly into the stride of Karim Benzema to give the Frenchman a simple tap-in. Big pressure on Barca to respond now."
-
1512:CLOSE!- Southampton 0-0 Queens Park Rangers
It's been all Southampton so far, with Adam Lallana and Jack Cork having long-range efforts on goal before the Saints force a mighty goalmouth scramble which somehow is hooked clear.
-
1512:Swansea 0-0 Newcastle (1500 GMT)
Steven Taylor clears off the line from Ashley Williams after Michu heads Jonathan De Guzman's free-kick towards goal.
-
1510:GREAT SAVE!- Chelsea 0-0 West Brom
The Baggies win a free-kick 35 yards out from the Chelsea goal and dead centre. Steven Reid takes responsibility and drives the free-kick at goal forcing Petr Cech to tip over. Fine stop from the big Czech.
-
1510:
Robbie Savage, BBC Final ScoreStoke 0-0 West Ham"Peter Crouch went for an overhead kick but he kicked Matt Taylor straight in the face. He looks out cold and is being helped off by two people. It wasn't deliberate by Crouch, but it was a kick straight in the mouth."
-
1510:Everton 0-0 Reading
Everton need to beat Reading to maintain any realistic hopes of achieving a top-four finish and David Moyes' side have made a bright start at Goodison Park. Nikica Jelavic has headed well wide from a good position while Stephen Kelly whipped the ball off Steven Pienaar's toes as the South African was about to shoot. The Toffees have forced three corners in the opening seven minutes.
-
1509:GET INVOLVED
Fqiren: "Expecting a goal-fest at Goodison Park today with both teams missing their first choice keepers!"
Phil Robins: "Amazed there hasn't been more of a fuss about the disgraceful Chelsea fans."
Dave Worley: "Tony Brown, Ally Brown - both massive Albion legends. Izzy Brown has a big name to live up to! Excited for him."
-
1507:Stoke 0-0 West Ham
Oh my word! Ouch does not even cover this. Peter Crouch flies in to attempt an overhead kick, but he ends up catching Matty Taylor full in the jaw. Accidental, but very painful. I think Taylor is going to be ok, he looks groggy though after a size 12 to the face.
-
1507:GOAL- Real Madrid 1-0 Barcelona - Karim Benzema (6 mins)
Awful defending from Barcelona there as Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano commit the cardinal sin of letting a ball bounce in the area and Karim Benzema taps in from three-yards out to give Real Madrid the lead.
-
1507:Swansea 0-0 Newcastle (1500 GMT)
A chance for Swansea but Michu heads over from six yards after Yoan Gouffran is caught out on the Newcastle left.
-
1506:SUBSTITUTION- Everton 0-0 Reading
A very early change for Everton as Phil Jagielka is forced off and John Heitinga is on in his place. Adam Le Fondre is booked for the tackle.
-
1505:Manchester United 0-0 Norwich
Word reaches me that Rio Ferdinand is in fact ill today and not rested, and Norwich have a half chance as Brad Johnson gets in a good position down the left but overhits his cross.
-
1504:GREAT SAVE!- Chelsea 0-0 West Brom
Chelsea should be ahead - Demba Ba breaks away down the right and puts in a great low cross, Oscar gets free but shanks his shot into the turf and Ben Foster is able to make a scrambling save.
-
1503:EL CLASICO
El Clasico is under way.
-
1502:Chelsea 0-0 West Brom
Chelsea are having the early play at Stamford Bridge, where West Brom have named midfielder Isaiah Brown on the bench - if he comes on, then at 16 years and 54 days the teenager will become the youngest player to have made an appearance in the Premier League.
That means he was born in 1997.
-
1501:CLOSE!- Sunderland 0-0 Fulham
Sunderland come flying out of the traps and after they win a very early corner, John O'Shea heads into the side-netting.
-
1500:KICK-OFF
We have kicked off in our seven Premier League games.
-
1458:
At St Mary's though there are clear boos for QPR boss Harry Redknapp on his birthday. It's also Mauricio Pochettino's birthday and the Saints boss is wearing an extraordinary coat/cape. It looks like a Bruce Wayne cast-off.

Here comes Rafael Benitez out of the tunnel at Stamford Bridge - and it's a non-event. I don't think anyone noticed to be honest...

Former Chelsea midfielder Nigel Spackman at Stamford Bridge on BBC Radio 5 live:"I wish I had played for Chelsea in this era. But how many more trophies could Chelsea have won with a bit of stability? Even so, the club is one of the most successful teams in Europe in the last 10 years."
-
1452:Southampton v Queens Park Rangers (1500 GMT)
QPR boss Harry Redknapp is expecting a hostile reception at St Mary's when his side take on Southampton. Redknapp oversaw the Saints' relegation in 2005 then quit to re-join bitter rivals Portsmouth. "Listen, I will get a bit of grief, won't I? But what can you do? That's no problem," he said. "They are not bad people there.
"I wouldn't say Southampton supporters are nasty, aggressive people. They're not. I won't lose any sleep over that. I will only lose sleep if the result is bad."

1451:IPIE IN THE SKY
Big news from the SPL, where Hearts have stolen a march on their rivals by launching a phone app which allows fans to order their half-time pie from the comfort of their seats.
A statement on the Scottish Premier League club's website said: "Supporters seated in the upper sections of the Wheatfield Stand will have the unique opportunity to use their Android or iOS smartphones to skip the queues and have their food delivered direct to their seats, ensuring that they don't miss a minute of the action on the pitch."
Genius. Sheer genius.

1449:FOOTBALL LEAGUE PREVIEW
League Two's runaway top two are both on the road this afternoon, with leaders Gillingham at Aldershot and second-placed Port Vale at Oxford. The race for the third automatic promotion spot is hotting up, with Burton needing a win at Bristol Rovers to definitely keep hold of it.
Elsewhere, fourth-placed Northampton - who were 17th in October - are at sixth-placed Exeter, while draw specialists Cheltenham need a win at Wimbledon to keep their promotion hopes from stalling.

1447:
Jonathan Pearce, BBC Match of the Day commentator at Stamford Bridge"Benitez has certainly backtracked from what happened on Wednesday night. He's tried to pour cold water on it. I don't think many people are convinced that every player in the first team is convinced by Rafa Benitez. It was never for me a marriage made in heaven, and it's got worse as the weeks have gone on. If today sees a Chelsea defeat, is his position tenable?"

MOTD's Simon Brotherton at the Liberty StadiumSwansea v Newcastle (1500 GMT)"This will be Swansea's first outing since the 5-0 Wembley win against Bradford and there'll be a tremendous atmosphere before the game, but the reality of the Premier League will soon kick in against a seemingly resurgent Newcastle.
"Alan Pardew's side have won three of their last four league matches, including a 3-2 home win over Chelsea and a 4-2 victory over Southampton last time out, to lift them six points clear of the relegation zone."
-

MOTD's Ian Dennis at the Stadium of LightSunderland v Fulham (1500 GMT)"Sunderland must rediscover their touch for scoring goals at home after three successive blanks at the Stadium of Light in league and cup as they continue to look over their shoulders.
"Martin Jol's Fulham side are themselves not totally safe from the threat of relegation but if they can add to their away wins at Wigan and West Brom then any lingering fears will surely fade away."
-
1444:
MOTD's Jonathan Pearce at Stamford BridgeChelsea v West Brom (1500 GMT)"I fear Stamford Bridge will be a raucous bear-pit with the anger of the boo-boys creating an acidic atmosphere after Rafael Benitez's midweek outburst.
"West Brom die-hards are equally unlikely to want to kiss and make up with Peter Odemwingie, who is hoping to resurrect his West Brom career after his last ill-fated trip to west London saw him try to bludgeon a move to QPR on deadline day."

1443:SCOTTISH FOOTBALL LATEST
Celtic are the first team through to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup but they were made to work hard for their 2-1 win at St Mirren. Joe Ledley's early header was cancelled out in 13 minutes by Jose Goncalves's tap-in following a gaffe by Celtic's Honduran left-back Emilio Izaguirre. But Neil Lennon's side moved in front again through Irish striker Anthony Stokes eight minutes later and, despite the best efforts of the Buddies, Celtic held firm. Hamilton and Falkirk go toe to toe at 1500 for a last-four place in the Cup, with two further quarter-finals to follow on Sunday.
Earlier, Rangers moved 23 points clear at the top of the Third Division with a 3-1 win over East Stirlingshire. The Shire's small band of fans were in dreamland when Andy Stirling rounded off a one-two by slotting past Gers keeper Neil Alexander, but after the break it was the home fans in the 44,534 crowd who were celebrating as two goals by Andy Little and one by returning captain Lee McCulloch made the points safe.
-
1443:FOOTBALL LEAGUE PREVIEW
It's incredibly tight at the top of League One. Just four points separate leaders Doncaster - who host strugglers Hartlepool this afternoon - and Bournemouth, who are one place short of the play-off places. Those top six positions could all change by this evening.
New Swindon boss Kevin MacDonald takes charge for the first time at Coventry, while at the bottom Portsmouth could end the day 14 points adrift of safety if they lose at Crewe and Colchester pick up three points at Stevenage.
-
1443:
Stamford Bridge may well dominate our next few hours. I would say that Rafael Benitez may be in for a rough ride but it can't be any worse than the reception he got on his first game - can it?
As I say that some fans have just attached a banner at Stamford Bridge - 'Divided we Fall #rafaout'

1440:Real Madrid v Barcelona (1500 GMT)
BBC Sport's Spanish football writer Andy West: "Real's team selection shows just how much importance they're giving to Tuesday's game at Manchester United. The fact that they're willing to field a virtual reserve side for a Clasico against their most bitter rivals also demonstrates they've given up any hopes of retaining the La Liga title. For Barca, it's now a big opportunity to restore some confidence after those damaging defeats against AC Milan and Real."
That virtual reserve side contains Kaka, Michael Essien, Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema and Luka Modric...

1439:GET INVOLVED
Sophie Mata Garcia: "Rafa was right in what he said, fans do need to get behind him. Chelsea is one big family, we do need to get behind our boys."
Andy Baber: "Expect this has already been suggested, but Laudrup to Chelsea in the summer?"
Zaheer: "Giggs not in the squad today is worrying. Will Fergie start him against Madrid? I hope not."
-
1438:Chelsea v West Brom (1500 GMT)
Chelsea captain John Terry joins Fernando Torres on the bench for Chelsea. Frank Lampard takes the captain's armband as he moves level with John Hollins on the club's third highest number of appearance with 592. Juan Mata makes his 100th appearance for the club.
Romelu Lukaku, who has made such an impression on loan at The Hawthorns, cannot face parent club Chelsea during his spell at West Bromwich Albion.
-
1438:FOOTBALL LEAGUE PREVIEW
In the Championship, Leaders Cardiff could end the day 10 points clear at the top should they win at Middlesbrough and third-placed Hull fail to beat Birmingham at home. Second-placed Watford were denied a win by a late goal at Wolves last night.
At the bottom of the table, Peterborough can close the gap with a win at Blackburn while fellow strugglers Bristol City are also on the road at Paul Ince's Blackburn.
-
1435:Stoke v West Ham (1500 GMT)
Stoke make three changes from the defeat by Fulham last time out. Centre-back Robert Huth is suspended so full-back Andy Wilkinson comes into the side and Marc Wilson is expected to move into central defence alongside Ryan Shawcross. Winger Michael Kightly and striker Cameron Jerome also start as they replace Geoff Cameron and Matthew Etherington.
West Ham make one enforced change from the loss to Tottenham. Captain Kevin Nolan has a broken toe so Matt Taylor comes into the starting line-up.
-
1434:THE BIRTH OF THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Today is a significant anniversary in the football world.
On 2 March, 1888, 125 years ago to the day, William McGregor, then the secretary of Aston Villa, wrote a letter to four other clubs - Blackburn, Bolton, Preston and West Brom - to propose playing in a league.
It remains a pivotal point in football's development because it is the moment when the idea of league football was given a public expression. Before that, the major clubs in England played mainly in cup competitions, with those games supplemented by a series of ad-hoc friendlies.
Where would we be without that letter eh? Shopping this afternoon, miserable. That's where...

1434:
Afternoon everyone. The sun is out in Salford, small children have been spotted actually playing football on the piazza outside live text towers, it very much feels like the first day of spring.
Or to put it another way, we are entering 'the business end' of the Premier League season. Title wins, European dreams and relegation woe will all be decided in the next 11 games - starting right now. It's a manic afternoon on the cards...
-
1432:Real Madrid v Barcelona (1500 GMT)
BBC Sport's Spanish football writer Andy West: "As expected, Jose Mourinho has made several changes to rest his star players ahead of Tuesday's trip to Manchester United. Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil, Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira are among those left out, with rare starting opportunities for Kaka, Luka Modric, Michael Essien and young striker Alvaro Morata. Barca are missing Xavi with a thigh problem makes him doubtful for the Champions' League return leg against AC Milan in 10 days. His place goes to youngster Thiago Alcantara."
