"We should have enough in that dressing room to get better results than we're getting, though saying that we've lost three games since I've been here, all by 2-1, and we could have won them all," said Saunders.
"We have to dig in, we have turn up against (league leaders) Cardiff (on Sunday) and pull ourselves out of it.
"Hopefully the reality will hit home because I've been trying to drum it into the players since I got here: 'Don't think it can't happen to you'."
He added: "I've been telling them, if I was a supporter I'd be saying to them: 'Do you realise what the situation of the club is?'
"I've been here seven games and this has been going on for a long time, and I have to try and put an end to it and put the mentality right.
"But I thought they fought (against Barnsley), you could see that, some of the football we played was great, some of the chances created were excellent."
