Billy Clarke's 12th goal of the season earned Crawley the points against fellow mid-table side Leyton Orient.
The decisive strike was full of quality as Clarke turned and curled a cracking effort past goalkeeper Jamie Jones from the edge of the area.
Mike Jones had the chance to double the visitors' lead, but his header from Nicky Adams' centre hit the crossbar.
The home side nearly stole a point late on but Dean Cox's close-range header was well saved by Paul Jones.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade told BBC London 94.9
"We were not the standard we wanted, we needed more urgency, and the goal was key.
"I don't think he will score another one of them that's for sure, and they have had just two shots on target all game.
"It was a bit flat, we recognised that and the players had to go and spark the crowd.
"But the goal against us hurt and it took time to recover. There were good pockets of football but we never hurt them despite 17 attempts on goal."
Crawley Town assistant manager Anthony Williams told BBC Sussex:
"The players have been excellent over the last two weeks. We've got a bit more of an in-depth squad now with players we can rely on.
"At 1-0 you're always open to counter attacks, but it's pleasing the fact that we kept a clean sheet.
"Billy Clarke is a fantastic player and he does create something out of nothing, it's nice having players like that in the team. "
