Fabricio Coloccini: Newcastle defender wants return to Argentina
Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini has told the club he wants to leave in January for personal reasons.
While the 30-year-old has not handed in a formal transfer request, a crisis in his personal life means he no longer feels he can stay on Tyneside.
Further talks are planned in the coming days, with Newcastle set to do all they can to persuade the Argentina international to change his mind.
But club officials fear Coloccini has set his heart on a return to Argentina.
Originally from Cordoba in Argentina, Coloccini joined Newcastle from Deportivo for £10.3m in 2008 and signed a new four-year contract with Newcastle last year.
He has only made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, due to a hamstring injury picked up on international duty and a three-match suspension after being sent off against Liverpool .
But his performances have drawn praise from manager Alan Pardew, who said that watching him against rivals Sunderland in October was "like watching Bobby Moore"."
Newcastle have already sold striker Demba Ba to Chelsea this transfer window.

if the rumors are true and he is to leave either permanent or on loan it will be a loss to NUFC...we need to find someone with premier league experience and the ability to be calm under pressure...and after a few week watching him for city and being linked with villa ..lescott has to be worth a punt...ok older than average...but that brings experience and the ability to pass on his worth..

I didn't realise Colo could cut it when he signed. Shows what a good bit of buisness the Toon did. Who was in charge? Ashley. Who is in charge now? Ashley. The guy is running this club as well as any in the Premier League - minimal debt, sensible wage structure. We could be Birmingham City. Count our blessings cos we will get out of this hole because of Ashley not in spite of him.

All talk of Coloccini leaving is premature. NUFC is exploring ways to retain him in the long term while allowing him to resolve whatever family problems he has.
This is the best approach to take and helps both the player and the club in the long term.

As long as moving closer to Argentian doesn't mean going Chelsea then all the best to him.
