2203:Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
Stoke manager Tony Pulis: "We might not be last on Match of the Day tonight. Our two centre-halves were off it a bit tonight but everyone else was superb. The response to going behind was the greatest thing. We were fantastic, and they were helped by 28,000 supporters."
-
2200:
At the bottom, QPR are in last place on 10 points, and are joined on that figure by Reading. Wigan round out the bottom three on 15 points, while Southampton are in 17th place on 16 points.
-
2158:
So after a marathon day, let's take a look at the Premier League table.
At the top, Manchester United have definitely took the toy out of the cracker with Javier Hernandez's late winner against Newcastle putting them seven points clear of Manchester City, who have been left with the duff joke.
Chelsea stay in third, while Spurs are now in fourth, ahead of Everton on goals scored and West Brom on goal difference. All three teams have 33 points.

TP on text: "Before the anti-football-long-ball-play-to-their-strengths-rugby-team bandwagon rolls in to town, how refreshing to see Stoke City to a man, visibly exert more passion, energy and desire in the quest to win than Liverpool. The Spirit of Istanbul left the building a long time ago."
-
2152:Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers: "We had a perfect start with our first penalty of the season. You couldn't ask for any more but we are very disappointed by how we defended. We have nobody to blame but ourselves, you have to defend better than that. We failed to control the game once we scored, we didn't deal with the first ball forward.
"To concede from a corner is bitterly disappointing. When you defend like that it's difficult to gain a result. It's disappointing.
"Stoke are really committed to the cause. You know you get a difficult game against them, but we never took a foothold in the game and that's really disappointing. Luis Suarez has been playing with a swollen ankle for the last few weeks so we will assess him and see how he is."
-
2150:Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
Here comes Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers. I wager the phrase 'disappointing' will be used by him more than once.
-
2149:Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
Stoke goalscorer Jon Walters: "We all work for each other, front to back, and it was a full team effort today, a good win for us. If we win the ball in their half it puts pressure on them.
"We can mix it up, play high up the pitch and that's the extra armoury we have. We haven't conceded many this year and we conceded early, but there was never a chance we'd lie down and there was some great play - especially in the second half. Kenwyne wins everything in the air - you've just got to make runs off of him and keep your head."
-
2148:GET INVOLVED
Neil from Liverpool on text via 81111: "I think I've cracked it - Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is a clever fella! If he gets us to play so poorly (think what happened against Villa too) then we look poor and he can convince the owners to spend massively in the January sales. Pity he is likely to waste it!"
-
2145:
Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker on Twitter:"MOTD running order: ManU/New, Sun/ManC, AV/Tot, Sto/Liv, QPR/WBA, Eve/Wig, Nor/Che, Ful/Sou, Rea/Swa."

2141:
Former Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane at the Britannia Stadium on BBC Radio 5 live:"Without a doubt Stoke deserved to win. For a man tonight, Stoke were outstanding and completely dominated apart from the first few minutes.
"There was more to Stoke's game tonight than lumping it forward, they passed the ball. For Liverpool, only Luis Suarez had a real effect on the game."
-
2141:
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty at the Britannia Stadium:"Stoke City deservedly beat Liverpool 3-1 - and it should be stressed there was some real quality in that performance. Liverpool lightweight."
-
2137:
Nottingham Forest chairman Fawaz Al Hasawai after the dismissal of Sean O'Driscoll on Twitter: "Made contact with PL manager tonight. Meeting Thursday."

2136:FULL-TIME- Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
-
2136:SCOTTISH PREMIER UDPATE
Celtic striker Gary Hooper's delightful lob over keeper Rab Douglas added to his team's 1-0 half-time lead at Dens Park and the SPL champions head back to Glasgow with a 2-0 win. Neil Lennon's side are now seven points ahead of Inverness CT and Motherwell, the nearest challengers, while Barry Smith's strugglers are nine points behind Ross County. They do, though, have a game in hand in the relegation battle.
-
2135:Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
So at the halfway point of the season Liverpool are going to be midway, bang in the middle at 10th place. Stoke fans chant "can we play you every week?"
-
2131:GREAT SAVE!- Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
Steven Gerrard chances his arm from 25 yards. It's a cracking curling strike but Asmir Begovic makes the flying save. Begovic looks the business, he really does.
-
2130:
Former Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane at the Britannia Stadium on BBC Radio 5 live:"You do not want to say Liverpool are a one-man team, but Luis Suarez has sparked everything yet again for Liverpool today."

-
2129:Stoke 3-1 Liverpool

"They have passed the ball a bit tonight Stoke, and it is easy to criticise them for playing long balls. Steven Nzonzi and Glenn Whelan have been outstanding for them against Liverpool in centre midfield."

-
2125:Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
Frustration threatens to boil over for Jonjo Shelvey as he pushes Robert Huth. Not sure I'd want to be starting a fight with the German. Referee Howard Webb defuses the situation though.
-
2121:NEW RECORD
Jon Walters is now Stoke's joint all-time top scorer in the Premier League. He has moved on to 18 goals now, level with Ricardo Fuller.
-
2120:SUBSTITUTION- Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
Stoke now make a change, with former Liverpool man Peter Crouch coming on in place of Kenwyne Jones. Jones has been, well, unplayable today. Martin Skrtel will be having nightmares about him.

Ed in Preston on text via 81111: "Ah, I see the ever predictable 'when will Liverpool accept they're a mid-table club' posts have arrived. Slightly insulting to Stoke who are unbeaten at home in 18 games don't you think? Stop gloating and start thinking."

Statisticians Opta on Twitter: "44 - Stoke have scored more than twice in a Premier League game for the first time in 44 matches. Unusual."

2107:DISALLOWED GOAL

2107:GET INVOLVED
Mark O'Reilly on Twitter: "Three at the back with defender Sebastian Coates has worked before for Liverpool to give aerial presence. Get that big fella on!"
-
2105:Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
There is just over half an hour remaining of this game, and this marathon day of footy.
Geoff Cameron is a touch late on Liverpool sub Raheem Sterling ,and he is a worried man as Howard Webb paces over. The American is on a booking but Webb lets him off with a final warning. Can Liverpool mount a comeback? It looks unlikely.
-
2104:
Former Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane at the Britannia Stadium on BBC Radio 5 live:"I thought Stoke's Asmir Begovic could have dealt better with that rather than it being a foul by Liverpool's Luis Suarez there. If you look at the two sendings-off in the West Ham v Everton game, however, challenges like that led to red cards.
"Suarez did not appear to be looking at the goalkeeper there, there was no real malice."

2103:
Marseille loanee Joey Barton on Twitter: "What's happened to Liverpool?"
-
2102:YELLOW CARD- Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
Jose Enrique helps the ball into the mixer, Luis Suarez runs on to it, Asmir Begovic comes out to punch it clear and Suarez catches him as he goes to shoot. Both players need treatment, and Suarez is booked for his trouble.

-
2058:Stoke 3-1 Liverpool
This is Jon Walters' 72nd straight Premier League game. A remarkable effort considering the shift he puts in. You can see why Tony Pulis likes him. Both of his goals tonight have been superbly taken though.
Liverpool win a corner and Asmir Bgovic is wrestled to ground but play is waved on.
-
2057:
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty at the Britannia Stadium:"Jonathan Walters has taken both of his goals superbly well tonight for Stoke against Liverpool. An example of what boss Tony Pulis demands - and gets - from his players."

Former Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane at the Britania Stadium on BBC Radio 5 live:"It was a long throw-in deep into the Liverpool box and Stoke's Jonathan Walters took his touch wonderfully well before finishing. He has been really effective at reading the flick-ons from strike partner Kenywne Jones."
Listen to commentary of Stoke v Liverpool on BBC Radio 5 live now.
-
2053:GET INVOLVED
Tom Irwin on Twitter: "As fragile as Liverpool at the back are in the air, Stoke are on the ground. Get Shelvey off, stick Hendo on, free up Gerrard."
-
2051:GOAL- Stoke 3-1 Liverpool - Jon Walters (49 mins)
The contrast in styles in stark, but there's nothing wrong with the finishing. Moments after Liverpool miss their chance from some neat play, Stoke score from a set-piece. Andy Wilkinson hurls in a long throw, Kenwyne Jones helps it on and Jon Walters takes the ball on his chest before firing into the roof of the net from 15 yards. Brilliant finish.
-
2050:SITTER!- Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
What a miss! Luis Suarez flicks one out wide to Raheem Sterling who makes an immediate impact. The youngster beats his man and gets to the line before picking out Suarez at the near post. The Uruguayan miskicks his shot though and it spins into the side-netting. Big, big chance.
-
2047:KICK-OFF- Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
We are back under way at the Britannia. Can Raheem Sterling and co turn this one around?
-
2047:SUBSTITUTION- Stoke 2-1 Liverpool

-
2043:Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Kenwyne Jones is the scourge of Merseyside. He has bagged against Everton and Liverpool now - he also scored against both sides in the 2010-2011 Premier League campaign.
-
2039:GET INVOLVED
Steve from Crosskeys on text: "I'm a Liverpool fan and like our pass to feet style. That said, to criticise Stoke for their kind of football is just daft given the fact they get results with it. Points are what count in this league. I just hope they don't end up taking all three come the end of 90 minutes tonight."
-
2038:Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Stoke will move above Liverpool if they can hold on to this win.
-
2034:GET INVOLVED
Mark Weston on Twitter: "Not a Stoke fan but the constant Stoke bashing isn't fair. They win ugly. They have a style and stick to it. Fair play. Bottle."
-
2033:SCOTTISH PREMIER UPDATE
Celtic have cruised their way through the bottom v top match in the Scottish Premier League. However, they have only one goal to show for their dominance, a Georgios Samaras overhead kick from 10 yards after Dundee keeper Rab Douglas had parried a Tony Watt effort from Charlie Mulgrew's in-swinging corner.
You can follow the action from that one on a separate live text commentary.
-
2032:GET INVOLVED
Alex in Retford on text via 81111: "Stoke's style is refreshing, would be boring if teams all played the same, there's a difference between 'long' and 'direct'."
-
2032:
Former Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane at the Britannia Stadium on BBC Radio 5 live:"Liverpool have to get more support up to Luis Suarez, he has looked a one-man show at times in this game. Jonjo Shelvey and Suso need to get closer to him against Stoke."
Listen to commentary of Stoke v Liverpool on BBC Radio 5 live now.
-
2032:
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty at the Britannia Stadium:HALF-TIME- Stoke 2-1 Liverpool"Superb first half with chances at both ends. Suspect Luis Suarez may still have the final word against his many critics inside The Britannia."
-
2029:CLOSE!- Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Clumsy stuff almost has Stoke further ahead. Pepe Reina fluffs his kick straight to Kenwyne Jones, the ball is then crossed to the back post where Matthew Etherington has time to bring the ball down. Reina redeems himself with a double save and is then adjudged to have kept the ball in as Stoke call for a corner.
-
2025:Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Liverpool have settled into a rhythm now and are popping it about nicely. After a neat interchange with Jose Enrique down the left, Suso switches play with a fine pass to Luis Suarez, but Steven Gerrard then shoots way over the top. They look slick at the moment - but don't forget that they are losing...
-
2024:GET INVOLVED
Neal E on Twitter: "Pass and move v hit, hope and hack. Stoke play ugly because none of their players are good enough to actually play in the top flight."
-
2021:GREAT SAVE!- Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Brilliant from Luis Suarez as he rolls away from the attentions of Robert Huth and fires in a low shot at the near post. He hit it true, but Asmir Begovic saves it between his legs. Suarez is on form here.
-
2019:GET INVOLVED
Jack in Swansea on text via 81111: "Regarding the Sean O'Driscoll Nottingham Forest sacking, the statement from the owners might as well have said: 'Woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning', for all the sense it made. Horrendous ownership, truly sad to see."
-
2018:Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Best atmosphere of the day here. Stoke are pressing Liverpool high up the pitch and the home fans love it. Jose Enrique is forced into just hacking the ball out, it almost falls for Matthew Etherington but he can't control his header.
-
2016:
Former Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane at the Britannia Stadium on BBC Radio 5 live:"The way Steven Gerrard finishes, you would have expected that to go in for Liverpool against Stoke as there was no-one with a few yards of him to put any pressure on before he shot.
"This game has been end-to-end so far.
"Stoke have also played better this season than last due to the lack of European football. That really stretched them last season."
Listen to commentary of Stoke v Liverpool on BBC Radio 5 live now.
-
2014:CLOSE!- Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Almost a cracking equaliser. Stewart Downing takes on Michael Kightly, who slips to allow the Liverpool winger to the touchline. Downing finds Steven Gerrard racing up to the edge of the box, the England man goes for placement, and bobbles his shot just wide.
Downing then creates another chance but his final pass is behind Luis Suarez, who screws his shot over the bar.
-
2013:GET INVOLVED
Jessica O'Sullivan on Twitter: "Stoke playing lots of long balls, hitting and hoping. Not attractive football but grinds out results."
Jon Evans on Twitter: "This match is bringing Liverpool back to earth. Mid-table team and that's all they will be this season."
Once Burnt Wax on Twitter: "Who says Stoke play long ball... That was beautiful by Cameron/Nzonzi for Etherington's shot... Credit to boss Pulis."
-
2012:Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Steven Gerrard's penalty in the second minute equalled Liverpool's fastest converted penalty in Premier League history. In March 2000 Patrik Berger also scored from the spot in the second minute in Liverpool's 1-1 home draw against Sunderland.
-
2011:GET INVOLVED
Rob in Croydon on text via 81111: "I find it very frustrating when Stoke boss Tony Pulis continuously criticises the spending of others clubs when Stoke has made a net spend of £75m over the past 5 seasons. Compare this to the £49m Liverpool has spent in the same period, £3m for Spurs & -£45m for Arsenal. Stop trying to defend your style!"
-
2011:GET INVOLVED
Ryan Smith on Twitter: "Are we not due a goal now? Been about 10 minutes without one. Feel Steven Gerrard is wasted for Liverpool in a deep role."
-
2010:Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Luis Suarez is almost in on the end of a good pass. It's not quite clicking for Liverpool, but both sides look dangerous.
-
2008:GET INVOLVED
El Yaro on Twitter: "How anyone can complain about Stoke's style of play is beyond me, it's a physical sport and they play it in an effective manner."
Jonathan Poole on Twitter: "Just nipped to the shop not too worried about missing the first 15 minutes of the match. Oops."
Bayor Makoun on Twitter: "I don't see Liverpool in the Champions League in the next decade. Stoke will score more than two against us; Villa beat us at home."
-
2006:GREAT SAVE!- Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Without wanting to state the obvious, Kenwyne Jones is proving a handful up front. He takes one on the chest and tees up Jon Walters, who elects not to shoot. They instead work the ball out wide and when it comes back in, Matthew Etherington fires in a right-footed effort which Pepe Reina has to turn over the top.
-

2004:Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Nice attack down Liverpool's right sees Stewart Downing break clear but his cut back is behind Luis Suarez and Suso can't retrieve it. The visitors are on top at the moment.
Suarez and Daniel Agger then combine well but the move breaks down.
-
2003:
Statisticians Opta on Twitter: "2 - Kenwyne Jones now has two goals in three games, after a run of 27 Premier League matches without one. Revitalised."
-
2002:GET INVOLVED
Ben Franklin on Twitter: "Taking the lead against Stoke is hard enough. Now Liverpool have to do it again!"
-
2000:Stoke 2-1 Liverpool
Who predicted this start then? Certainly not me. Jonjo Shelvey and Luis Suarez threaten to link up nicely but Ryan Shawcross extends a leg to make the clearance. Liverpool having the ball for the first time since they took the lead.
-
2000:
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty at the Britannia Stadium:"Magnificent response from Stoke City to going behind. Turbo-charged stuff at The Britannia."
-
1959:
Former Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane at the Britannia Stadium on BBC Radio 5 live:"It is so difficult to get a leap like he did there on the back foot when you are moving away from goal. It is poor defending from Liverpool for Kenwyne Jones' goal for Stoke but it's been a great start to the game here against Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium.
"Stoke have gotten themselves back into this, and it has not just been through long, hopeful balls."

Rachel T on Twitter: "Did Stoke just take in striker Michael Owen like you would a parcel for your neighbours? Sad way for a career to end."
-
1957:GOAL- Stoke 2-1 Liverpool - Kenwyne Jones (12 mins)
Stoke have caused havoc with the diagonal ball. After Matthew Etherington wins a corner on the left, Glenn Whelan's delivery is met by Kenwyne Jones in front of the near post. He beats Daniel Agger to the ball, and there is an element of shoulder in his header but the big man gets enough on the ball to flick it in to the corner. What a turnaround!
-
1957:GET INVOLVED
Paul in Dundee on text via 81111: "If you watch the Luis Suarez incident there for the penalty closely, you'll see the shirt grabbing started outside the box = no penalty."
-
1955:Stoke 1-1 Liverpool
Stoke have their tails up now. Geoff Cameron whips in a testing cross which Steven Gerrard has to deal with. Pepe Reina then makes a strong punch to clear the corner.
-
1955:Aston Villa 0-4 Tottenham
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert: "Any defeat is tough and I feel sorry for them a little bit. I cannot fault the effort of the players though.
"The players were fine after the Chelsea game but they are a young side and it is a long season. We have played Chelsea and Spurs, two tough sides and now we have to win on Saturday.
"Taking nothing away from Spurs, they were very good in the first half but we defended strong. We kept on going.
"I have never once got carried away. They are young and have done great for me. People can get caught up in what happened at Anfield but I kept my feet on the ground. You can get beaten up in this league and that is what has happened to us.
"We have a few big players out and we will try and get them back as soon as possible."
-
1954:GET INVOLVED
Dominc O'Caollai on Twitter: "So Tom... 0-0 eh?"
Yeah, I'm delighted to be proven wrong on this one - There had only been 11 goals at the Britannia Stadium all season so two in the first five minutes is out of character.
-
1953:YELLOW CARD- Stoke 1-1 Liverpool
Breathless start at the Britannia. I should tell you that Ryan Shawcross was booked for conceding that first-minute penalty.
-
1952:
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty at the Britannia Stadium:"Liverpool striker Luis Suarez receiving a gold old-fashioned Britannia Stadium welcome."
-
1952:
Former Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane at the Britannia Stadium on BBC Radio 5 live:"That was brilliant play from Luis Suarez to latch onto that ball from Martin Skrtel. As soon as he got touched, he went over, but it looked a penalty for me.
"It was a brilliant penalty from Steven Gerrard, who stepped up with a calm head. Suarez made that happen with his pace and skill, it was outstanding play from him.
"Jon Walters composed himself with a great touch and it was a great finish from him for the immediate equaliser for Stoke.
"So often when you are through on goal with the goalkeeper you try and get your shot off early but he waited, and it was a really good finish from him."
Listen to commentary of Stoke v Liverpool on BBC Radio 5 live now.
-
1950:GOAL- Stoke 1-1 Liverpool - Jon Walters (5 mins)
What a start! Jon Walters levels things up with a fine finish. The build-up is not too pretty as Stoke launch a long ball downfield, Daniel Agger can only help it on towards his own goal and when Martin Skrtel slips, Walters takes his time before firing into the corner.
-
1949:YELLOW CARD
The home fans are furious about that penalty kick, and it's a lively atmosphere. Stoke defender Geoff Cameron then comes to the party with a booking after clattering into his man.
-
1947:GOAL- Stoke 0-1 Liverpool - Steven Gerrard (2 mins)
Classic penalty from Steven Gerrard as he hits it right into the corner. Ripples the side-netting and a flare goes off in the away end. Fireworks everywhere.
-
1946:PENALTY TO LIVERPOOL
What a start for Liverpool. Luis Suarez is the pest on the right hand side, he gets to a long ball ahead of Ryan Shawcross and nips into the area. Shawcross has a full hand of his shirt and Suarez goes to ground. He has a reputation - but that is a stick-on spot-kick.
-
1945:KICK-OFF- Stoke v Liverpool (1945 GMT)
Game on.
-
1942:
Nottingham Forest striker Simon Cox on Twitter: "So we win 4-2 and the manager gets the sack. Gutted for Sean O'Driscoll, pleasure to work under. Wonder who will walk through the door next."
-
1940:Aston Villa 0-4 Tottenham
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas: "It was a good win and we deserved it. The first half was excellent and Villa came at us in the second half which opened it up for us. It is important for us and puts us on a good run in December.
"Gareth Bale has just returned from injury, he has played very strong and he is improving every day. He is making a difference for the team and being influential."
-
1939:
Is Mark Hughes the man to spend Forest's millions? Ask QPR fans if they agree with that one.
-
1938:Stoke v Liverpool (1945 GMT)
Stoke recall Michael Kightly in place of Ryan Shotton. Charlie Adam is back on the bench following the death of his father but there is still no place for Michael Owen.
Liverpool are unchanged from the side that won convincingly against Fulham.

Benji, Bristol on text: "Bale to Barca with David Villa plus cash going the other way?"
Joe, London on text: "It's all well and good sides being in the market for a Gareth Bale, but it's pointless if there's no Gareth Bale on the market. Keep dreaming everyone."
Bobby in Clapham on text: "Ambition? Premier experience? Gotta be Mark Hughes for Forest!!"

As we approach our fourth kick-off time of the day, how are we holding up? Stoke v Liverpool has got 0-0 written all over it for me. But I'll be absolutely delighted to be proven wrong. Delighted.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers: "Last week we had a clear week - that is the first time we've been able to work right the way through. You saw the reaction of the players to that against Fulham.
"Of course you always want to be better. Apart from the Aston Villa game we've been improving steadily throughout the season. If we keep making progress it'll be an exciting second half of the season."
-
1926:
Former Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin at Villa Park on BBC Radio 5 live:"It is children watching children in the Villa dressing room. "People go on about how many years it's been since Liverpool won the title, but you look at what they have spent and the players they are assembling, and then tell me they aren't a team on the up.
"Our lads have done superbly lately, particularly defensively, and they know they will have to be at 100% to get anything out of Liverpool.
"The same goes for our fans, because without the noise they make we would never be in the position we are."

1919:Aston Villa 0-4 Tottenham
What's the market value of Gareth Bale? That's the office chat here. I'd back Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to get a good price if they decided to sell though. There can't be many sides who are in the market for him.

Mathew Llyr Evans on Twitter: "Gareth Bale's performance has done nothing but inflate his price in the January transfer window. Spain calling?"

1914:FINAL FIVE- Aston Villa 0-4 Tottenham
We are into the last five minutes at Villa Park. Villa have been hammered.
-
1912:GOAL- Aston Villa 0-4 Tottenham - Gareth Bale (84 mins)
Quality, quality goal as Aston Villa are left chasing shadows. Kyle Walker is given time and space on the right, he picks out the rampaging run of substitute Gylfi Sigursson down the right channel. The Icelander squares the ball first time to Gareth Bale, who finds space on the penalty spot again and slams home into the roof of the net. That's his first Premier League hat-trick.
-
1910:Aston Villa 0-3 Tottenham
There are hundreds of Aston Villa fans streaming out of Villa Park, and there have been since that third Spurs goal went in. You can't really blame them. This is about as one-way as Premier League traffic gets.
-
1909:
Former Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin at Villa Park on BBC Radio 5 live:"The Villa centre-backs will be clapping Spurs striker Emmanuel Adebayor off the pitch as he is substituted. He has been selfless today and been a real thorn in their sides."

I've now watched Aston Villa concede 11 goals in the last few days - and they could have shipped about 25 in that time. Worrying times for this young Villa side.

Former Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin at Villa Park on BBC Radio 5 live:"I watched Spurs goalscorer Gareth Bale before the ball went over to Kyle Walker and he drifted slower and slower into a position on the edge of the area and then as soon as Aaron Lennon got the ball he took off at speed and spurted into the penalty box to lose his man.
"The three Spurs goals in the second half begs the question, do you just sit back and barely play like Villa did in the first half or do you try and be positive like they have in the second half and be punished?"

1903:NOTTINGHAM FOREST
Here's a statement from Nottingham Forest after the sacking of manager Sean O'Driscoll.
Chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi said: "We cannot speak highly enough of Sean as a man. He was appointed at an extremely difficult time for the Club and can count himself unlucky to have lost his job with the team just one point away from the top six.
"With the January transfer window approaching, we feel it's the right time to make a change.
"We are looking to bring in an ambitious manager with Premier League experience."
Abdulaziz Al Hasawi, who was at The City Ground for today's game against Leeds, added: "The timing of our decision may look a little odd after the win over Leeds but sometimes you need to make changes with the long term future in mind.
"Sometimes those changes need to be made from a position of strength rather than weakness and that is what we are trying to do."
-
1900:GOAL- Aston Villa 0-3 Tottenham - Gareth Bale (73 mins)
Great goal again as Gareth Bale kills off Aston Villa good and proper. Aaron Lennon is too sprightly for the defence, cutting in from the right before picking out Bale in space inside the area. He takes one touch before firing into the bottom corner.
-
1858:
Former Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin at Villa Park on BBC Radio 5 live:"There was no malice in that tackle from Villa's Fabian Delph on Spurs' Gareth Bale, it was just bad timing. Delph did catch him at some pace, however.
"I think it was a good decision from the referee to give him a booking."

-
1849:GOAL- Aston Villa 0-2 Tottenham - Gareth Bale (61 mins)
A catalogue of errors - but take your hats off for a fabulous solo finish from Gareth Bale. Aston Villa actually begin with a smart attack, Christian Benteke drives into the area but his cut back is poor and it is hoofed clear. There are more than enough Villa defenders back though but one takes a bad touch, and then Joe Bennett's tackle on Aaron Lennon sends the ball into Bale's path. His first touch is magnificent though, flicking it past the last defender, and he then dances around Brad Guzan with ease before slotting into the net.
-
1848:
Former Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin at Villa Park on BBC Radio 5 live:"Spurs have been patient here and have raised their game in the last few minutes after Villa's much improved second half performance.
"Jermain Defoe held his run and poked the ball between Brad Guzan's legs. That is what Defoe does; he just puts the ball into the back of the net.
"He is an international class finisher and a world class footballer."

-
1845:GOAL- Aston Villa 0-1 Tottenham - Jermain Defoe (57 mins)
Lovely pass leads to a lovely goal. Gareth Bale starts the move by taking on defenders in a mazy run, he has to check out and go back into midfield where Kyle Naughton slides in a gem of a ball to Jermain Defoe. A peach of a pass, Defoe is onside and as Brad Guzan comes out, Defoe flicks the ball through his legs with the outside of his boot. Classy finish.
-
1845:
Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert looks frustrated on the sidelines but his team are heading for a vast improvement on their 8-0 defeat to Chelsea last time out. By the way, it was no surprise that the match was goalless at the break. Tottenham's previous four league matches have been goalless at half-time, according to infostrada.

1843:GREAT SAVE!- Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham
He's offside again, Christian Benteke, as he latches on to a fine cross from Stephen Ireland. The flag is up but Hugo Lloris was not to know that as he makes a stunning diving save to deny the Belgian. Lloris is 26 today by the way. Happy birthday Hugo.
-
1841:Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham
Spurs have gone a bit flat. Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andros Townsend are their two most attacking players on the bench should Andre Villas-Boas want to freshen it up a bit. Christian Benteke is then flagged offside as he chases on to a through ball. That man loves an offside flag. He's like Pippo Inzaghi.

-
1838:Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham
This is much more open now. Jermain Defoe almost gets in behind the Villa defence but can't quite get the ball under control, and Christian Benteke then does the same at the other end. There's much more attacking intent from Villa since the break. And Spurs haven't had a single corner.
-
1834:Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham

1825:Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham
Aston Villa have lost just one of their last seven Premier League home matches that were 0-0 at half time. Food for thought for Paul Lambert but it would take a big turnaround in shape and setup for Villa to score here. Spurs just need to keep plugging away.

Spurs had 15 corners in that first half alone. Just six more lads! Come on!
-
1818:
Former Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin at Villa Park on BBC Radio 5 live:"The only positive for Aston Villa in the first half is that they have not conceded. They have given the ball away so cheaply against Spurs, but somehow, they are yet to be punished."

1815:SUBSTITUTION- Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham
An injury to Villa defender Nathan Baker forces the home side into a change. Stephen Ireland is on in his place which may force a bit of a rethink for Paul Lambert's men. We are into added time at the end of the first half.

Ditchers in Birmingham on text via 81111: "Penny for the thoughts of the much maligned Steve Kean. Blackburn in freefall since he left as manager."
Blackburn lost 1-0 at Middlesbrough this afternoon.

1809:GREAT SAVE!- Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham
The good news for Aston Villa fans is that they aren't 8-0 down in this game, so it's better than Sunday. The bad news is that they are not doing a lot more. Brad Guzan is in action again to push out a dipping shot from Gareth Bale.
-
1805:Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham
This is better from Villa as they create a decent move. Matt Lowton is the spare man on the overlap down the right but he overcooks his low cross lightly and Brett Holman can only turn the ball over on the stretch. Another corner for Spurs now. I think that's 14 in the first 35 minutes...
-
1805:
Former Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin at Villa Park on BBC Radio 5 live:"The main difference for me in this game so far is that the Spurs players are all being very brave and demanding the ball while the Villa players are not showing that attitude.
"Spurs' central midfielders Mousa Dembele and Sandro are being given all the time in the world to get forward with the ball right to the edge of the Villa penalty area.
"Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan is playing really well and has made a few great saves. His team-mates must start getting on the front foot, which they have done better in the last few minutes."

1803:Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham
Brilliant play again from Gareth Bale as he gets away from his man and cuts the ball back to find Emmanuel Adebayor. Adebayor thrashes in a shot but it hits Nathan Baker on the chest. Fine defending.
-
1802:Reading 0-0 Swansea
Swansea manager Michael Laudrup: "What was very important for me was the reaction and performance from the team after the Manchester United match. Everyone talks about that game and you can only do well, but three days later you play the bottom team in an away game. I was pleased with what I saw.
"I talked to the doctor and physio after the game and they said that Michu's ligaments should be ok. That's the most important thing. We'll see how many days he'll have to rest.
"Having 25 points after 19 games is absolutely fantastic. I thought we would have less at this stage. A lot of games we were starting with four or five, even six, new players in the first XI. And a new manager. To reach the first half of the season with 25 points is really great. But we can't stop. From now to the beginning of February we have so many games. The next stage to reflect is when we reach 40 points, then we'll see from there."

1759:Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham
Villa create a minor chance as Brett Holman flashes a cross across the face of goal but there's nobody there to get on the end of it. This is slightly better for the home side though. They have at least stemmed that incessant tide of Tottenham attacks.
-
1758:QPR 1-2 West Brom
West Brom manager Steve Clarke on his side's controversial second goal: "Marc-Antoine Fortune didn't do a lot wrong. He stood his ground and Rob [Green] didn't get round him."
On the penalty call: "When you're down the bottom you're going to shout for every decision and they are right to shout for them. But the referee can't give it. It has hit Liam [Ridgewell's] arm from about one yard away.
"I don't want to talk about controversial decisions. I want to talk about having 33 points after 19 games. Up until they scored we had complete control and people should give us respect. There was a gulf between the teams. We passed the ball well, created some half chances, while they looked like a team at the bottom of the table."

1758:
Sunderland defender Titus Bramble after the 1-0 victory against Manchester City on Twitter: "There's no better feeling in football then winning games. Great result and fantastic support. Six points from the last two games."

1754:QPR 1-2 West Brom
QPR manager Harry Redknapp: "We had two terrible decisions that have cost us dearly."
On West Brom's second goal: "It was a foul, the fella's (Marc Antoine-Fortune) backing him (Robert Green) into the goal. He's got no intention of playing the ball. He couldn't get a punch on the ball. It's a blatant foul. And at the end it's a blatant penalty. Ridgewell's got his hands up. They are scandalous decisions. I can't do nothing about it. It's just poor refereeing. I had him (referee Chris Foy) at Stoke last year when I was Tottenham manager and he let three penalties go so what's the point in talking to him?
"I can't do anything about it. It's just poor refereeing. We battered them in the last 20 minutes, we just couldn't get the equaliser."
-
1754:
Everton captain Phil Neville after his side beat Wigan on his 500th Premier League appearance on Twitter: "Great result, didn't flow in our play but it was never going to be like that today. Chelsea next Sunday, feet up now!!!
"Thanks for all your kind messages today. I'm so happy to be back playing with the lads getting fitter by the game!"
-
1752:CLOSE!- Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham
Villa enter enemy territory for the first time of the afternoon - and it almost costs them. Ashley Westwood gives the ball away, Spurs counter and Chris Herd ends up hooking a cross just wide of his own post.
Moments later Jermain Defoe is played in and Brad Guzan has to save his shot at the near post. This is relentless from Spurs. They have to score soon.

Spurs win their sixth corner inside 15 minutes. Again Villa get it away but this is getting ridiculous now. Christian Benteke is having a very lonely day up front for Villa.
-
1743:
Former Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin at Villa Park on BBC Radio 5 live:"As a former professional, this Aston Villa v Spurs game is like watching the forwards against defence training drill. It is men against boys so far, and Villa have not gotten into this game at all.

Brilliant from Brad Guzan! Gareth Bale pings a shot toward the top corner from 25 yards, it is flying in until the American arches his back and just gets a tip onto the ball.

1732:Aston Villa 0-0 Tottenham
It's all Spurs in the opening minutes, with Andre Villas-Boas's side looking pretty fluid in possession.

1732:Reading 0-0 Swansea
Reading boss Brian McDermott: "It is progress. We've been having 7-5, 4-3, 3-3 and 2-2 games here so to get a clean sheet is very important. Adam had a goal disallowed for handball - they generally give those here so I was a little disappointed we didn't get that.
"We move on and we're looking forward to the next game against West Ham. In the Championship we tried to win every single game because we were trying to entertain our fans.
"Psychologically, it's a lift for us. We're off the bottom. They talk about the past, but this is doable for us - we believe it's doable, I believe it's doable. We're going to relish the challenge."

"December is always a big month. We dropped two points at Swansea but me made up for it today. It was a real championship performance. Rooney has done a ligament at the back of his knee and he will be out for two or three weeks. We are running out of ammunition."

Rickie Lambert steps up and hammers it in. Mark Schwarzer gets a hand to it but the pure pace takes it in. You don't save those.
-
1641:PENALTY TO SOUTHAMPTON- Fulham 1-0 Southampton
A corner from the right is handled by Chris Baird under pressure from Rickie Lambert. Big penalty for the Saints.
-
1639:GOAL- Everton 2-1 Wigan - Arouna Kone (82 mins)
The scrappiest goal you'll see this side of Sunday League. A long ball is afforded the cardinal sin of being allowed to bounce, it strikes several players on the way down, including possibly an arm, but Arouna Kone doesn't care as he toe-pokes in from close range.

1634:FOOTBALL LEAGUE UPDATE
In League Two, Port Vale will close the gap on leaders Gillingham if they maintain the lead that Louis Dodds' gave them after 56 minutes against Rotherham. -
1633:FOOTBALL LEAGUE UPDATE
In League One, Dave Kitson's header has put leaders Sheffield United 2-0 up against Scunthorpe United, while second-placed Tranmere have gone 2-1 against Crewe having trailed earlier on. Brentford, a place behind Tranmere, are still 2-1 ahead against Colchester. Walsall led MK Dons 3-2 at half-time but there have no more goals so far since the break.
-
1632:SUBSTITUTION- Sunderland 1-0 Man City
Manchester City are starting to apply some pressure on Sunderland, and Sergio Aguero should do better when he is played through by Carlos Tevez but his shot is turned wide by Simon Mignolet. The Sunderland keeper has earned his wages today. That proves to be Tevez's final act, as he is replaced by City's super-sub Edin Dzeko.
James Milner then whips a free-kick over the top.

1629:DISALLOWED GOAL FOR READING
Full marks to Adam Le Fondre for effort. Ian Harte whips in a free-kick, Le Fondre punches the ball in Maradona-style, and then runs off like he's scored the winner in the FA Cup final. The referee is alive though and chalks it off.
-
1629:GOAL- Man Utd 3-3 Newcastle - Robin van Persie (71 mins)

It's all out defence now for Sunderland as they just invite pressure. Manchester City build a patient attack into the area and Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, James Milner and Pablo Zabaleta all have shots blocked. Danny Rose has been superb for Sunderland and makes the key intervention.
-
1623:Norwich 0-1 Chelsea

1618:GOAL- QPR 0-2 West Brom - Robert Green OG (49 mins)
Get the circus music out - a comedy of errors sees West Brom go 2-0 up. A corner from the right is headed miles into the sky by Anton Ferdinand, Robert Green is impeded by Marc-Antoine Fortune as he tries to tip it over and he ends up just flapping it into his own net. Again, that looks a dubious decision. Fouls are normally given for less.

1617:Reading 0-0 Swansea
Play is really starting to open up at the Madejski and it would be no surprise if a goal arrived soon. We've seen plenty of meaty challenges and dangerous counter-attacks, but the lack of a final ball is costing both Reading and Swansea. The hosts need the points far more than their opponents, yet if anything it is Swansea who look likeliest to open the scoring.
-
1617:GOAL- Man Utd 2-2 Newcastle - Patrice Evra (58 mins)
This man cannot stop scoring! Patrice Evra puts Manchester United level. James Perch heads a free-kick out to the edge of the box, Evra takes a touch and drives a low shot skidding into the corner. Tim Krul could have done better with that.
-
1616:PENALTY APPEAL- Everton 1-0 Wigan

1611:GOAL- Sunderland 1-0 Man City - Adam Johnson (53 mins)
It had to be you. Adam Johnson scores against his old club, and his old mate Joe Hart won't like seeing this one again. Johnson cuts in from his station on the right, catches his shot cleanly enough but Hart should keep it out. Instead it spins off his gloves and into the net.
-
1609:GOAL- Everton 1-0 Wigan - Leon Osman (52 mins)
Massive, massive deflection helps Everton ahead. They would have had a penalty though as Leon Osman's shot hits Gary Caldwell on the arm before nestling in the opposite corner. Everton have the breakthrough.
-

Chelsea almost sneak a second in at the near post, but Juan Mata's corner is helped on and Mark Bunn just about scrambles it clear. Chelsea are looking comfortable.
