Eddie Howe's AFC Bournemouth stretched their unbeaten run to 12 matches with victory at lowly Scunthorpe United.

Top scorer Lewis Grabban fired in from an angle to put the Cherries in front.

The hosts missed a golden chance to equalise when Steven Cook handled in the box, only for David James to keep out Mike Grella's penalty.

Steve Mildenhall's clearance rebounded in off Wes Fogden for a bizarre second, and despite Karl Hawley's successful spot-kick, the Cherries held on.

Scunthorpe United manager Brian Laws told BBC Radio Humberside:

"The reaction (to going 2-0 down) was what I was looking for as it's been the reaction which has been our Achilles heel.

"We didn't give in, we've stood tall and in the second half we've had a right go. That's something we have wanted to see visually from everybody.

"We'll always look (at the penalty miss) as it was a defining moment in the game."

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told BBC Radio Solent:

"We got the two goal lead which we'd love to have made three and killed the game but we didn't.

I thought we were seeing the game out in a comfortable manner and there were a couple of decisions in there that I really found baffling, the two penalties, but we did well to see the game out in the end. To come away having two penalties given against us that weren't, it's great to get three points.

"We want to be coming to every ground in League One believing we're going to win. You need that belief to be successful and hopefully we're developing it."
