Ross County and St Mirren edged further clear of Scottish Premier League bottom club Dundee with a point apiece at Victoria Park.

A bullet header from County's Sam Morrow hit Craig Samson's bar in a first half which saw John McGinn and Jim Goodwin go close for St Mirren.

The Buddies dominated the second half and were unlucky not to claim victory.

Sam Parkin struck the post and McGinn had an effort cleared off the line by Scott Boyd.

County, who sit 10th, are now six points clear of Dundee, with the Buddies five points ahead of the Dens Park side, who have a game in hand.

Though the match in Dingwall was entertaining, there was to be no repeat of the nine-goal thriller between the two sides at St Mirren Park earlier this season, which the Paisley side won 5-4.

After kick-off had been delayed by five minutes due to a floodlight problem, County made a bright start.

Iain Vigurs' shot was blocked in front of goal after he had played a one-two with Rocco Quinn.

Richard Brittain's cross picked out the head of Morrow in the 16th minute and the youngster crashed an effort against the crossbar.

The visitors came into the game and Jim Goodwin's drive just cleared Mark Brown's bar.

Vigurs' whipped free-kick flew just wide as the hosts finished the half strongly.

Colin McMenamin and Marc Fitzpatrick replaced Morrow and Grant Munro at the break and St Mirren also made a change with Steven Thompson making way for Sam Parkin.

And Parkin almost broke the deadlock when his rebound shot following a Brown save cannoned off the keeper's right-hand post.

McMenamin's glancing went wide as County sought to score against the run of play.

Boyd, making his 200th appearance for County, was in the right place at the right time to clear after McGinn had made contact with a Parkin knock down 13 minutes from the end.

And neither side could find a winner in the closing stages.
