Tom Hopper's neat finish helped Bury to only their second away win of the season with victory over Scunthorpe.

Shakers captain Steve Schumacher gave the visitors the lead with a free-kick which deflected in off the wall.

Leon Clarke equalised for Brian Laws's men when he broke free and scored with a measured left-foot finish.

But Scunthorpe were only on level terms for a minute before Troy Hewitt delightfully played through Hopper, who made no mistake from close range.

Scunthorpe United manager Brian Laws told BBC Radio Humberside:

"I thought the first 20 minutes probably dictated the game. Bury did to us what we've been doing to other teams - getting close to people, closing people down quickly and not letting them have an opportunity to play.

"First rule that any manager will tell you is that you're must vulnerable when you've scored. You've got to make sure that everybody is pulling in the right direction and defending as a team.

"The team as a whole didn't defend as a team and that's disappointing. We know that whilst you take one good stride forward there's two paces back.

"We've also got to believe that what we've done in the past is there for us to rediscover."

Bury manager Kevin Blackwell told BBC Radio Manchester:

"I'm very pleased with that because it was a very good away performance.

"Someone said it looked as though we were the home team and I think that's a compliment to the players.

"We feel disappointed when we don't get results on the board. This is arguably the best run that the club's had for two years so we want to keep breaking records and moving forward."
