York and AFC Wimbledon need a replay to settle their FA Cup first round tie after a draw at Bootham Crescent.
Danny Kearns hit the bar for the hosts, while Dons striker Jack Midson forced Michael Ingham into a smart save during a goalless first period.
Sub Jamie Reed put the Minstermen in front, finishing well after a strong run from strike partner Jason Walker.
But Charlie Strutton's deflected free-kick means the two sides will meet again for a place in round two.
They are also scheduled to face each other in a League Two fixture on 10 November.

York City manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio York:
"If you don't take your chances, you don't get the results that you maybe deserve or should have got. We created numerous chances today and we haven't stuck them away.
"You could tell from the very first minute that they'd come to put four or five [in defence] and leave nobody up front. You have to be patient.
"We're disappointed not to win, we're disappointed we're not definitely through but I thought the performance was good again.
"We're still in there, so while we're still in there, we're smiling."
