Ashley Williams extends Swansea contract until 2015
Wales and Swansea City captain Ashley Williams has signed a new contract tying him to the Swans until 2015.
The Swansea skipper, named Wales captain earlier this month, signed a three-year deal in August 2011 and his form has earned him an improved deal.
Williams had been linked with a possible move to Premier League rivals Liverpool to follow former boss Brendan Rodgers and Wales team-mate Joe Allen.
"I'm delighted to get it signed," said Williams.
The 28-year-old centre-back follows goalkeeper Michel Vorm in signing a new long-term deal at the Liberty Stadium.

ales left-back Neil Taylor has admitted he is also set to sign a new Swansea contract as manager Michael Laudrup hopes to tie down his key players.
Williams, who initially joined Swansea on loan from Stockport in March 2008 before the deal was made permanent, has played a crucial role in guiding the Swans out of the Championship and into the Premier League.
"I remember signing on loan for the club on the last minute of deadline day back in 2008," recalled Williams.
"I arrived at the stadium late, signed the contract on the bonnet of my car and the club secretary had to run up the stairs to fax it off.
"I would never have believed it would turn out this way for me or the club.
"To captain my club, country and play week in week out in the Premier League is what dreams are made of.
"I've enjoyed every year I've been here. It's always been different, normally with a change of manager, but what has stayed the same is the closeness of the squad.
"One of the best things about playing here is the players. They are a great bunch and I look forward to going into training every day."
Williams broke the Swansea record of most consecutive appearances by an outfield player when he played 169 games in a row.

Great to see Cardiff fans on here... it must feel like a kick in the stomach every Saturday...waiting till gone midnight to watch their team on Footie League Show with such names as Steve Claridge.
And, having to see Swansea earlier on in the evening playing in the Prem League
Bless em... maybe we can get a grant for them...some kind of community project to alleviate their depression

#17 - I don't think it's jealousy; there can't be fans at any club who would want a liability in defence to sign a contract extension. Fair play to you all for showing loyalty but I think you're kidding yourselves. Cardiff knew Darren Purse was a liability and were happy to admit it and get rid.

Wow. So many bitter Cardiff fans here commenting on a Swansea article, shouldn't they be worrying about their own team who have consistently been embarrassed in the Play Off's, massively outshone by their better rivals Swansea and judging by the last set of games... Swansea with Ashley in defence look safe in the Premier League while Cardiff look as far away from it as they have in a decade.

He's been poor this season but that doesn't make him a bad player. He was one of the best CBs in the League last season. Everyone goes through patches and he's been playing through an injury because we're so short at the back - and it shows.
Comments from the green-eyed Malaysian lot up the M4 are risible. Better hope you make it this season as the Financial Fair Play rules may be problematic. :)
