Asa Hall stepped off the bench to provide the goals for a Shrewsbury comeback against in-form Colchester.
The U's, searching for a fourth win in five games, took a 2-0 lead through strikes from Arsenal loan pair Craig Eastmond and Sanchez Watt.
Eastmond struck from 20 yards while Watt burst away from the halfway line before rifling into the top corner.
But substitute Hall scored two headers in quick succession, both from Jon Taylor corners, to rescue a draw.
The point was enough to keep the Shrews out of the League One relegation zone, with Coventry level on points but below them on goal difference.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire:
"Overall we had a great opportunity to win the game and we showed great character today.
"The fightback has given us belief now and we have to be pleased with a point."
Colchester United manager Joe Dunne told BBC Essex:
"It could have been worse. I felt they should have had a penalty at the end and they've missed a couple of chances to make it 3-2.
"Going from 2-0 in control, where previously we've been dominating and seeing out games, we bought it upon ourselves with two set plays where nobody was marking.
"It was all going to plan but we started to defend too deep, which is the old habit. We started to play in the wrong areas, which brought on the pressure.
"It was a matter of time before they reaped their rewards and in the end they fully deserved their point."
