Joe Martin scored the pick of the goals as Gillingham ended Burton Albion's eight-game unbeaten run with a rout.

Tom Flanagan opened the scoring when he found the top corner from the edge of the area before fellow defender Matt Fish made it two from outside the box.

Burton got one back when Zander Diamond struck from close in but Gills restored their two-goal lead five minutes later through a Myles Weston solo effort.

Martin rounded off the scoring with a thumping half-volley from long range.

Gillingham boss Martin Allen told BBC Radio Kent:

"Fantastic, didn't we play well? It was a magical afternoon, great entertainment. I was very proud.

"They're a really good team, I don't know if it (the performance) is the best of the season.

"The players are very bright, they're hungry and they're a pleasure to work with, and for Gillingham supporters, you have got a fantastic group of players."

Burton Albion manager Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Derby:

"They're by far the best team we've played against this season. If I had to tip now, I'd say they will probably win the league comfortably.

"They gave us a really good lesson. I think it's really important that we learn from that as a group of players.

"They ran in behind our back four and that's always hard to defend against, but we didn't do our job properly today. That was the reason why we made the job so hard for ourselves in the end."
