Rotherham United climbed to within a point of the League Two play-off zone as they inflicted a seventh straight defeat on struggling Aldershot.

On-loan debutant Lee Frecklington put the Millers ahead on 34 minutes when he pounced on a weak clearance to fire into the top corner from 20 yards.

Bob Harris then bent home a 25-yard free-kick on 56 minutes after Troy Brown had brought down Frecklington.

Alex Revell's tap-in sealed it after Lionel Ainsworth's shot was blocked.

Shots top scorer Craig Reid finally registered the hosts' first shot on target after 83 minutes - to ironic cheers.

The home side stay second from bottom of the Football League, now three points adrift of safety.

Aldershot Town manager Dean Holdsworth told BBC Surrey:

"I thought we were causing them problems but the first goal was a real blow for us and we faced a very direct team today.

"We've had some harsh words in the dressing room today. I've questioned their ability, their character and I've questioned if they're going to stand toe-to-toe with each other because we can't have shrinking violets in the team at the moment.

"I need everybody to show me their worth and courage and that isn't just the players."

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans tells BBC Radio Sheffield:

"It was bold making the changes we made, if I could have made more I would have done.

"Me and my chairman hurt last Saturday night (after losing to Southend) and I know the fans were hurting because they've seen a Rotherham United team which is my responsibility lack effort.

"I swore to myself all week that the changes would be emphatic and I swore to myself I'd be brave.

"I just asked the boys before the game and in training all week to work with the intensity that we expect."
